Base Doesn't Trust Bush on Illegal Immigration
Real Clear Politics ^ | May 20, 2006 | Tom Bevan

Posted on 05/21/2006 5:52:55 AM PDT by kellynla

Here's the irony of President Bush's speech to the nation on Monday night about the need for comprehensive immigration reform: If he had given the exact same speech two or three years ago, many conservatives would have been quite pleased. Not today. The reaction to Bush's speech among conservatives was, to put it kindly, less than favorable. The base of the party may still like this president, but they don't trust him when it comes to dealing with illegal immigration.

Why not? For one thing, President Bush has done plenty of talking about illegal immigration before but is perceived to have done little by way of follow-through. For another, two of the major points in the plan outlined by Bush Monday night (enforcing existing laws and the deploying National Guard troops to assist border control efforts) don't require congressional action. Bush could have given orders to do either of these things at any point during the last few years, but didn't.

Bush did his best to address the concerns of the "enforcement first" crowd by spending close to half his time Monday night dealing with the issue of border security. The details of Bush's proposal are substantial: 6,000 new border patrol agents brought on line over the next two years (a 50 percent increase), up to 6,000 National Guard troops deployed to border states in the interim to provide logistical assistance such as surveillance and construction, an increase in federal grants to border states to expand local law enforcement operations, and a significant upgrade in technology deployed along the border to enhance our ability to locate, apprehend, process and deport those trying to enter the country illegally.

The president has supported building a wall for over a year now, so if you have problems with the fact that a wall hasn't been built, take it up with Congress. He supported Sensenbrenner's suggestion to build a 700 mile wall, but Congress rejected it. Bush even signed legislation which funded the wall.

http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2005/5/3/115432.shtml

As an aside, although there are complaints that under this administration, employer fines have decreased for hiring illegal immigration, what seems to have gone unnoticed by the border hysterics is that it's because what was once a fine is now a CRIME.

Some of the Governors don't want a fence. Why don't you attack them?
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=48017

And it is within the power of each Governor to call up the National Guard to defend the borders. But some Governors are opposed to that idea too.

And for those who are saying the war in Iraq is making it impossible for our National Guard to protect the country here, there are over 300,000 National Guardsmen and only 30,000 are in Iraq or Afghanistan.

The Base will trust him more when:

-the 11 million ILLEGALS are sent back to Mexico.

-the GOP wakes up to the real problem--FIX MEXICO.

-Bush understands that 11 million people dumped on Vincente Fox's doorstep will bring about reform, including US companies investing south of the border.

What? You mean we CAN'T send 11 million people across the border?

Mexico did.

If we lose control of the house, Pelosi would be the Speaker of the House and in line for to be President if GW was impeached and a similiar fate for Dick Cheney. The nightmare timeline is shown below if the Rats gain control of Congress:

Shooting of American Women in Blue Burkas Timeline:

1. November 2006: Walk on water conservatives enable rats to take over congress. Nancy Pelosi becomes the Speaker of the House in January 2007.

2. February 2007: Rat controlled Congress cut funds to fight war in Iraq and Afghanistan.

3. March 2007: America starts to pull out troops from Iraq, Afghanistan and Middle East due to lack of funding.

4. April/May 2007: As American troops leave Iraq and Afghanistan, the Islamofascists begin the slaughter of millions of innocents as per us leaving Nam history.

5. May/June 2007: Rats in control of the house, start impeachment proceedings against GW with help of walk on water conservatives.

6. Early Summer 2007: Leaky Leahy and Ted Kennedy disband NSA and all military intel operations and replace them with Mary McTraitor and her web of rats. She is made the new director of the CIA as General Hayden is found guilty of treason for daring to spy on al Qaeda.

Pelosi’s New CIA immediately closes down any conservative web site. Jim and John Robinson are arrested for treason, and the names and email addresses of all Freepers are seized by the New CIA. The new CIA raids the RNC office and Republican Offices in all states, counties and cities. The names and addresses of registered voters and in particular all donors are seized. Many are arrested at that time and sent to the new and enlarged Gitmo prisons staffed and managed by Castro’s people.

