More Damning Documents On Saddam ~Origins Of War:~~ Why won't Washington get the word out?

The latest in a stream of eye-opening Iraqi documents shows Saddam Hussein's regime was planning suicide attacks on U.S. interests six months before 9-11. Why won't Washington get the word out?

Last month the Pentagon began releasing records captured during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Among the documents is a letter dated March 11, 2001, written by Abdel Magid Hammod Ali, one of Saddam's air force generals.

According to an unofficial translation, Page 6 of the letter asks for "the names of those who desire to volunteer for suicide mission to liberate Palestine and to strike American interests."

Assuming the document's accuracy, this shows that Saddam's regime was not only providing aid and support for terrorist organizations of other countries. It was also planning its own bombings directed at U.S. facilities and personnel.

As counterterrorism consultant Dan Darling wrote last week on the Weekly Standard's Web site, that would mean Russian intelligence services under Vladimir Putin were better informed about Iraq's terrorist abilities than the U.S. spy community.

Though little noticed by the press, during a July 2004 visit to Kazakhstan the Russian president said that between 9-11 and the U.S. invasion of Iraq, "Russian special services and Russian intelligence several times received . . . information that official organs of Saddam's regime were preparing terrorist acts on the territory of the U.S. and beyond its borders, at U.S. military and civilian locations."

This new document, said Darling, "would seem to refute a long-standing contention among members of the U.S. intelligence community that Iraq ceased its involvement in international terrorism after its failed 1993 plot to assassinate former President George H.W. Bush." Darling cites former National Security Council official Richard Clarke's book "Against all Enemies," which contends that the NSC, the CIA and the FBI all agreed Iraq posed no terrorist threat to the U.S.

"reply from lefties"

They're scrambling. Obviously the evidence indicates the exact opposite of what they told you on the forum. I would bet that deep down the lefties know they're wrong. They are simply unable to recognize that Bush was right all along. It would be a shock to their system to admit that they've been wrong...again.

Osama Bin Laden

"This isn't about WMD, and it's obvious some Arab kook in the mountains of some remote backward 3rd world country poses no threat to our country."

It takes a big man or woman to admit when they are wrong. The left are just a bunch of wussies.

Not much has changed...because STILL too many sheeple get told what to think...by the old/liberal/socialist media.

It's equally mystifying as to why the Bush admin sits on these docs...

One can only hope that they are saving the best stuff for release right before the election. Strategery, ya know. I'm not holding my breath, however.

I reread that part of the post and it doesn't say Mylroie questioned the translation, it just says she supplied it. Looks like a clarification might be in order

"Saddam Hussein posed no threat to our country."

Did you tell the lefties that Saddam led an (thankfully failed) attempt to assassinate President Bush 41? An attempted assassination on our President is not an indication of a threat to our country?

The IBD editorial is unadulterated elitist bull sh!t. I have relatives who have been contacted by the US government to serve as translators. They have no specific experience other than being fluent in the language to be translated.

As to the ability to make sense of a series of documents by creating a time line and adding context...
I would put the analytical ability of Freepers against the whole stinking government intelligence community. Screw 'em. They blew it.

I am eager to see the other translations for the same document. You will notice that the differences if any will be very minor between my translation and what ever other translations they will post and it will have zero effect on the substance. For example instead of Suicide Mission as per my translation you may see Suicide Act as per other translations. You may notice some spelling errors in my translations that I fixed later on with the help of the Admin moderator.

If any translation will be different in substance form what I translated then that translation will be wrong and I will issue a challenge to the translator to explain his translation.

Let me understand this. Is IBD questioning the translations that are made by people like myself because I am called amateur and not a professional? Please let me know.

I don't think the criticism came from Laurie Mylroie but rather someone was criticising her (and CQ's) use of the translation.
