Democrats may unite on plan to pull troops
Boston Globe ^ | February 20, 2006 | Rick Klein

WASHINGTON -- After months of trying unsuccessfully to develop a common message on the war in Iraq, Democratic Party leaders are beginning to coalesce around a broad plan to begin a quick withdrawal of US troops and install them elsewhere in the region, where they could respond to emergencies in Iraq and help fight terrorism in other countries.

The concept, dubbed ''strategic redeployment," is outlined in a slim, nine-page report coauthored by a former Reagan administration assistant Defense secretary, Lawrence J. Korb, in the fall. It sets a goal of a phased troop withdrawal that would take nearly all US troops out of Iraq by the end of 2007, although many Democrats disagree on whether troop draw-downs should be tied to a timeline.

Howard Dean, Democratic National Committee chairman, has endorsed Korb's paper and begun mentioning it in meetings with local Democratic groups. In addition, the study's concepts have been touted by the senator assigned to bring Democrats together on Iraq -- Jack Reed of Rhode Island -- and the report has been circulated among all senators by Senator Dianne Feinstein, an influential moderate Democrat from California.

The party remains divided on some points, including how much detail to include in a party-produced document, fearful of giving too much fodder for attacks by Republicans.

"This is the same strange plan they had last year: pull out US troops from Iraq, camp out somewhere else in the region, and in the (very likely) event of civil war, re-invade Iraq for the 2nd time."

And it's based upon the very successful plan implemented in South Vietnam. Promise assistance then renage on the deal.

You can bet they would want another congressional resolution before any US troops could sit foot in Iraq. Of course, this resolution would have to be carefully debated over at least a two year period and would have to be acceptable to Moveon.org, CAIR, Cindy Sheehan, etc., etc.

Once again, the "intellectually elite" Liberal Left fires round after round into it's own foot.

Isn't it obvious that they know more about conducting a war than do the Generals, the Joint Chiefs, the SecDef and the Commander in Chief?

Just another reason to keep Hillary Clinton as far away from the White house as possible! May she never get another chance to run this country! If anyone thinks she was bad as 'co president' you don't even want to think about her FULLY IN CHARGE!

The Anti-DeLay War Room
A liberal think tank takes on a new mission.

The Center for American Progress, the new liberal think tank started by former White House chief of staff John Podesta, is ratcheting up its campaign against House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, producing anti-DeLay ads and using the DeLay case in its fundraising appeals.

The Center, which bills itself as a "nonpartisan research and educational institute," has launched a campaign which it calls "Drop the Hammer." On Thursday morning it sent an e-mail to supporters asking them to "help keep the pressure on Tom DeLay."

Korb knows better. He knows if the troops leave, they will never go back.

Lakoff has been arguing that the Dims need to use certain language in defining their message so it would stick in people's mind. That's why, he was so sad when Ken Mehlman defined Hillary as 'angry', a very good definition of the person, and would stick to her for a while.

Why do you think Democrat Congressmen and Congresswomen know how to fight a war better than people who have made a career of it?

My thoughts exactly. American casualties will pay for Congressional micromanagement just as American casualties pay for Old Media sedition.

I agree. We should "strategically redeploy" all the troops home in November of 2006, briefly, so they can vote...maybe then, their votes will get counted...

The Left fights for its own life knowing it absolutely must defeat America in Iraq to survive in its present form.
