Saddam Regime Document Dated 2001 Shows Chemical Platoon Still Exists And Active (Translation)
Pentagon/FMSO website about Iraqi Pre-War Document ^ | March 25 2006 | jveritas

Posted on 03/25/2006 11:28:53 AM PST by jveritas

Document CMPC-2004-000404 dated 2001 indicates that Saddam Regime still has an Active Chemical Platoon in Al Qadisia Air base. In fact the first page of the document lists the results “open tournament” i.e. “open training tournament” for the members of the Chemical Platoon. Page 8 and Page 9 show tables that list the status of “Specialized Vehicles” used by the Chemical Platoon. On the top of Page 9 the year 2001 is shown and this prooves that this document was written in 2001. Also page 8 and page 9 show the name and signature of the same guy who is the Commander of the Chemical Platoon at Al Qadisia Air Base, his name is Captain is Mohamad Taha Hassan. The remaining pages show the name of soldiers and their vacation time.

This document is a clear indication that Saddam never stopped his WMD program at least up to the year 2001 as the document show because there was still and active Chemical Platoon in Al Qadisia Air base.

Partial Translation from Page 8 that list a table of the Specialized Vehicles of the Chemical Platoon and its status

The Status of the Specialized Vehicles for the Chemical Platoon the command of Al Qadisia air base

1. The type of Vehicle: Surface vehicle, The Working Status: Working.

5. The type of vehicle: Shower vehicle, The Working Status: Working.

End of Partial Translation

The Shower Vehicle is of course used to clean the member of the Chemical Platoon from any Chemical Residuals.

One of the reasons, these documents were mass released was to have a lot Americans who read Arabic to translate and then post their translations on the web.

Thanks to jveritas, we are seeing how that plan is coming together.

I, for one, am certainly glad y'all are providing these translations and links.

My local newspaper is UNDER-reporting any of this stuff. They did carry the Russian leak news this morning, but anything regarding the AQ and Iraqi connection has been missing.

Time for me to fire off another letter to The Bee editors.

These Saddam documents just have to be killing the 'Rats behind closed doors.

Which could be why we've hardly heard anything in the news about these documents

Kudos to jveritas for translating these documents and posting them.

Anybody on this ping list, who reads Arabic could do the same.

Slovakia, which is a tiny and not particularly wealthy European country, has such a unit.

They will be extremely hesitant to carry the news about the documents that really hurt their agenda: Saddam Regime active WMD programs and his ties to Al Qaeda and other terrorist groups.

I also believe that Saddam wouldn't plan for a chemical attack against THEM...because they know we don't use those kinds of chemicals...

The document does not identify what is the exact function of the Unit except it call it "Chemical Platoon".

It is a good question and you're probably right about many not noticing it. It is suspicious though only from a standpoint of Iraq having been the only country to have actually used chemical weapons in the area.

You may be right, but it may be offensive also. We will have to see as more documents are translated and posted here and on the military's website.

I'm fine with you and other FReepers looking at the other side of the coin, as we have to keep our wits about us.

But as one who firmly believes Saddam had the programs through 2003, I think offensive.

Why else were they hiding Russian and Turkish experts when the UN inspectors did a surprise visit in December 2003?

YOur questions are valid, in that this is the type that most certainly will be asked, and need to be answered. It's interesting, according to Jveritas, that names are given as to vacation time, etc. Perhaps these people in Iraq can be questioned?

That's ok Veritas. There's a long way to go, lots of data to develop. Just trying to help with military knowledge. Keep up the great work.
