Sen. John McCain gave a big thumbs up last night to demonstrators planning to march across the Brooklyn Bridge today in support of comprehensive immigration reform. "If such demonstrations continue, I think we will have a bill for the President to sign soon," the Arizona Republican declared at an Irish and American flag-studded town hall meeting in the Bronx sponsored by the Irish Lobby for Immigration Reform.
"The more debate, the more demonstrations, the more likely we will prevail," he told more than 3,000 cheering supporters - many clad in green-and-white shirts - who packed the St. Barnabas High School auditorium in Wakefield

The solution-in the short-term, at least-is not to make the problem infinitely worse, which is what amnesty would do.

"I only vote Republican to stop the Democrats"
So did I.
Wouldn't it be nice to vote for a candidate who truly enforced the consitution, and upheld the laws of this country.

The current law states that the penalty for crossing the borders illegally is $5000 and deportation. Not $1000 and you get to wait here for a green card.
You may have a point about the 40% who did crossed at some legal port of entry.
You still have to remember that a large number these illegals, whether they entered legally or not, have engaged in crimes worse than overstaying their VISA, tax fraud and evasion to name but two.
Each of these carry penalties slightly stiffer than a $1000 dollar fine, in fact both are felonies.
The bottom line is the Senate and Bush's plans are nothing more than amnesty, that is %100 unacceptable.
The illegal aliens have to leave the country, return to their own and file proper entry paperwork with the US consulate. That is the only amnesty I am willing to offer.

I honestly don't know why they are staying in the States, I know a lot of people who emigrated in the bad old 1980s who have come home to a prosperous economy in recent years.
It would suggest that those who have stayed behind are up to no good!!

Look at all those red flags, the Democrats supporting them doesn't surprise me, it's who they are. But for the Republicans, RINO or not, this just doesn't make sense.

Well, we could definitely use some more immigrants who do more than sit in a pub and drink all day, but I'm in the minority of opinion in that regard.
At least, if our local elected officials are any accurate barometer of public opinion.

Everything else, especially the drivel about someone "having to go to the back of the line," is insulting verbal diarrhea. "Line? We doan' need no steenkin' line!" If they were willing to stand in line they already would have done so. But it's carefully-drafted verbal diarrhea of the highest RNC-approved compassionate-conservative quality.

Not McCain again! Make him stop...MAKE HIM STOP!!!
I simply must get some postcards made up so I can just send him mail whenever I hear about him. I'll put a picture of a woman's vanity on it, and glue a piece of mirror tape so he can look at himself. Maybe if he spends more time looking at himself in my mirrors he won't have time for interviews. Gadz, I am so sick of him.

I don't know how much of it is apathy as it is a cowed state of fear. Most of us watch TV, have a drink now and again, and complain about a government that doesn't seem to actually care about it's country.
The problem who is going to go out and start shooting, you or me or who? Here is the problem if most of everyone neighbors won't follow their neighbors, and they won't, then we are done for anyway. They won't be rested away from their TV for that length of time.
Even if a small group could have some effect the whole weight of the government would be thrown against them, wiretaps, signal interception and jamming, law enforcement special operations squads, they would run this group down in the media to be worse than the Nazi's. The thing is we already no this.

Yeah, but I don't trust any bill written by Ted Kennedy.
Everything that comes out of that man's mouth is a lie.

You see, many of those will self deport. They will have a parent die and attend the funeral. They will long to visit family and will go do so. Once they do, they can't get back in. ROFLOL!!!!

They're not.
The BICE is already a joke as it is.
This amnesty travesty is simply another illustration of that ineluctable fact.
