Headline from the future (it's just humor).

October, 6th - 2007

Culpepper, VA (AP) Marcus Vick through a 17-yard touchdown pass to Perdogg, 41, with only 5 seconds to go as the "mean machine" defeated a group of prison guards 28-27, in a charity game prison football game shown on ESPN-2.

Ironically, Perdogg was sentance to 2 1/2 years in the January for beating up a man in a Manassas Va in bar, in an arguement after Washington upset Dallas, 35-23, in the divisional playoffs that stopped Dallas' 17-game winning streak.

maybe.

Everyone knew Clarett was not going in the 1st day, and then Shanahan had a senior moment and picked him.

I will tell you this though. Clarett never gave any indication that he had the moxie to pull something off like a robbery. Having lived in Columbus, you learn certain things. He is a follower, not a leader by any stretch of the imagination.

Vick is completely different in that regard. He has done some things and supposedly, as a QB, he was a leader on VT.

Wow. That Croatiawhatever dude got nuked when I was replying to him. Anyway, this is what I said:

It's his right to declare for the NFL draft, if he so desires. He should know that if he declares and goes undrafted, he loses all eligibility to return to playing in college.

Having said that, where do you get the right to question his, or anyone else's desires? It's up to the NFL teams if one of them wishes to draft him, even if he is a nitwit.

Vick won't have things handed to him, ala a big ass contract, like Leaf did. He will have to earn his spot to even be put on the team, much less the field.

For those not familiar with the disaster.

QB Ryan Leaf was drafted by San Diego.
Leaf was the second pick overall in the 1998 draft and got the richest contract in club history, including an $11.25 million signing bonus. But his rookie season was a disaster on and off the field. He was benched halfway through the season because of poor play on the field and boorish behavior off it.

yep.

Vick will probably not get anything big on the signing bonus and, depending on where he's finally selected (and he will be selected) might just make the league minimum....

And"serving alcohol to underage girls" and "possesion of marijuana"?
Forty years ago,I would have been kicked off any team I was on if that was the criteria.

The bigger story to me, an avid college football fan, is the descent of the Virginia Tech program into thugdom. It's been apparent to close observers for the last 3 or 4 years, but this incident, and the team's behavior in that bowl game, have really brought it into the spotlight.

It's equally interesting to me that it appears as if the university president and AD are the ones taking action now, as if Beamer is reluctant.

I sure hope this kid gets it together and grows up to be a respectable person. He has plenty of athletic talent.

I am a Louisville fan and thought that it was crude and stupid move. Emotions were high but this was too much. Thanks to AFN for another great event!

I guess they took the attitude that if you can't beat'em join'em. So who is it going to be the Canes, the CrimiNoles, or Ghettothugs from Blacksburg?

Ha!

Are you talking about Rt 27/Raritan Ave? I live in Highland Park - want to make sure there's not another speed trap I'm not aware of!

nah.

They have too much invested in Pennington right now.

They need defensive help and a heir-apparent for Curtis Martin
