"Stress cards for Marine boot camp" yup it's what you think.
PFC Marine | today | myself

Posted on 12/27/2005 10:04:14 AM PST by njpa

Men. I can not confirm this with any searching/Googling yet but: It seams that the new recruits of Paris Island (Marine boot camp), will be issued a "sress card" to be used when a drill instructor stresses them out enough. All they need to do is pull out the card and wave it in the instructors face and the instructor needs to back off. Also, the thing called the crusible (hell week)is no more. I know this because I just needed to send back a PFC new Marine on Christmass day. We droped him off at Philly air port to finish the second leg of his training in NC. On the trip down to the air port Mat was telling myself and his mother that he was one of the last of the "REAL" Marines. Word spread via grape vine/his pears about the new, as he says "sisified" batch of Marines. He also, contributes this to an orginization called "Marine moms". I may be wrong in the exact name of the group, I was so hot headed about this. But, it's that or something like that. I needed to quite down in my rantings with it being Christmass day and his mother was upset enough- sending off her son for a 5:55PM flight. I went to his graduation at Paris Island and it was moving and impressive. As I choked back tears at the serimony I was thinking that atleast they haven't infiltrated(to the point that it will make them inefective) the Marines. I seem to be wrong.

Don't know what our Country is becoming.

Even if it is true, which I highly doubt, just wait until the card users get into the Fleet Force. Justice is very different out there.

Have you noticed that there is a spellcheck feature. Good grief. How old are you?

C'mon. Some news is way too important to be delayed by spellchecking! </extremeSarcasm>

I hated army basic training. I hated the drill instructors, the stress, the physical demands, and the nit picky stuff they made us do. Then I got to Vietnam and was grateful as can be for what I went through in basic.

Oh, I have no doubt about it, ken. It is DU spelling and grammer through and through.

There was something called a 'blues' card for gals in the army. If they were not feeling up to par they could pull out the 'blues' card and skip PT.

Gosh, there. I did a Google search for "stress card." Guess what? The Snopes page debunking this was the third hit on the first page.

I guess you didn't spell it right, so Google didn't find that for ya....

More care, please, in posting. There's so much information on Free Republic that it's already hard to get to it all. Misinformation caused by not bothering to search makes it all the harder.

Yes it's true. A woman with whom I worked said her daughter was in boot camp they had stress cards. They also allow Marines to dress in PT outfits prior to PT instead of BDUs. Now, I like underarmour, but I doubt they make a combat line.

It didn't take long for your story to be thoroughly discredited. FR can be a brutal place to spread a false tale.

A way of signaling time out.

Time out?? Who the heck comes up with these ideas? They do 'time out' with kids now too. I remember what we got and it was not time out!

Whoever wrote that final explanation "The Ice Cream Soldier" gave a great explanation as to why this legend endures.

In a related story: The military gives you two little 'metal' tags to wear around your neck. If you get killed, one stays with you and the other get processed.

The goal is to let the other guy die for his country instead of you for yours.

It's true. There are other changes not mentioned in the article.
Martha Stewart has been hired as a design consultant. She will give the barracks a design makeover to impart a homey, stress relieving atmosphere.
New Marines will also be able to bake cookies in the newly added barracks kitchen when done with a hard day of drilling.

In my time (Ronald Reagan's Army) the ones that needed a time out were sent to the "Jerry's Kids" platoon as washouts. The Jerry's Kids Platoons were the injured, the sick, the whiners and the quiters.
