Why are the Democrats running things?

Needed to be repeated.

Besides the fact that they are obstructionist Democrats, can anyone explain why they are bothering to do this?

What do they see as the strategic advantage in delaying the hearings for a week, other than just doing it because they can?

This is exactly what I predicted. Specter delayed it by two months, and regretably Bush let it slide. He was in South America and in distraction mode.

Now the Democrats will continue to delay it as long as they can. A week here, another week there, a request for documents, a call for another witness, and pretty soon Bush's term is up.

The 'party' of no ideas, no values and has a member who is a former KKK leader have only one option... delay, stall and delay more.

Only a 'stuck-on-stupid' person would belong to the democRAT club.

When you're fresh out of ideas, I guess delay and obstruction are all that's left.

Delaying the inevitable.

The SCOTUS will not be the same after Alito is confirmed. The O'Connor era is over.

I disagree with President Bush in several issues, but I'm very glad I voted for his re-election. I've been waiting for this day for a long time.

I know the shift will be gradual, but the SCOTUS is moving in the right direction.

President Bush needs to do another recess appointment!

No, the Senate just needs to buckle down and get this done in the proper way-- this is a lifetime appointment.

I don't think there's any advantage at all, unless the Dems want to cook up some more Mary Mapes' type of work against Alito. In a week's time they could forge all sorts of documents.

Agree.... and the proper way is to follow the Rules set out for the Committee which includes the ablility of either side of the aisle to ask for be granted a one week delay in an upcoming committee vote. It has been done in the past and until the rule is changed it will most likely be done in the future.

This one week delay in the vote isn't going to change anything. Instead of Jan. 17 the committee vote will be held one week later.... This is a lifetime appointment and one weeks isn't going to make or break it.

It probably upsets the dimbulbs that Alito got a higher ABA rating that the person he is replacing ever got.

So why are they doing it then?

He called her a "mainstream conservative", I believe.

I love it when some godless Bolshevik tells me what a real conservative should be.

Democrats will invoke their right to hold the Alito committee vote over for one week.....

What right? This is insane. If this is in the rule book, well then fine but, I would not be surprised to find out that it is not. The Seanate leadership bends over so far to get along with the RATS that they can see what's happening to them. I also think they dont care either.
