U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) released the following statement:
I want to assure the American people that the cosponsors of the Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act, and the senators who worked to find a compromise last week that would have won the support of a substantial Senate majority remain totally committed to returning to this issue when the Senate returns from recess.
The public expects Congress to address comprehensively this national problem recognizing both the vulnerability of our inadequately protected borders and the need to allow an earned path to citizenship for the millions of undocumented immigrants who work here that substitutes fines, civic responsibilities such as paying back taxes and learning English, and a place at the back of the line for the de facto amnesty that exits under our current system.
This is a fair, practical and humane solution to the problem of illegal immigration that Im confident has the support of a majority of Americans and will have the support of well over sixty senators. In the Senate, no less than in the country at large, the majority will eventually prevail, and we are absolutely determined that it be sooner rather than later.
Why put a false headline there? McCain (to his credit, I'll add) is saying the same thing as Bush.
You have to be joking. The John McAmnesty bill would grant citizenship to all these invaders, and their families
The immigration groups are now arguing that the DUI and/or 3 misdemeanor disqualification list is too harsh.
this man is seriously delusional...
Pure BS. McCain is trying to appeal to conservatives, but they will never support him. McCain should be happy to keep his job in the Senate. The South will never vote for McCain.
He's talking about amnesty in those oh-so-clever code words like "path to citizenship."
God bless you John McCain!
John McCain is an opportunistic puke. He should shrivel up and blow away...
The sponser of the McAmnesty bill has the stones to bald-faced lie like this?
Unbelievable.
Exactly!
I agree. Mckook ain't gettin' this Conservatives vote, and the President is far more Conservative than McKook and his sidekick Lindsey!
LLS
John McCain's mouth is open......John McCain is lieing.
The bullshit has just begun.
No doubt he will push for immigration "freform"
I feel the title is very misleading.
Consistency? I think not.
Oooops, sorry 'bout the typo "freform"=REFORM
Are you smoking dope? McCain is one of the punks who designed the "breakthrough" bill that would have been everything amnesty advocates dream of.
He has credibility on this issue like Bil Clinton has credibility on staying faithful to one's spouse.
I think you're misreading what McCain says in this article.
He's pushing FOR amnesty for illegal aliens, not against it.
He merely suggests that they need to be put in line for citizenship after those who have already applied.
This is the same crap he's been saying all along, and despite the title that was posted, it's pretty much what Bush is pushing for as well.
Hey McLame: You can't go to the "back of the line" and remain here in America.
So stop being a phony fraud. And stop distorting the English language by claiming to be 'straight talk' because you are anything butt.
Sincerely, the American public.
