BREAKING NEWS: SHAW HEIGHTS PRINCIPAL SURRENDERS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 6, 2006
Shaw Heights Middle School Ends Neutral Dress Code
Westminster, CO: Due to the exemplary behavior of the students at Shaw Heights Middle School and the progress made throughout the week, as well as Attorney General John Suthers news release regarding the display of flags in schools, Myla Shepherd, Shaw Heights Middle School principal has announced that the neutral dress code will end effective Friday, April 7, 2006 at 8:00 a.m.
March 31, 2006
Dear Parent and Guardians:
The safety of our students is a main concern at Shaw Heights Middle School. The issue of illegal immigration that has been featured in the media and discussed by legislators at federal and state levels has caused some unrest and increased tensions among students at our school. Some clothing worn recently by some of our students has created a tense and sometimes hostile environment in our school over the last few days. This is not the environment we want for our students.
In order to rebuild relationships and avoid further tension, I have altered our schools dress code. I am asking students to dress neutrally so that we may shift our focus back to learning. I believe this will help calm some of the frustration and hurt feelings generated this week.
You and your student can help by complying with our current dress code and by students not wearing:
# clothing that makes a political statement # camouflage clothing # banners, flags, bandanas of all types
Our goal is to live up to our Falcon Four by showing respect, responsibility, integrity and pride at all times. My goal is to keep this the best middle school in the city safe and focused on learning. I will keep you updated and aware of our progress at Shaw Heights.
I appreciate your support. Please contact me with any questions.
Sincerely,
Myla Shepherd Principal

The ONLY reason they backed down is because the CO State Legislature passed legislation today that said ANY school who refuses to allow the American Flag will be cut off from ALL funding. I heard that on the news earlier today.
Celebratory ping! :D
That was certainly part of it. I think the endless number of calls from parents of children at that school into our local talk radio stations had a lot to do with it as well. Dan Caplis and Craig Silverman of KHOW 630am have organized a grass roots effort to sue the school and the principal. It worked!
Well....maybe now the parents are starting to figure out just what kind of little "indoctrination camps" their little ones study in daily.....this is GOOD!
Their behavior was never in question.
A more accurate preamble for this principal's pretentious and false assertion of authority to determine whether or not students may wear patriotic clothing would go:
Due to the Drudge Report, I am now exposed as a traitor to my country and must cowardly retreat from my communist beliefs by ending my illegal attempt to punish conservative students at my school.
Wait until the CEA sees how Coffman solves the PERA snafu.
Myla deserves some more mail for being a legally ignorant schmuck: mshepherd@echalk.adams50.org
The Mexicans are unlike previous immigrants. This definitely needs to be read by everyone at least once! It should be linked on pertinent immigration threads. Here's an interesting link about Samuel Huntington:
Attorney General Suthers Comments On The Display Of U.S. Flag In Public Schools
04/06/2006
Suthers: Colorado schools may not ban reasonable displays of U.S. flag
(DENVER) At the urging of Attorney General John Suthers, Commissioner of Education William Moloney today sent a copy of Colorado Revised Statute 27-2-108.5, concerning the proper and legal display of the flag of the United States, to all Colorado superintendents.
The statute is clear, said Suthers. No Colorado school has the authority to prohibit students from reasonably displaying the flag of the United States on their person or property. While schools can and should act to prevent conduct by students that interferes with the education process, their remedy must be narrowly tailored and cannot include a general ban on displaying the American flag.
Attorney General Suthers urged Commissioner Moloney to provide schools with a copy of the statute following actions taken by principals of certain schools which prohibited students from displaying the American flag in any manner.
C.R.S. 27-2-108.5 reads, The right to display reasonably the flag of the United States shall not be infringed with respect to the display: (a) On an individuals person; (b) Anywhere on an individuals personal or real property. . .
I just gotta say it.
Cowards cut and run (and surrender). Marines never do.
From AG Suthers to Myla Shepard:
Myla, you ignorant slut ...
See my tagline.
www.NumbersUSA.comPhone your Senators one last time before the scheduled 9:30 a.m. vote on the Hagel amnesty. The Senate switchboard is 202-224-3121 . Key messages are: "The Hagel/Martinez substitute is 95% of the Judiciary Committee's amnesty that was voted down Thursday. Oppose the Hagel amnesty and vote NO on cloture that would bring the Hagel amnesty to a vote.
This offers an amnesty path to citizenship for nearly all the illegal aliens in this country. If you vote for cloture, your constituents will know that you have supported amnesty."
In all my years on FreeRepublic, I have not experienced as much despair over our future as I do now. I hope you join these organizations and set the FAXes and telephones burning before the Senate vote takes place.
Thank you . . . Penny
An excellent site. Highly recommended.
Thanks for the second. Of course, I also meant our future depends, not "depend." Best to you . . . Penny
>sigh<
Once again, freedom dies a little so freedom can survive. :-(
It's great that in this case, the funding was in the hands of the good guys...but...
: )
Good......now fire the b*tch! Maybe then she will give the American flag more consideration in her next position.
