"One other point. I am sure the majority of all senators and representatives received Abramoff money in one way or another. Democrats are portraying this as a Republican scandal but their hands are not clean on this because Abramoff was lining his pockets while donating to both parties. He simple put the money where he thought it would do the most good."

There was a discussion on the Tony Snow thread about a week ago wrt an interview Wolf Blizter did w Howie Dean.

"Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean denied on Sunday that any Democrats had taken money from lobbyist Jack Abramoff, even though several top Dems - including Sen. Hillary Clinton - have already announced they were giving their tainted Abramoff cash to charity."

"That little detail didn't faze Dean, however - who insisted with a straight face to CNN's Wolf Blitzer:

"There are no Democrats who took money from Jack Abramoff, not one, not one single Democrat. Every person named in this scandal is a Republican. Every person under investigation is a Republican. Every person indicted is a Republican."

Here is my response to that and also a link to funds, in case some of you haven't been to this site, I found it interesting (sorry if this is old news to you, I've had personal commitments that have not allowed me to participate in the Sunday thread since before Christmas):

Dr. Demento is playing the Dim game and parsing his words. According to the list on this site, Dims took Abramaoff-related $ (e.g., from the Indian Tribes, etc.). However, if you change the sort to "Detail By Donor" and "Abramaoff, Jack A & Pamela" there are only R's on the list. Dims obviously took 'Abramoff-related money, but, according to this list, it doesn't appear they received any 'Abramaoff personal money'.

For the rest of his comment, if Wolfie was acting like a journalist (something he's forgotten how to do, if he ever knew), he would have

1) reminded Dean that no congresscritters not R or D have yet been indicted for this 'scandal'

2) asked if Dean knows someone at DOJ that has provided him w a list of all of the congresscritters under investigation - so far, we're not aware of the release of any such list and the only one we're aware of under investigation is Abramaoff, and, his Indian clients were equal opportunity contributors (e.g., Dim and Pubbies).

Good that you saved the British pound though. And good that the vote on the European Constitution was crushed.

Economically, it's good to have coalitions.

Politically, well the French need their empire. I hope that the other members stand up to the French and make them stop pushing the rest of Europe around.

"Since you are in Denver, what happened to the property of good old Lowry AFB?"

I grew up in Denver and my dad was stationed at Lowry. Was back a couple of years ago and made it a point to drive by (was only by the eastern portion). Couldn't believe what I saw! In some respects it saddened me a bit.

I think there was another defining moment for the Dems. When Spector slapped down Kennedy the thought that went thru my head was "Well, they FINALLY know they are the minority now." I think the realization was brought home to the Dems by these hearing that they REALLY are the Miniority party now.

You're familiar with the North American Continent.

Ask some Canadians if they are Americans.

LOL!

It makes me SICK that Kennedy is allowed to get away with this.

He either DELIBERATELY tried to use DECEPTIVE information to impact an actual Presidential nomination of a SC Justice, OR He so desperately reached for ANYTHING he could try and use to damage a man's integrity with things like RACIST, or ANTI-WOMAN that he didn't bother to even make usre his information was LEGITIMATE! It is like bringing a BARBER SHOP RUMOR in as EVIDENCE!

KENNEDY owes the ENTIRE COMMITTEE, Judge ALITO, Alito's FAMILY, CAP, and the AMERICAN PEOPLE an APOLOGY! A GOOD OLD FASHIONED, HEART FELT, APOLOGY! THE SCUM literally BELITTLED this ENTIRE nation and its process with INUENDO, DECEPTION, and ALL FOR POLITICAL PARTISAN VENOM.

It is an HONOR to even BE an AMERICAN. Imagine the overwhelming honor it would be to be present in that room during such an historical event..let alone the PRIVILEDGE and HONOR to actually PARTICIPATE in the PROCESS....-and this man just PISSED all over it.

He has NO DECENCY- he has NO APPRECIATION for this country. THE EPITOME OF ELITIST... the worst part is that the MEDIA actually enables this man to continue to BE ALL THEY CLAIM TO HATE!

UNBELIEVABLE! ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE!

"What? Biden isn't on?"

I suspect he had some plans for a long weekend and that's one of the reasons he was insisting to Specter that the Judiciary Committee couldn't convene on Tuesday, because Monday was a holiday. Couldn't help think at the time that just because Monday is a holiday, doesn't mean Tuesday is, too. Of, course there's the obvious that this is also just another way he's trying to delay the committee vote for another week, when he and Specter already agreed that the delay from Jan 2 to Jan 9 would be the 1-week delay (why would the Dims start keeping their word now).

Plugs also slipped in that he cancelled his vacation plans so the hearings could be this week (poor baby).

Yeah I remember that one with the word "defining" a vast understatement. I recall Spector saying "sorry Mr. Kennedy I am in charge here, this is my hearing and we shall not play by your rules or agenda. I will take it under advisement or something to that effect and he reiterated Kennedy's quote "over and over again about how Kennedy would keep bring up some inane issue.
Trouble is you never know which Spector or Graham for that matter will step up to the plate or when.
