CRS memo to Rep. Jim Gibbons re: machine gun database
Office of Jim Gibbons public release ^ | Nov. 28, 2005 | Congressional Research Staff

Posted on 12/30/2005 5:21:52 AM PST by BCR #226

A while back, Rep. Jim Gibbons requested the Congressional Research Staff to put together a memo concerning the NFRTR (NFA database) and reported abuses, missing information, etc.

The CRS compiled the memo and Jim Gibbons has released it. Here is a link to the PDF file. http://www.nfaoa.org/documents/CRSmemoNFRTR0001.pdf

This document shows coverups, deliberate illegal changes to the NFRTR database and brings to light the questionable practices of the BATF. Due to the nature of the abuses and the consequenses of the actions of the BATF, I feel that this document shows grounds for a repeal of the 1986 machine gun ban as well as the 1934 NFA.

I encourage all of you to read the document in depth and if you agree, contact your Congressional Representatives and Senators and urge them to support repeal of the above two laws.

This document is quite concerning and I believe that every NFA related conviction is in question now and should be reheard in the court of law.

Mike

LOL... yeah, I've read that several times. When you read the link I provided, you'll see that the CRS has generously provided more information on the Busey situation... and proof that it was not "misspoken" as the internal investigation at the time explained it away as.

This thread has just added to the FreeRepublic "bang list" (firearms interest list) by adding the keyword "banglist".

Any time a firearms-related thread is created on FreeRepublic, please be sure to add the "banglist" keyword to it so that interested FReepers don't miss it.

more to the point: does this document provide fodder for the repeal/dissolution of the BATFE itself?

Would you post some of the important information as the dial-up crowd may not be able to download the 20.06 MB file.

Thanks,

One would hope. One would also hope that everyone currently employed by BATF would simply stop breathing. It's not like anyone would notice.

sooner or later the stench would draw flies, and then someone would notice.

we are being too harsh - surely there are some employed in that bureau who are worthy servants of the public trust.

I think you just did. Dial up download time, about an hour.

Heck it took me nearly a minute! ;)

Off to read....

"does this document provide fodder for the repeal/dissolution of the BATFE itself?"

I'm afraid that the ATF is far too useful a tool in the gradual militarization of our police forces from the federal level on down to let that happen.

Business as usual, unless we get really lucky.

I'm on dialup as well... If one of you guys that has a faster connection wants to post the text, please do.

One other thing, the OIG is currently putting together an audit of the NFRTR... this is a line by line audit that will bring out every single error in the estimated 2.4 million registrations in the system.

The BATF can no longer hide behind their little curtain. The wizard is about to be exposed.

There is no truth to the rumor that the BATFE SWAT team has pop-up targets mounted on beds at their target range.

They're actually in the building entry team live fire facility, and called 'Posturpedic Poppers'.

Perhaps, but I doubt it. The problems with this out of control agency are widely known. Anyone decent wouldn't want to be affiliated with them.

The first rule of a bureaucrat is "Never disturb a body at rest."
The second, "If I don't do anything, I can't do anything wrong."
The third, "When in doubt, mumble."
