28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number;

Oh great! "number", I thought he said weight! Here I was, being duly obedient, eating everything in sight, now I've got to go on a diet, find a mate of child bearing years, and get busy... Pray for me.

No, a celibate who sacrifices his own sexuality (and, in Paul's case, his life) for the good of his flock experiences the sacrifice, joy, love, and compassion that the father has for his children, also.

The danger of the celibate priesthood is that many have chosen that vocation when they lacked any level of maturity at all, and thus are not capable of offering their lives un alter Christi, as the sacrifice of the mass requires them to do.

Seems to me that Christ had something to say to them;
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves. Matthew 23:15

As Joe Friday said on Dragnet. That's about the size of it Frank.

I know that the New Testament instructs Christians to judge and discern but I think that discernment is more for my own benefit (in order to allow me to navigate my way through the temptations of this world). I suspect we are more in agreement at this point than not but most 'the world' (who are not Christian) are completely uninterested in hearing about Judgment (yours, mine, or God's).

They may be interested in the 'forgiveness' aspect of Christianity and if so, that's our opportunity to explain about judgment - God's Judgment - not mine - not yours - but God's! It's also our opportunity to explain the Gift of God. My reasons for this conclusion rest in the words of Jesus which I'll have to paraphrase but I know the gist of this is in the Gospel of John (8th Chapter).

Jesus faced the crowd surrounding the woman taken in the sin (or 'crime') of Adultery and when they insisted he endorse their actions (in accordance with Mosaic Law) in condemning the woman to death by stoning said, "Let him who is without sin among you cast the first stone" and when the crowd had dispersed, He looked up and said to her, "Woman, where are thy accusers? Hath no man condemned thee?" and when she answered, "No, Lord, no man..." Here's where Jesus responded to her, "Neither do I condemn thee. Go and sin no more."

Judgment is God's. I know there are many who will disagree with me on this (and you may be one of them) - that's OK, you're entitled to hold an opinion different from mine but I have thought on this and I have not changed my mind. Augment of the sins of others is God's Province - there are enough of my own sins covered under the Blood of the Lamb. I will not deliberately add more of my own if I can help it.

- God's Judgment - not mine - not yours - but God's!

I agree with that in theory to an extent, because God, or Jesus Christ rather, is the only one with the ability to met out eternal punishment, or conversely, reward.

So when a human speaks an opinion about some subject, he has judged his opinion to be correct.

But his opinion has no weight against another in regards to punishment or reward.

I believe that when Scripture says that he who is spiritual judgeth all things, that should be done. :-)

Did your father seek a foriegn bride or did he happen to meet, and fall in love with a foriegn woman? The two are not the same thing. My wife's parents were a German woman and an American serviceman. However, he didn't go shopping for a bride from Texas because he was rejected by Texas women. He just happened to be in her country and fall in love. Totally different things.

Sometimes they are.

I don't think anyone except those in the situation are in any position to delve into the minds or understand the motivations of people who seek love and relationships from abroad...whether deliberate or accidental. As such, we can agree to disagree.

Thanks for the thoughtful post (#508) you made.

Unfortunately, for the stake-carriers that are all-too-common on this (and similar) threads, I'm sure that your reasoning is not enough. Damn it, man! Don't you understand, you must reproduce! No excuses. Carry on.

Agree; "...when a human being speaks an opinion... he has judged his opinion... correct. But his opinion has no weight against another in regards to punishment or reward."

I agree with the part about "he who is spiritual judgeth all things..." but my judgment is in regard to the spiritual nature of that person's pronouncement and it allows me to judge whether or not the other person's pronouncement is true in the Light of God's Truth (and therefore allows me to agree with that person's Spiritual Judgment or to disagree with that person's (mis-)judgment and avoid that person's Error. If that person is open to discussion, as you appear to be, then perhaps we can come to an understanding of God's Truth that we both share (or perhaps not) but some folks don't want to discuss it and until God grants me the ability to "Speak from a Burning Bush" they will not want to hear any wisdom (or 'foolishness') that I might provide.

BTW, tell me how to italicize...

Thanks,

"Pilot? Pontius Pilate?"

Heh, heh, you bring back memories from when I was a kid attending Mass with my Mom and Dad. Looking at the Stations of the Cross, I saw one depicting a Roman soldier adjusting his helmet. The headgear somehow reminded me of a flight helmet and I asked Dad, "is that one Pontius pilot!?"

They can't address real issues so they invent sins in order to manipulate their "flocks."

He addresses real issues all the time, and BTW, I usually do not agree with a thing this guy says. Just because YOU don't agree with him doesn't make him a hypocrite or a pharisee.

And he (to my knowledge) doesn't have a flock, he isn't the pastor of a church.

And Southern Baptist don't listen, they usually stop at two-three kids no matter who says what.

Since we're talking about your father here, and not in the abstract, I'm going to back off completely. I hope your family is a happy one.

Anti christian BIGOTS.

The purpose of life is having a family. Watching your childs eyes light up on christmas morning. Watching them grow.

be fruitfull and multiply it says..

some cant..I understand..

but then there are those who are selfish and more concerned about their career and how they did in the stock market.

it SHOULD BE family first.

God knows...
