Iran Declares War

President Ahmadinejad's letter to President Bush, widely interpreted as a peaceful overture, is in fact a declaration of war. The key sentence in the letter is the closing salutation. In an eight-page text of the letter being circulated by the Council on Foreign Relations, it is left untranslated and rendered as "Vasalam Ala Man Ataba'al hoda." What this means is "Peace only unto those who follow the true path."

It is a phrase with historical significance in Islam, for, according to Islamic tradition, in year six of the Hejira - the late 620s - the prophet Mohammad sent letters to the Byzantine emperor and the Sassanid emperor telling them to convert to the true faith of Islam or be conquered. The letters included the same phrase that President Ahmadinejad used to conclude his letter to Mr. Bush. For Mohammad, the letters were a prelude to a Muslim offensive, a war launched for the purpose of imposing Islamic rule over infidels.

"Don't parade your childlike ignorance for the public to ridicule...."

Oooohh thats harsh!

I thought that UBL had a similar warning go out? Anyways, could it be that this Iranian Kook-Nut, uses a slightly different playbook than UBL & Co.?

I guess if we were dealing with Islamofascists in general, then Operation Vlad would work along with Operations Lionheart and Martel.

As for unruly Persians, there's always Operation Khan.

Don't parade your childlike ignorance for the public to ridicule.

Rather full of yourself aren't you? Go peddle your incivility somewhere else, OK? If you want to have a civil discourse on agreements and disagreements regarding this topic, I'll be happy to oblige, but when you start out with drivel like your statement above, don't bother me OK. I don't stoop to your level.

Umar, the leader of the Muslim armies did the same thing. He sent King Yazdgird III of Persia a similar letter before conquering them in 632 AD.

Very interesting...it seems like more than a coincedence.

Those were attacks carried out by stateless groups on individual vulnerable targets, and the Muslims have never bothered to "warn" about those, any more than they warned about piracy or raids or their numerous other violent activities. This was because they weren't dealing with a leader and weren't interested in surrender, but simply in attacking something either for profit or as a form of terrorism.

Warnings were issued by a legitimate Islamic leader for an attack by upon another king, city or state. An "official" attack, so to speak. People are upset because this is probably the first occasion in modern times that an Islamic leader of a state has been nutty enough to do this (well, leaving aside their constant raving about Israel).

I usually think of it more as the scene in Independence Day where all the morons (read: Liberals) go up to the top of the building to welcome the Aliens. Then they are the first ones annihilated.

Yeah, but at least those people hadn't been listening to the aliens threatening to wipe out an entire nation for years, like the dipsticks in our current situation.

It's unnerving; I suppose people felt this way prior to WWII, when everybody knew something was going to happen, but not when or how.

But then, maybe nothing will happen. All we can do is just go on about our business (and not let the Dems get in charge again, because they would turn us over to Iran in an instant).

"This coded letter coupled with the new wipe out Israel comment today SHOULD have the CIA scrambling...."

They were, until they realized that it contained no classified information that could be leaked to undermine US Foreign Policy. ;-)

I am not impressed with the child molester Mohammad (piss be upon him) or the cult that has been following his path to hell.
The fruits of Islam IMO totally speaks for itself.
Abuse of women, kids and nothing comes from Islam outside of violence.

Moderate Islam is where a Muslim doesn't really practice their faith.
The best version of non violent Islam has been in America because they have to follow our laws or they know they will be featuring praying east in jail.

Door C: Very much like Door B, except that they just hate the Jews so much they don't think they get a warning.

air campaign like the first gulf war..saturate saturate then saturate even more..then even more...

Yep. Plink every tank and AFV. Carpet bomb every airbase and troop formation. Sink every ship. Destroy every bridge, every power station, every part of the infrastructure we can hit without serious collateral damage. Lather, rinse, repeat, until the Iranians either rise up against the imams or (more likely) the imams and Imanutjob have to choose between having nukes and having a nation.

President Ahmadinejad's letter to President Bush, widely interpreted as a peaceful overture

I must be busier than I thought, as I completely missed the boat on this one. While I haven't seen the actual letter, I never regarded it as a "peaceful Overture". Was the full translation of the letter published somewhere?

Stow it. There's no reason to accuse someone of "childlike ignorance" because they disagree with you on a minor point of Islamist tactical operations.

We are discussing a letter that gives one of the traditional Islamic warnings, and the source is a non-Al-Qaida source. It doesn't matter if A-Q didn't warn us before those attacks, this one is almost certainly a declaration of war.

(This coded letter coupled with the new wipe out Israel comment today SHOULD have the CIA scrambling....)

Sorry, but the CIA doesn't have enough man power. Most agents are already too busy trying to bring down the Bush administration....can't have a war on two fronts!
