S.F. PROTEST: Raucous Union Square rally [Anti-Bush & State of Union address]

Demonstrators gathered in San Francisco at Union Square on Tuesday to rally noisily against President Bush and his State of the Union address.

Organizers estimated the crowd at about 4,000 people, many of whom beat makeshift drums, clanged pots and pans, blew whistles or just screamed as Bush's speech was broadcast live -- without sound -- on a giant video screen.

The World Can't Wait, a national protest group calling for Bush to step down, organized the demonstration to urge the protesters to march in an anti-Bush rally in Washington, D.C., on Saturday.

"Through this political action and this mobilization of people, we want to peacefully drive this regime from power," said Marc TerBeek, a spokesman for the organizers.

The protest began at about 5 p.m. with speakers ranging from former San Francisco poet laureate Devorah Major, UC Berkeley biology Professor Kevin Padian and Rev. Charles Tigard pumping up the partisan crowd an hour before Bush took the podium.

"We know that we stand at a pivotal time for our country, for our planet," said Tigard of the Metropolitan Community Church of San Francisco in the Castro neighborhood. "We cannot, and we will not be silent."

Protesters echoed the sentiments of many of the speakers, who attacked Bush's stance on a range of issues -- from the Iraq war to domestic spying to abortion rights.

"I can't count all the reasons why I'm here," said Anna Asevedo, 43, of San Francisco, who was accompanied by her 3-year-old son, Brom McCullough.

"I'm here because I need to stand up and be accountable," said Nica Ross, 22, of San Francisco. The chants, drumbeats and other noise during Bush's speech bounced off the walls from commercial buildings surrounding Union Square.

They've gone beyond facts, reason or debate--now they just bang drums. (And eat Cheetos, apparently.)

I'm hippy & I'm trippy
I'm a gypsy on my own
I'll stay a week & get the crabs &
Take a bus back home
I'm really just a phony
But forgive me
'Cause I'm stoned

Every town must have a place
Where phony hippies meet
Psychedelic dungeons
Popping up every street
GO TO SAN FRANCISCO
How I love ya, how I love ya, how I love ya, 'Frisco
(oh, my hair's getting good in the back)

The first time that I saw those pictures was decades ago...reading Orwell's 1984 bit about Big Brother's "2 Minute Hate."

Back then the Left still had intellect, but by today the left-wing is completely mind-controlled. Their idea of intellectual acumen is now Cindy Sheehan and a water bong.

They've lost most registered voters nationwide now. They've lost most state governorships, most state legislatures, the House, the Senate, the Presidency, and today they finally lost the Supreme Court...

...to which moonbat Senator Boxer actually got in front of a C-Span TV camera and claimed that Republicans were out of touch with the American "mainstream."

This, after she just lost her failibuster 72 to 25.

But the Left can still muster in San Francisco for their mindless 2 minute hates. They've still got that.

They've only got 18 Blue States left (i.e. states that never voted for President Bush), but they can still muster for their 2 Minute Hate therapy.

"You forgot the amazingly perfect Dem response by Captain Eyebrow. Its just too much good in one day man..."

Hi, I'm Tim Kaine. "The Democrats have a better way. Thousands and Thousands of San Francisco patriotic Rent a Mobbers/democRats protested the evil Bush and his evil SOTU Speech. Then, they cheered my wonderful and positive response to his evil speech."

Whenever, I'm lying, my left eyebrow twitches up and down!

Standing in the streets may help those libs in SF "FEEL GOOD" The democraps in this photo should be cheering but are not. Bush just got done saying "...The terrorist surveillance program has helped prevent terrorist attacks.  It remains essential to the security of America.  If there are people inside our country who are talking with al Qaeda, we want to know about it, because we will not sit back and wait to be hit again."

Republicans were cheering like anyone should who does not want another attack but it seems the dems here are on the side of the terrorists. What else should we think???

To the Congress of the United States of America,
This is our land and our war. You voted for the war and you could at least see it through until we win.
This is our country we are talking about not a country club.

There were many faces that I recall seeing at the annual speech. There was petulant Clinton, who had many daggers in her eyes, Christopher Dod, who had a Cheshire grin on his face and strange looking eyes, John Kerry, was polite to a fault, Ted Kennedy, who looked like a bloated toad, sorry all toads was so bored that he kept looking at his hands and Nancy Peiosi, who had a facial tic around the eye maybe it was a call to arms? Then there was McCain, who fell asleep. HE WANTS TO BE PRESIDENT!!!!
There was a men (Obama)? seated in front of Mrs. Clinton who seemed to be listening to the speech. Of course this annual speech is a dog and pony show but if you are going to run for president try and keep awake or did you need your nap?
These people, many, that I've named are in the running for the presidency. What gives any of them the right to be in the oval office?
Yes I am a conservative but I believe in winning this war.
WHY DON'T THE DEMOCRATS WANT TO WIN? The troops do.
Senator Boxer said that her children were to old to fight and her grandchild to young.
If we don't win now her grandchild will be old enough to fight. OTHER SENATORS WILL HAVE CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN OF AGE TO FIGHT FOR THE USA. I am a San Franciscan, and am embaresed at my neighbors behavior. joydoc