Ted and Patches Kennedy ram through the new Rat Controlled Congress, a bill outlawing the ownership of any gun. Pelosi, gleefully signs the bill and announces the hiring of thousands of Gays forced out the military as a new police force to enforce the new law. People have two weeks to turn their legal guns in or be shot for owning a gun.

The primary targets of this new bill were any Republican or Conservative blogger who owned a gun. They were hunted down exterminated over the summer with the exception of the few who fled to Mexico. Freepers and Conservative Bloggers, who owned guns, were hunted and killed, their homes burnt and their families were sent to re learning centers.

7. Summer of 2007: American Stock market tanks as rats pass enormous spending bills and repeal GW tax cuts. Gold bugs are elated as Gold passes $1,000 per ounce. $inators Finestein and Boxer take over control of all American Oil Companies and stop all drilling in America. All American refineries are shut down and only gasoline imported from Cuban refineries using Opecker and S America oil is allowed to be sold. Severe rationing is put in for anyone who is not a member of the Elite Rat Limo Power Players.

8. Late Summer early Fall: Congress passes new taxes limiting the income of any corporation to 4% per year. Senate hearings are held and indictments are served to any execs of any corporation which made over 4% profit since GW was sworn in as president in 2001. Millions of Americans lose their jobs unless they are mining for gold as the evil corporations cut their workers to stay in business.

9. Fall/Winter 2007: The worse depression since Hoover begins in earnest with the Dow below 4000, and of course it is GW's Fault.

10. January/February 2008: The evil GW is removed from office impeached by the rats and happy walk on water conservatives. VP Cheney goes to jail for being associated with Haliburton on charges brought about by Fitzmas. Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the House becomes President.

11. February to May 2008: President Pelosi and the rat controlled congress to prevent future wars, disband the Army, Navy/Marine Corps and Air Force. The Coast Guard is kept, and any Republicans are forced out. Nancy puts her Girly Boys from San Francisco in charge of the Coast Guard. The first thing they do is have all guns removed from the Coastie ships and men, and all the Coastie ships and boats are painted with the Gay Rainbow.

12. Late May 2008: President Pelosi disbands the Border Guards and replaces them with Social Service Workers to sign up anyone at any border for free food, medical care, drivers licenses with no tests, a social security card and a lifetime DNC voting card.

13. Summer of 2008: Riots break out over America as Walk on Water Conservatives continue blame to GW for what happened. They find themselves as targets of many rioters who blame them. No one has guns or knives, so rocks and clubs are the weapons of the street.

14. The rest of Summer 2008: The Dow drops below 500 as increased taxes and the Enviralist Eco Terrorists dominate what is left of the business world. The only people with jobs are the rats in government and those rolls are increasing each day. The only stocks that are thriving are the Rat Fascist controlled companies which own what was left of the MSM. Required viewing of Rat TV and movies and required reading of the Fish wraps with pop quizzes with serious consequences for those who fail, send those stocks soaring. Interest rates make the Jimmy Carter years look like a good deal.

15. September 11, 2008: With no US military, no real Coast Guard and no real border patrol to be afraid of, Bin Laden has the born again al Qaeda Hero's take out Seattle, San Francisco, LA, Las Vegas, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Dallas, Miami, Atlanta, Boston and NYC. Washington DC is spared so President Pelosi can surrender the nation to Bin Laden before it is destroyed. Iran and North Korea supplied the bombs and China and Russia provided the transportation and how to knowledge.

16. September 12, 2008, President Pelosi unconditionally surrenders to Bin Laden. Immediately all American Flags over what is left of the nation are lowered for the last time and burnt.

17. September 13, 2008, Blue Burkas become mandatory dress code for every female in America. Any male not killed immediately, is taken away to some slave labor camp.

