I KNOW it is in News/activism. I want this seen before being sent to the Cheesehole.
I am working on an extra computer. My children got into my computer last night and have made it so I cannot get back into my area. I reloaded Pro so I could at least have windows to look at and I can see my flower and name in user accounts but cannot get to them. I need HELP!! I have bills due today
What did they do? Road runner went down after a power outage and they thought it was the computer. They were in under my daughter's account which I stupidly permitted her administrator status so she could install her Kodak software.
Am I stupid? YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSss!!
Are Feeepers brilliant and altruistic? I pray so!!
Would you please help me recover my accounts? Thank you.

Have you tried using System Restore? You are running XP Pro, right? Try going to the start menu, run, msconfig, then run System Restore.

I reloaded Pro so I could at least have windows to look at...Depending on how your system is set up and how you "reloaded" that may be the only thing you have now. You may have to go to your backup hard drive. You do have a backup don't you?

If you reloaded Pro, your other accounts may still show up, but they will not work. You can browse to the old account info (if it still exists) and see if your files are still there (sometimes reloading a Microsoft OS will leave much old info intact and accessible) and try taking ownership of the files to put into your new account. But much info is just lost and will have to be rebuilt.
Good Luck

It sounds like you just need to go into your daughters account, and reset the password for your account. Or, your account may just be disabled.
Go in to your daughters account, right mouse click "my computer" left click "manage" go down to "local users and computers" left click on "users" and look for your user account. Should be able to right mouse click on your user account and reset the password or account.

My accounts usually come up when I boot.

As a previous poster said, since you reloaded XP, you probably don't have that account anymore, but hopefully the information for it is there. Try
this. You MAY be able to find your account and set it up using this.

One way is to login as admin. All user profiles are unders c:\documents and settings
1. create a new user
2. login as that user one time
3. logout of that user
4. login as another admin
5. delete the new user profile
6. rename the old profile you were not able to get into to the name of the new user profile you just deleted.
6. right click on folder or renamed user profile folder and go to 'properties' click on security tab and make sure your user has full rights to this folder
7. when you login as new user old user's profile is your new profile...
8. follow me?

They need beatings with cat o'nine tails. But that is frowned upon here in Maine.

Have you tried to do a system restore?
Got to your "Start" tab....click on "Programs"...."Accessories"....."System Tools"....."System Restore".....and follow the directions to restore to an earlier date......perhaps a couple of days BEFORE the kids made their changes.
I hope this helps you.

If the main ID is a system admin, then it can get to everything.
But, yeah, when in doubt do a system restore.
I wish I had it on 2000 (my corporate laptop)

Try this. When you boot, as soon as it starts, trying typing an Function key... not sure which one F3, F5, F7? Anyway, one of them will get you to a screen where you can set it on safe mode or do a system restore to an earlier point. If you can restore to a point earlier than when the settings were changed, you may be alright.
If you actually reinstalled Windows, I'm not sure what will happen.

Sign on as your daughter's ID that has sys admin and do a system restore OR
Create a new userid (I am not on XP at this moment or I would walk you through it) that is the same as the one you want to access.
A sys admin should be able to get to anything.

System restore won't erase documents; it just changes system settings to an earlier saved point. I don't really know how it works. . . sounds like there are several people here who do!
