Boycott set to support illegals
The Washington Times ^ | 4 April 2006 | Jerry Seper

Posted on 04/04/2006 1:44:12 PM PDT by Rockitz

Immigration rights organizers today will call for a nationwide boycott of work, school and shopping on May 1 to protest congressional efforts to clamp down on illegal aliens as part of pending immigration-reform legislation.

The "Great American Boycott of 2006" is only one in a series of large-scale events the protesters hope will sway lawmakers to put millions of illegal aliens on track toward permanent residency and U.S. citizenship.

"The massive March 25 march and rally in Los Angeles of well over one million immigrant workers and their supporters -- along with protests and student walkouts throughout the United States -- is irrefutable evidence that a new civil rights and workers' rights movement is on the rise," said Raul Murillo, one of the key organizers and president of the Hermandad Mexicana Nacional.

"In order to realize the goal of legalization for the millions of undocumented workers, we have the obligation to keep pressing the Congress of the United States to legislate immigration reform that grants full legalization for all immigrants."

Sarah Sloan, a spokeswoman for boycott organizers, said the boycott, additional marches and rallies in at least 30 cities nationwide beginning next week are designed to highlight opposition to House legislation that would crack down on illegal aliens.

The Act Now to Stop War & End Racism (ANSWER) coalition, which organized the Los Angeles march to win "full rights for undocumented workers," is confident its new "national action" will prove successful.

ANSWER's steering committee includes the Free Palestine Alliance, the Partnership for Civil Justice, the Nicaragua Network, the Korea Truth Commission, the Muslim Student Association, the Mexico Solidarity Network and the Party for Socialism and Liberation. It denounces as racism attempts to criminalize illegal aliens.

I wrote President Bush a letter last week to ask him to close the borders and when I went to the White House web site to get the zip code you had the choice to view the site in Espanol http://www.whitehouse.gov/espanol/index.es.html

So I wrote the letter in Spanish.

"I'd shop extra on May 1..."

I'll make up for what you don't spend. We're putting off all large ticket item purchases until May 1. I've been trying to get people fired up on this idea for the last few days to little avail.

SPEND, SPEND, SPEND ON MAY FIRST!!!! American made products only. Good luck on your test, now get back to the books.

"May 1 -- good time to get out my American flag and hang it from the front stoop."

Also a good day to buy a new flag. Our 9/11 ones are starting to fade.

Will they be boycotting the welfare offices and ER's too?

Makes no difference.
All the letters go to our Real President, Vicente Fox.

The way things are going, I'm starting to think the radical Democrats
had a point in complaining that Dubya wasn't elected President.
Now we're getting a idea who really was elected.

I'm involved in hiring sometimes, and I know that the requirement is for a job applicant to provide various proofs that they are legally eligible to work in the U.S. As far as I know, my company stays in compliance with that law.

But your list provides an interesting angle on this issue. Assuming your list is correct, then there are plenty of major, big-time companies (not just the small-time farmer who is trying to get his mushroom crop in), who are in blatant violation of the law. If you can find this out, then the government can find this out. If the government can find this out, and these companies continue to hire illegals, then it means that the goverment is failing to or is refusing to enforce its own laws.

Given the trio of millions of illegals on the ground, big-time companies that are hiring them, and a goverment that won't enforce its laws, what real hope is there that this problem is ever going to be solved?

I'll be sure to do my shopping then; I can imagine it will be nice to shop without a screaming, unruly pack of illegal aliens in stores.

There should be a planned work stop boycott of and by all of America's patriotic and true citizens if the DC slime pass an amnesty and do nothing about stopping the flow of illegals into this country.

You would be surprised how many companies that DON'T hire
illegals. Marriott is one. Don't brand all of them
exploiters of illegal labor.

Then, there are companies who hire someone who appears to have their documentation only to find out later it was forged.

I am only providing examples. You can generalize a complicated issue.

Major banking institutions?

Show me proof of this. You have to go through
hell to get a job in a bank nowadays.

If you are talking about the people who do the cleaning, they are likely a contract company that hires illegals.

You generalized too much in your repy.

Have one of the "good ol' ones" with 48 stars. It could probably withstand a hurricane because it is built so well. :)

I would like to see where you have documentation that all of the companies you listed hire illegals. Some you are correct, the others you listed are questionable.

I wish. That is the main reason people are ticked off they are here.

They aren't supposed to be able to collect anything but they do.

Meanwhile, I pay $200/month out of my pocket to medically insure my kids and I. Then, our out of pocket costs go up because the illegals crash a truck with 35 crammed in and 70% went to the E.R. for life-threatening injuries.

And if their employers were smart, they would inform the illegals that if they dont show up to work, not only will they be fired, they will be deported.