18. September 14, 2008, the new al Qaeda sport of shooting women in America in Blue Burkas in stadiums in what is left of America becomes the new national sport. First they are gang raped in Islamo style and then shot like the one below:

Your links tell the story, but how many angry people will take the time to calmly read and comprehend this material?

The latest howls are about retroactive Social Security for illegals. What a crock...who thinks Pedro the busboy drafted such an obscene proposal? Some commie pinko legislative aide put that up as a "make the puppets dance" ploy. McCain and Kennedy have a common goal for the United States, and they joined on this issue to make it work:

I have no doubt that the president expects the 11 year transition to be pared down or declared illegal sometime after his presidency. He's been around DC long enough to know how things happen. I like Bush a lot and am glad for a number of his accomplishments. The "illegals" issue could undo everything.

I have an issue with Immigration and Congress in general.

Members of congress have shown us time and again that they are incapable of meaningful, focused action for the resolution of key issues in any ethical or intelligent way. You are well aware of the issues; immigration, energy, welfare, Social Security and Medicare, a tax system that is overly complicated and filled with inequities, and a budget that is grossly inflated with pork.

Immigration and naturalization issues are a good example of poor performance by Congress. Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution of the United States, gives Congress and Congress alone, the power to establish the rules, laws, and procedures to straighten out immigration and naturalization issues. The laws that are on the books need to be enforced, and funding provided to support security of our country and its borders. It seems to me, and I think you will agree, that the will of the citizens of our country is fairly obvious, illegal marchers not withstanding. Yet all I see is vacillation, procrastination, and subterfuge in the political ways of our senators and representatives. No one seems willing to actually do something, anything—other than spend our money of course.

Energy, Medicare, Social Security, our tax system, pork politics, and welfare are among other major issues that need congressional action and resolution before they become an overwhelming weight on our resources and security. If lasting solutions are not found, we shall slowly but surely sink into a national peat bog, from which, it may take generations to recover.

Why should Bush like any of the others care? They don't have to. They will ride off into the sunset with their really nice little lifestyles leaving the rest of us to twist in the wind. Honestly, I don't see how any of these people can sleep at night. The Clintons should be in jail and has anything ever been done with all the evidence out there? Not one little whisper. No, instead they let these two low lifes and many others become rich.

Unfortunately the message out there now is be a crook, liar, scum, rapist, thief, etc. And the more you hate and join agenda and agenda groups you will be a winner. How very, very sad for a country that fought so hard to overcome many obsticles to become free so that our spineless and corrupt government and businesses and sick people like Soros could bring it down. Sorry if I have missed any scum buckets. It's just too, too sad.

But believe it or not, it has made my faith much stronger and I feel one day that faith will win over this I suppose you call it evil.

The thread jumping border hysterics won't read the links, that's for sure.

I've posted this dozens of times and apologize to anyone who has read this previously.

Jim Robinson wrote the foreward for a book Hillary's Secret War. Free Republic is featured in the book, as are other conservative web sites. The book details how during the 90's, the web site owner was able to trace where posters were posting from. And amazingly enough, we had a lost of posters pretending to be conservative who were posting from the Cinton White House, The Washington Post, etc.

These people are opinion shapers. They come to web sites like this one, establish screen names and then don't post much until they find a wedge issue and then start posting in order to drive down support for Republicans.

We're seeing a lot of that here today.

Conservatives don't cut and run the way these posters are and they don't speak the way a large number of these posters speak.

Bush budget scraps 9,790 border patrol agents
President uses law's escape clause to drop funding for new homeland security force

Michael Hedges, Houston Chronicle

Wednesday, February 9, 2005

Washington -- The law signed by President Bush less than two months ago to add thousands of border patrol agents along the U.S.-Mexico border has crashed into the reality of Bush's austere federal budget proposal, officials said Tuesday.

Officially approved by Bush on Dec. 17 after extensive bickering in Congress, the National Intelligence Reform Act included the requirement to add 10,000 border patrol agents in the five years beginning with 2006. Roughly 80 percent of the agents were to patrol the southern U.S. border from Texas to California, along which thousands of people cross into the United States illegally every year.

