The Patriots Guild-What do you love about freedom?
anyone who shows up...

Posted on 01/08/2006 7:04:46 PM PST by Diva Betsy Ross

Patriots Guild

No one knows what the outcome of World War II would have been if more than 18 million women hadn't worked in home-front defense industries to free men for overseas battlefields and to keep the nation running, and no one can say what would happen in this war on terror, if it were not for the countless Contractors, who put their lives on the line to re-build Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as the millions of civilians who support the war effort from home.

***

I would like to introduce you to the Patriots Guild- a place where like minded can meet to share information about their pursuits in supporting the war effort. We are mindful that there are many people to thank, and to keep in our thoughts and prayers- our allies, contractors, Merchant Marines, troops, veterans and their families all need to feel loved. This is a huge effort, isn't it?

So stop by with a joke, a recipe, a song ,or a plan- and lets figure out a way to get our message out to the world.... WE LOVE OUR FREEDOM!

***

SO without further ado- I offer this ice breaker...... what is your favorite thing about having freedom? (keep it family friendly please!) I enjoy fresh coffee from Dunkin Donuts, myself... I just drive downtown and BINGO- Freedom...... I wonder if DD ever considered shipping coffee to our good guys in Iraq and Afghanistan. I think I will call them and ask.... How about you, what do you love about your freedom?

The inspiration for this thread comes from knowing there are many Americans , some civilians, who are making sacrafices and working hard for freedom, and may not hear a THANK YOU. IMO~ America is full of heroes and we as many of them to step up as we can get.

I LOVE the thought that I can say: "Hillary Clinton is a good-for-nothing Socialist Bag of Semi-Human Execrement" and not worry that the Gestapo is going to show up in the middle of the night and haul me off.

Uh oh! She ISN'T already president , yet????

Uh.....forget that I posted this, okay?

My son brought his new wife home for our first visit this weekend. I think he fell in love with the right woman. We'll be going to their place next weekend. We'll get to spend a little more time with them, and have a tour of his boat before it goes into dry dock. 2006 is starting out good.

My favorite thing about being free is the ability to do, say and become anything I want, because we all have the freedom to choose.

Thanks to our military, and our Founding Fathers, this is the best place in the world.

Two hundred, twenty-nine years ago a group of men came together at a particular time and in a particular place; men who would change the course of human history. They would establish a nation, the likes of which had never before been known on the earth, or imagined in the minds of men. It would be a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. It would preserve and promote freedom and liberty through a system of equal justice under law which would provide every person equal treatment. Furthermore, it would place the ultimate power, not in the government, but in the hands of the people.
We call these men our founding fathers and the nation they founded the United States of America. They have been described as "enlightened geniuses touched by divine intervention." I cannot imagine a better description, and I am convinced that only God could have brought together such men, at such a time, in such a place, and with such a purpose. The purpose was God's, and the men were His instruments for accomplishing it.
Yes, the world calls it the United States of America, but by the grace of God, we call it home.

Thanks for the nice thread.

As Thomas Jefferson said: “By a declaration of rights, I mean one which shall stipulate freedom of religion, freedom of the press, freedom of commerce against monopolies, trial by juries in all cases, no suspensions of the habeas corpus, no standing armies. These are fetters against doing evil which no honest government should decline.”

The word "freedom" automatically makes me think of America, everytime. This place is the place to be on planet earth. We have a way of life here that is second to none, anywhere. Sure, there are plenty of "quaint", "historical" or "important" places in other parts of the world, however they are only nice to visit, but not to live at because they lack the latitude that America has to offer to the individual. Other nations simply are not "home", nor can ever be because they cannot offer what America has at it's core of belief and way of life - Freedom.

I won't be posting any family photos, or photos of friends online. I had various photos posted on my profile page, until the person in one of the photos told me it was reposted at CP. I had hosted the photo for her temporarily, and just hadn't updated my page in a while. When she told me she'd seen it at CP, I thought she was lurking there. I discovered much later that she was a clown. The other clowns thought the photo was me. LOL - I played with them for awhile, switching the photo around. One of them saved it, and was going to repost it, but never did. I guess she told them it was really her. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

Clowns are funny! Especially those clowns. They think that by adding the word "posse" behind their name, they cease to be clowns. Silly clowns, brains are for Freepers.

I know- I do think it is a shame. I am worried that there will be large groups of civilians who have seen combat in this war- or who have seen the ravages of war, and who are left behind when they get back.

I worry about the families who are worried about a loved one and hear the bashing- what about those children. Americans should be supportive of any effort to bring this war to a close and get our people home safe.

I am supportive of that. By any means necessary- get our Americans home and make Iraq have less, as in NO MORE, terrorists.

I know there is the issue of pay- but hey- we are a capitalist system- that is just the way the ball bounces- I suppose just about anyone can volunteer to go and work over there. I dont think I am brave enough.

Here is one way of looking at it, Contractors are doing a job to free up a solider.

I wish troops made millions of dollars- but I am not in charge of that. If I were, hollywood would have to pay the troops out or their own pocket whenever they wanted to make a movie..... :]

Hey yall are doing more for this country than I am- so my hat is off to you!

And in most cases, carry a military ID card as well as Geneva Convention category but are unarmed.

They eat, sleep, and work alongside their military counterparts in non combatant positions in order to free up combatant positions and provide continuity when units rotate.

Thanks so much for your concerns!

Thanks for the ping, Diva! What a great idea!

It's hard to know where to begin in describing what is so great about our freedom, but here goes.....

The chance to advance oneself to whatever level of achievement you wish to attain. In this great country, you do not need to be born into a family of wealth or power in order to soar.

And even more importantly, the ability to feel secure in the knowledge that you live in the greatest country on earth, by the grace of God and the work of the armed forces!

Here is a blog, a bit dated~but good nonetheless~

Captains Blog

From the blog: Coalition means partnership. This Memorial Day, please know that the Coalition Forces of Iraq who paid the ultimate price, be they men or women; military, government or civilian; American, Iraqi, British or more than 40 other nationalities, included all who love freedom as their partners and friends.

BTW- I agree with this sentiment.. memorial day and every day.

When I first read this, I didn't know what to respond. So many favorite things about having freedom...

But I could start with the freedom I have at Free Republic to discuss the issues of the day, meet like-minded folks, military family members and even some troops themselves. Woo-hoo!

Then, there is the freedom I have as a woman. I don't think freedom exists for women anywhere on earth as it does here, and I am grateful!

I have mobility, meaning I can step outside my house -- by myself -- and walk down the street and feel safe. Our society accepts people as they are, young, old, married, single, divorced, various religions and so forth. We are decent to others, even though we may not agree.

Freedom means many opportunities to "live and let live" as well as to keep my nose clean. Hehe.

Enough of all that. We would not have all this freedom to enjoy if not for our Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, Coasties and Air(wo)men who have served and sacrificed.
