Well, they faced Ohio State with Holmes and Ginn and held Ginn to seven receiving yards. But, don't forget that Southern Cal hasn't exactly been facing good degenses all year.

So we're going on margin now? How does an average differance of 36.34 points sound? Face it, USC has a good offense. According to points per game, Texas has a better one. Texas also has a defense. USC doesn't. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the real story won't be how much of a shootout the game was. It'll be when SC finally scores their first points.

I've yet to see ESPN compare the head coaches of the teams. Both real strong teams, Bush has shown up in EVERY big game, Young is an amazing runner, and a safe passer.

But nobody can say that Brown is a better game coach than Carroll. Could be the difference.

Ohio State is not the offensive force the Fiesta Bowl implied. And Ohio State hadn't really found itself as a team at the point in the season when they faced Texas. Troy Smith is a good QB but he turned in the game of his life in the Fiesta Bowl. Not that I'm complaining.

I'd be willing to guess that's within the first 7 minutes of the game.

Let's check back and see.

I couldn't tell you what the actual line was, but I know OSU covered the points spread....

whether they hit the over on the over/under, I don't know but I kinda doubt it

The Austin media ran a story about that photo session (in front of the Rose Bowl). Apparently, a California highway patrolman that had been assigned to escort the team had an accident and broke a leg and an arm and the team invited him to sit for a few of the photos.

nah.

The game of Troy Smith's life was against Michigan 2 years ago, followed by Michigan this year, and then the Fiesta Bowl.

If anything it was his 3rd best performance as a QB.

1923 - USC 14 Penn State 3 Southern California (8-1) defeats Penn State (6-3-1) in the first New Years's Day game in the Rose Bowl, 14-3, played before 52,000 spectators. Trojan coach "Gloomy Gus" Henderson and Nittany Lion coach Hugo Bezdek engage in pre-game near fisticuffs because the easterners arrive late at the stadium. Roy "Bullet" Baker (107 yards), Gordon Campbell (76 yards) and Howard "Hobo" Kincaid (60 yards) are big Trojan guns as Harold Galloway makes a key flying catch to set up the clinching touchdown. Mike Palm and "Light Horse" Harry Wilson lead way to only Nittany score, a 20-yard drop kick by Palm.

57,000 seats, $272,200

1925 - Notre Dame 27 Stanford 10 In the Four Horsemen's last ride, Notre Dame (9-0) impresses the football world in its only Rose Bowl appearance by out-maneuvering Stanford (7-0-1) in a 27-10 thriller played before a sellout 53,000. It's Knute Rockne vs. Glenn Scobie "Pop" Warner and horsemen Elmer Layden, Jim Crowley, Harry Stuhldreher, Don Miller vs. Ernie Nevers. Layden scores three touchdowns, the last two on runs of 78 and 70 with interceptions of Nevers passes intended for the great end Ted Shipkey. Nevers, playing with injured ankles, carries 34 times for 117 yards, but is stopped inches short in a disputed goal line call by referee Ed Thorp as Stanford attempts a late rally.