But Bush's proposed 2006 budget, revealed Monday, funds only 210 new border agents.

The shrunken increase reflects the lack of money for an army of border guards and the capacity to train them, officials said.

Retired Adm. James Loy, acting head of the Department of Homeland Security until nominee Michael Chertoff takes over, said funding only 210 new agents was a "recognition that we need to balance those things as we go on down the road with other priorities."

The White House referred questions about the border agents to the Homeland Security Department.

The law signed by Bush had a caveat that went virtually unreported at the time. A summary, published by the Senate Government Affairs Committee, required the government to increase the number of border patrol agents by at least 2,000 per year, "subject to available appropriations."

Democrats were unhappy that the proposed budget used the escape clause so soon after the president approved the huge boost in border agents.

"We know we must do more to shore up security along our borders," said Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, top Democrat on the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee. "The president's budget does not even attempt to meet this challenge."

Some Republicans also were displeased.

"This is an area of homeland security that needs to be ramped up in order to increase surveillance and patrols of our nation's vast and often remote borders," said Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, chair of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

A Jan. 24 letter signed by leading Republican lawmakers implored the president to fully fund the new law "in order to secure our borders against infiltration by terrorists."

The lead signer was Rep. James Sensenbrenner, R-Wis., chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and a leader of GOP efforts to toughen immigration laws and anti-terrorism statutes.

This nonsense of voting for the "lesser evil" don't fly no mo'. My vote is too precious and has cost too many lives for me to throw away on somebody that doesn't stand for my values.
When is your vote gonna mean something to you? When You hvae to choose between a Hitler and a Mussolinii? Which was more evil? My friends it is a slippery slope when we start dropping the bar on our qualifications for OUR VOTE!

What? You mean we CAN'T send 11 million people across the border?

I hear that it would be impossible...ridiculous.

However; we can fine them all, get them all to pay back taxes, and get all their names on the list to become citizens. But round them up.....

The Texas Rangers was originally founded for the sole purpose of securing the border between the two nations of Texas and Mexico...and they did a real good job.

Bush was governor of Texas, and did squat.

An older border fence constructed from scrap metal in 1993 was credited with an 88 percent drop in illegal immigration along the 14-mile length of border it protected.

In the 12 years since, however, the 10-foot-tall fence has deteriorated, leaving substantial gaps through which illegals now enter.

The White House-backed measure would finish construction of a much more formidable 14-foot-tall secondary fence, which was previously blocked due to environmental concerns.
----

But by all means, let's move the goal posts now and start complaining "But the president has supported building a fence, not a wall".

You border hysterics are a joke.

Part of the distrust is coming from the new parsing, nuancing and 'linguistic precision':

T Snow: It isn't amnesty. Honest. It really isn't --- because we say it isn't

Mr. Snow should review the provisions of the 1986 Bill which was called amnesty and which provided for fines, moving in line for green cards, forgiveness/pardons, etc.

Sorting out how Bush is mollifying certain factions and handling others is code talk for how he is "tiptoeing" around not doing the job.
All the "inside -the-Beltway'"talk will not cover up the fact for the so-called "Base" and all others that we are in a disastrous situation and one that grows worse with each passing day.

So far, the press has compartmentalized the Global War On Terror from the Illegal Immigration Mess, but the inevitable interconnectedness of all things will simply not allow for such tidy separations.

And whether it may or may not be a small part of the GWOT, being overrun by millions of undocumented aliens is not just alarming, it is unquestionably a clear opportunity for infiltration of our vital defenses by our Terrorist Enemy. Ignoring this fact is tantamount to aiding and abetting our enemies "in time of war"...treason.

If it was not as serious as it is,the apparent "blindness" to the totally one-sided callousness exhibited by Vincente Fox and the "Shadow Mexican Government" would be an outrageous comedy routine on Saturday Nite Live. How in the world can this situation be so roundly ignored?

