Heart of Texas Chapter April Meeting Planning Thread

Posted on 04/14/2006 12:09:14 PM PDT by DrewsDad

The Heart of Texas Chapter of FreeRepublic.com is looking to have a meeting this month. Saturday Evening, April 22nd or Sunday, 23rd look like the most promising times.

The location is a bit more up in the air.
Possibilities include:
Walburg(north of Georgetown - Exit 268)
Saltlick(SW of Austin in Driftwood)
Lockhart BBQ(20-30 miles SE of Austin)
Elgin Sausage/BBQ(East of Austin)
Spaghetti Warehouse(downtown Austin)
Ironworks(downtown Austin?)
Texas Roadhouse(I35 south of Austin/Slaughter)
(Insert you idea here)

Anyway, instead of me forcing a decision on everybody, I thought that I would open it up to local FReepers for their input on time and location.

If we have it on the 22nd and maybe near downtown, we could commemorate Earth Day with a short demonstration then head to an eating establishment. I was thinking we could meet somewhere near City Hall and burn a communist flag in honor of Lenin's 100th B-Day lining up with the 1st Earth Day in 1970. We could call for Saddam's execution since he is one of the worst polluters ever. Then we could drive our SUV's and consume massive amounts of food and drink.

It varies widely. I think we had about 15 for the last one in Walburg. We've met at the Gristmill in Gruene before as well.

I'm always down for going to Lockhart for BBQ (Black's) but I have a wedding to attend that weekend.

What? You'd miss out on fun and food with FReepers for a wedding?

Yeah. The worst FReepers could do to me is flame me in forum. Mrs. BJC can do much, much worse.

For that part of the family it starts Friday night (Batchelor party) and ends Sunday night when the band stops playing.

Prefer Saturday to Sunday, but could do either as long as it's after 2:00.

I like Spaghetti Warehouse, but am open to trying the Lockhart BBQ. Sunday is probably out for me.

No one has mentioned the Earth Day activities yet.
