HILL DRIVE FOR '55' ( National Maximum Speed Limit )
New York Post ^ | May 24, 2006 | IAN BISHOP

Posted on 05/24/2006 3:25:12 PM PDT by george76

- In a surprise move yesterday, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton called for "most of the country" to return to a speed limit of 55 mph in an effort to slash fuel consumption...

"The 55-mile speed limit really does lower gas usage.

And wherever it can be required, and the people will accept it, we ought to do it," Clinton said at the National Press Club.

I drive a v-8 chevy four wheel drive with five speed manual and I can get better ratio results than that. Do you use cruise control or heavy foot?

oh great...the Feds woudld hold road funds hostage again to get the states to comply

Hmmmm....maybe somebody could remind me here. Which Secretary of Transportation held federal funds hostage to get the states to agree to seat belt laws? Which Secretary of Transportation held federal funds hostage to get the states to agree to raising the drinking age? Which Secretary of Transportation worked against her own administration to try and maintain the 55 mph nationwide? What party did that Secretary of Transportation eventually become a Senator for again? Because she didn't become Senator of a state. I don't think she knows where her 'home state' is..

January '74. Nixon resigned later that year.

"The 55-mile speed limit really does lower gas usage.

So does walking every place you go.

Yeah, no kidding! Spoken as someone who doesn't have a clue as to the value of time in business, eh. I often drive for a living and on a typical 6 hour trip I can save an hour.

Same thing w/ idiot libs recommending these smaller cars. If I tried to cram myself into those damned things I'd probably have three accidents a year from not being able to move my legs in time to hit the breaks. People much over 6 feet tall need larger cars. Simple common sense.

Either way, let the witch keep talking. The only people she's gonna turn her way with talk like that are those already voting for her. Pataki won NYS b/c he promised to put the limits to the newly allowed federal 65s back then. Hillary won't make gains with this.

Then again, watch "Mr. Conservative" George W. jump on this "in the spirit of bipartisanship." GAG!

And why 55? Why not 40?!

40's supposedly the optimal speed +/- for most cars.

How 'bout some mandatory limits for Congressmen.

One foot on the brake
And one on the gas, hey!

When that song comes on the radio (and it is still a daily staple on the local Classic Rock station) I often wonder if the young kids who hear it have any idea what ole' Sammy was singing about!

Soon they may learn!

I have been back and forth on the East end for work, but only a couple of times. Not as pretty as the west end, but still nice.

I recently took a trip from North Alabama to Gatlinburg, Tn.

I drove in the 70-74 mph range.

I got over 40 mpg in a 13 year-old 4-door Honda.

I don't need Hillary Clinton adding an extra hour of driving time on my vacation trips to the mountains FOR NO REASON. My vehicle would have gotten the same mileage at 55 that it would have at 70.

Good tagline. Saw this morning that Ward didn't want anyone from the Law School on his panel because he thinks they don't like him. Of course, like most law schools, CU's is full of liberals, but they are trained in the principles of evidence and how to sift fact from fiction.

She likely cares about Ohio.

Yep. Interesting how Ohio has been a key state in the Prez sweepstakes since the Civil War. Dunno how people there feel about the double-nickel.

Thanks.

This is classic Ward...

"The stinging report that became public last week rejected Churchill's assertion that there are different research standards for ethnic studies scholars. "

The recommendation that she limit the speed of per private jet to 55 mph at 40,000 feet seems fair.

I still hate DST. I figured I'd just hate it initially when Mitch shoved it down our throats. But I'm still not used to it. It doesn't work here. And hopefully in a couple of years, neither will he.

The committee didn't go there, but IMHO, the ethnic studies schools aren't real academic disciplines, but just places where radical lefties dress up their politics as so-called academics.

The ethnic studies should be, at most, a one semester social studies course.

It should not be a whole department.