Add the unprecedented almost total lack of unity apparent in the MSM coverage of "ordinary political dealings " in the country today and we have a situation with the potential to far overshadow the 911 disaster and quite literally bring this country down for good.

This is no make believe game. We are in real jeapardy and it's time we wake up. Our leadership has abandoned us.

I can count on one hand who in DC represents my point of view. They are all in bed together . Power mad and concerned with personal wealth , the average working American be damned . I'm disgusted at this point. WHO REPRESENTS US ANYMORE ????????

I can't speak to thread jumpers, trolls or DNC plants. Are you inferring that kellynla is a plant? Questioning Freepers like him make me think you are the plant, rather than the other way around.

The DemocRATs and the Republicans have failed to do what the American people want. This has been the case for years and the politicians act this way for money (as in campaign contributions from the cheap labor lobby [on the Repub side] or they are trolling for votes as on the RAT side. It's a perfect political storm and you and I are the ones getting screwed.

I am a life-long California and have been campaigning for Republicans since I rode my bike down my street in 1960 with a Goldwater sign on it so don't start calling me a "pretend conservative." Now let me remind you of what the conservative position is on illegal immigration...

Secure our borders.
Deport the illegals.
No amnesty.
English is our national language.

Please note that large portions of this agenda are already the law of our land. What has been missing from the Bush administration has been ACTION on the issue of illegal immigration. The Federal government already has many of the tools and resources necessary to significantly reduce the number of illegals in the US. Leadership and will are what is lacking (and to be fair this has been true since before GWB was elected President). Americans have consistently wanted an enforcement based policy and the consensus has existed for years. Yet the problem grows worse year by year. Conservatives are frustrated and being made cynical by Bush administration inaction and doublespeak.

It's so interesting to see that freepers have NOTHING to say to those Governors who don't want the National Guard on their borders.

Governors could have called up the National Guard at any time during the last 25 years and they haven't. Do you condemn them? Not even once.

The president has talked about a wall for over 2 years. He funded the wall. Funded it!

Does he get credit for that? No.

You thread jumper border hysterics are a joke. Do I think you're all trolls and opinion shapers? Not at all. But to deny what Jim Robinson clearly knows about opinion shapers and trolls is to put your head in the sand.

Bush even signed legislation which funded the wall.

The wall? Such dishonesty.

"Bush recently authorized the completion of a 14-mile fence and concrete barrier along the border near San Diego."

Peach the ones who are what you refer to or as the book you mentioned refers to as "opinion shapers" (I will get the book today at B&N, you piqued my interest) are pretty obvious don't you think?

Sometimes they get downright ugly. I shudder at some of the rhetoric, I am strong on the border, illegal alien issue but there are times when the dissenters will take something I said innocently and turn it around to meet their agenda.

I may disagree strongly with Specter/Mccain/Kennedy and Hagel/Martinez bills
but it balances out with the good guys like Cornyn, Hutchison, Hayworth, Sessions, Kyl, Tancredo etc.

I refuse to "throw the baby out with the bathwater" bottom line.

(any post I may have made in anger consider temporary insanity ;)

Rep. Charlie Norwood is on Meet the Press right now. Even he, who is very adament that illegal immigration must be resolved, isn't calling for mass deportation but rather attrituion.

It must really disturb "freepers" that very few politicians, if any, are calling for deportation of illegals.

Yes, stopem, they are quite obvious. And it's just darned sad that freepers don't know when they're being played.

You'll enjoy the book; it will teach you a lot about how web sites like this attract leftists who for years pretend to be conservative all while creating dissent among Republicans.

Immigration Reform 1986 2006

a replay of the 1986 Simpson-Mazzoli bill

The Senate proposes: you're out of here if you have one felony or three misdemeanors.

Well of course none will be charged with document fraud, ID theft, tax fraud, or any laws broken to date just my being here and working illegally.

Just another immigration "reform" law to ignore. Ho hum.

The countdown to November continues.

. . . demoralizing the group of people your party needs most to win in November is a dangerous move.
