A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Dems still in bad shape

by JohnHuang2

Poll: Bush Ratings At All-Time Low declared CBS News on its online home page. Everyone was shocked. CBS is still in business? "The latest CBS News poll finds President Bush's approval rating has fallen to an all-time low of 34 percent, while pessimism about the Iraq war has risen to a new high." Bleak polling data like this suggests you can probably rule-out a Bush third term.
So Democrats are in great shape, no? Let's see.
In Ohio, Democrats are trying to defeat "vulnerable" GOP Congresswoman Jean Schmidt. To do this, the party is rallying around state Senator Charlie Wilson. The Hill reports that Ohio Congressman Ted Strickland, "who is giving up his seat to run for governor, said Friday he would support Wilson. A dozen Democratic county chairman endorsed Wilson . . ." On a roll, Wilson failed to get on the ballot. For the Democrat primary. He needed a whopping 50 valid signatures.
Again in Ohio, Democrats are trying to unseat "vulnerable" GOP Congressman Bob Ney, who's "vulnerable" because of ties to Jack Abramoff who's tied to Sen. Harry Reid who isn't "vulnerable." The AP reports that Democrats "failed three times to recruit experienced elected officials to run against" the Congressman, so now they're stuck with "lesser-known" losers "against one of their top political targets in a race they've been touting for months."

On Iraq, mere weeks away from the third anniversary of Saddam's removal from power, Democrats "have failed to hammer out a unified strategy for what the US should do next" (Financial Times, 2/6). Half the party favors immediate withdrawal. The other half favors almost immediate withdrawal. To convince the American people they're not that weak on defense, the party's running a bunch of military veterans for seats in Congress. Running war veterans for office worked so well for Democrats in 2004.
After two months of beating up on President Bush for spying on al-Qaeda agents on U.S. soil, Bush "appears to be making headway with his defense of the government's authority to conduct warrantless wiretaps of suspected terrorists," reports the Pew Research Center about their latest poll. "By 54%-43%, the public believes it is generally right for the government to monitor communications of Americans suspected of having terrorist ties without first obtaining permission from the courts. In early January, the public was evenly divided over this issue."
But, showing its great sense of timing, the New York Times is suing the Pentagon for documents containing the names of al-Qaeda-Americans and groups who were "spied" on by the NSA. And Republicans still think there's a liberal media.

On fundraising, Robert Novak reports that Howard Dean's DNC "continues to worry" Dems. "This cycle, (Dean) has now spent roughly every penny he has raised." Meanwhile, the GOP "had a stunning month of fundraising, with the National Republican Senatorial Committee finally besting its Democratic counterpart, more than doubling its take."
Democrats are so worried about how weak they look on national security matters that after years of accusing Bush of being a racist warmongering Arab-hater, now they say Bush isn't tough enough on Arabs and oppose the Dubai Ports World contract because, under the deal, the terminals at six major seaports will be run by Arabs. The terminals are currently run by a British firm, Peninsular and Oriental. Concerned Democrats are concerned that the UAE, which owns Dubai Ports World, has terrorists -- unlike terrorist-free London.
The UAE allows U.S. ships to dock in its waters, helps the Great Satan gather intel and is a strong partner in the War on Terror. That's 3 reasons right there for Democrats to oppose the deal.
Democrats -- who think the world would be a safer place if Saddam were still in power and who go bananas over Bush's spying on al-Qaeda without the proper court papers --.have been pushed to the sidelines. And that's where they're staying.
Anyway, that's...

My two cents

Read It Aloud

Read:
1 Timothy 4:6-16

Give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. —1 Timothy 4:13

Bible In One Year: Numbers 26-27; Mark 8:1-21

cover We are blessed with many wonderful translations of the Bible these days, so it's hard for us to realize that for more than 350 years one version was used by much of the English-speaking world. Today some people recoil at the King James' "thees," "thous," and "verilys." Yet there is something beautiful about hearing it read aloud, especially familiar passages like the 23rd Psalm.

In God's Secretaries, author Adam Nicolson chronicles the King James translators' sensitivity to sound. He says that the 12 men sat around the room listening to the text being read aloud. They felt that what governed the acceptability of a particular verse was not only accuracy to the original language, but a pleasant sound of the words.

Paul understood the power of the spoken Word. To the young pastor Timothy he instructed public Bible reading: "Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine" (1 Timothy 4:13).

The Word of God stirs the heart when it enters the believer's ear. So whatever version you're reading in your quiet time, in family devotions, or in a church service, remember the power of the spoken Word. Look for opportunities to read it aloud. —Dennis Fisher

We need to take the time each day
To read God's Word and pray,
And listen for what He might say
To guide us on our way. —Sper

God speaks through His Word—take time to listen.

Just in case you ever get these two environments mixed up, this should make things a little bit clearer.

IN PRISON..........you spend the majority of your time in an 10X10 cell.
AT WORK............you spend the majority of your time in an 8X8 cubicle.

IN PRISON.........you get three meals a day.
AT WORK...........you get a break for one meal and you have to pay for it.

IN PRISON..........you get time off for good behavior.
AT WORK............you get more work for good behavior.

IN PRISON..........the guard locks and unlocks all the doors for you.
AT WORK............you must often carry a security card and open all the doors for yourself.

IN PRISON..........you can watch TV and play games.
AT WORK...........you could get fired for watching TV and playing games.

IN PRISON.........you get your own toilet.
AT WORK..........you have to share the toilet with some people who pee on the seat.

IN PRISON..........they allow your family and friends to visit.
AT WORK............you aren't even supposed to speak to your family.

IN PRISON.........all expenses are paid by the taxpayers with no work required.
AT WORK............you get to pay all your expenses to go to work, and they deduct taxes from your salary to pay for prisoners.

IN PRISON..........you spend most of your life inside bars wanting to get out.
AT WORK ..........you spend most of your time wanting to get out and go inside bars.

IN PRISON .........you must deal with sadistic wardens.
AT WORK...........they are called managers.

Now get back to work. you're not getting paid to check emails or the FReeRepublic!
