Ever since they lost the 2004 elections, Democrats have been falling all over themselves to proclaim their personal religious faith to an electorate that obviously cares about such things. So now the party that once ridiculed politicians who cite their personal values is trying to show that it can out-Jesus the GOP.
They've been none too subtle about it - particularly New York's own Sen. Hillary Clinton. These days, she sounds more like she's running for dean of the local theological seminary than for president of the USA - er, that is, for re-election to the Senate. Hillary's latest tack is typically Clintonian: She's accused "mean-spirited" Republicans of plotting to put Jesus behind bars.
Say what?
Clinton contends that based on "my understanding of the Scripture," a GOP bill to crack down on illegal immigration by making it a felony to be in this country unlawfully "would literally criminalize the Good Samaritan and probably even Jesus himself."
But Rep. Peter King (R-LI), chairman, House Homeland Security Committee, rightly wonders just what she's talking about.
He says he finds it hard to believe that Jesus would risk lives by crowding hundreds of people on board a broken-down ship for a dangerous sea journey, or marching them across a desert with no food and water, or abandoning them at the border.
To be sure, this isn't the first time Hillary has uttered such nonsense in an effort to bolster her Bible Belt credentials. Last fall, she compared the plight of Hurricane Katrina refugees to Mary and Joseph searching for a place to stay in Bethlehem, adding caustically: "At least they didn't have to worry about FEMA."
Fortunately, Congress will decide such issues based on what's in the Constitution, not the Scriptures (or Pastor Hillary's interpretation of them, anyway).
Praise the Lord.

The Gypsy (read: Travelers) community of which the Clintons are blood members is not avowedly Christian. Their theology is cultic and animist, more attuned to witchcraft than a belief in divine goodness.
Look to the beliefs of Hitler and Stalin to gain an appreciation of Clinton theology.
WHY THE RELIGIOUS RIGHT MUST MOBILIZE AGAINST HILLARY:
CLINTON CONFLATES EVANGELICAL CHRISTIANS AND ISLAMO-FASCIST TERRORISTS

LIEberman's biggest scam was getting into the Senate on the backs of the unborn. This craven individual, Lieberman, ruthlessly used the unborn to get into office. As a 1988 Senate candidate, Lieberman made many, many pro-life pledges to Connecticut Catholic leaders as Atty General running for pro-abort Sen Weicker's seat. Based on a Lieberman poll indicating pro-life votes were there for the taking, Lieberman courted Catholics, and made pro-life promises that he had no intention of keeping. Lieberman got into the Senate----with pro-life votes. Once in office, Lieberman turned tail and became an unwavering abortion rights supporter, voting consistently pro-abortion, and even voting to uphold partial-birth abortion on six separate occasions. The Ntl Right to Life Committee has meeting notes of candidate Lieberman's calculated, phony pro-life pledges.
Connecticutians should remember Lieberman is up for reelection......they should not repeat their mistake and re-vote this charlatan into office.
Thanks!
It's crucial to note that candidate GWB made a determined effort to court Catholic votes----and was very successful, much to the Dims dismay.
I remember how the MSM fawned over Gore picking him claiming how politically savy the move was. Now Liebermann is persona non grata among the libs.
Voters realized carrying a bible or faking a tear does not make one a Christian. As for false witness, both Clinton's need to do better in self-evaluation since they both lie without having a conscience.
Ff--150 pointed out in 2002 that the dims would become the party of born-agains with rhetoric.
This is going to work about as effectively as AlGore trying the same thing a few years back. Christians aren't stupid, despite the bigoted stereotypes of the commies.
Oh, please this is so bogus. Lieberman has done more for liberalism than anyone you might mention. LIEBerman cultivates an image and utters words for public purposes but look at his actions---that's where it counts.
EXHIBIT ONE: LIEberman's biggest scam was getting into the Senate on the backs of the unborn.
EXHIBIT TWO: Lieberman and ex-Reagan Edu Secy Bill Bennett would give out "Silver Sewer Awards" to express opposition to Hollywood's salacious, sexually explicit and violent music, TV and movie output. Then when Lieberman became Gore's running mate, he went to Hollywood on bended knee, in obeisance to the moguls, promising to strengthen Hollywood's ultra-liberal control over America, in exchange for votes and campaign financing.
EXHIBIT THREE: Lieberman's a dedicated gun-grabber - as his voting record clearly shows.
EXHIBIT FOUR: Lieberman famously went on and on during impeachment hearings about Bill Clinton's sexual conduct, but refused to cast his vote against Clinton when it counted.
EXHIBIT FIVE: Lawmakers With Relatives on Payroll By The Associated Press Wednesday, April 13, 2005 ----Connecticut Democratic Sen. Joe Lieberman: Son Matthew received about $34,000 and daughter Rebecca about $36,000 for working on the senator's 2004 presidential campaign.
EXHIBIT SIX: LIEberman cultivates a pro-military image with nice words and gestures, yet, he was so "supportive" of the US military that he was willing to become vice-president by NOT counting Florida's military vote. The man is not fit to have anything to do with the US military.
I have asked several fellow Catholics (democrats) how they reconcile their political affiliation with a party that is pro-abortion. I have never gotten an answer that wasn't a dodge.
Marriage vows come to mind as well......
True but you won't find anyone on DU saying anything even remotely positive about him.
And it's nice to observe the Dims fumbling (Go Pats).
