An Awakening
Anitius Severinus Boethius | 05/24/06 | Anitius Severinus Boethius

I have seen the light! I am reborn! I realize now that I have been a RINO, a wimp, a Republican and not a True Conservative.

I had been laboring under the impression that since it has taken 60+ years of liberal small steps to get to the point we are at now, it would take decades of conservative small steps to get back to a more conseravative view of government. I was wrong. We can do it now, and all at once.

You see, when we got 2 new Justices on the Supreme Court, I thought that was good. But it wasn't. We needed 7 new Justices and the fact that Bush hasn't pushed Stevens, Ginsberg, Kennedy, Breyer and Souter to resign publically and often is evidence that he is just a RINO and not a True Conservative.

When we got tax cuts, and then made them permanent, I thought that was a good thing. But it wasn't. We needed a complete abolishment of the IRS and a repealing of the income tax. The fact that the idea is gaining support in Congress isn't good enough, we needed it 20 years ago, so it is too little, too late and every Republican from then to now is just a RINO (except Ronald Reagan, Ron Paul, Tom Tacredo, whoever else I decide to excuse because I like them).

I thought that waging a War on Terror was a good thing. Well, I still think it is, but Bush is still a RINO for some reason because of this as well.

I thought that an economy growing at a very fast rate, an unemployment rate under 5%, a stock market that has not only rebounded from the Clinton crash but also had to endure 9/11 at the same time was a good thing. But it wasn't. China sells us goods and we pay them slave wages. Somehow that means our economy is in trouble, kind of confusing, but it's the fault of those RINOs somehow, so they are not True Conservatives.

I thought that John Bolton going to the UN was a good thing. But it wasn't. It just showed that Bush was too weak to kick the UN out of our country and too much of a pansy to not slap Jacques Chirac. Again, this means Bush is a RINO.

You see, I had once believed that we lived in a Representative Republic where the majority of those who cared to vote selected who would govern them. The fact that most of our elected officials were spineless, ignorant, self-serving, manipulative men and women who were "moderate" (read: wishy-washy) on almost every issue was due to the fact that most of the people who voted for them exhibit the same fine qualities. I thought, therefore, that the lesser of two evils was the best choice. I further thought that just a few extra votes here and there could tip the balance of a few votes per year leading us slowly, but steadily, into a repair of the damage done to us by liberals over the last 6 decades.

Boy was I wrong. You see, the lesser of two evils is still evil. Those who don't have the courage to get it all done at once are cowards and wimps. Any failure in one area supercedes any successes in all other areas. The fact that there are millions of willfully ignorant, casual voters who can't name the Vice President is irrelevant.

Because I have learned the secret: If I close my eyes and wish really hard, then my one vote will cancel out millions of others because my heart will be pure! Then I will bring America to my own vision and we will all be True Conservatives!

Utterly brilliant. Very very well written. I wish I had said it.

Because I have learned the secret:

The "secret" is that there is really only one political party in America...the "Status Quo Party". The two pretend parties are engaged in nothing more than a massive game of "Good Cop / Bad Cop", all intended to keep the American people off balance as they are shorn like sheep on a regular basis.

Nothing you need to bother yourself with. We know how diffcult it is for some of you to grasp higher concepts. Isn't it time for you to go tune into Lou Dobbs to recieve your instructions on what to be upset about today?

That's good but you've disenfranchised the "Real Conservatives".

Ah I see! The massive increases in spending and utter lack of fiscal discipline, the medicare entitlement, the open borders, all just a clever bit of strategery! Bush is misunderestimated again, but this time by his alleged supporters!

Real Conservatives are just a splinter group of the True Conservatives and are to be regarded as more dangerous than Hillary.

It's because not enough True Conservatives wished hard enough before voting.

After nominating Harriet Meiers, I've concluded that Bush isn't a RINO, he's just another patronage-granting pol.

Doubling the budget of the Department of Education was a good start. Pushing through a $500 billion prescription drug benefit that will cost us literally trillions was a great step forward. Legalizing 20 million foreign citiznes on our shores will be a great next step. Allowing them to bring over a number of close relatives each is going to be the icing on that cake.

I can't wait until we have five times the number of recent immigrants we do today. I can't wait to see the education costs, the healthcare costs, the welfare costs...

Yep, Rome wasn't built in a day alright. It didn't crumble in a day either. That's why I take one look at today's Republicans as ask, what's the hurry? Can't we drag out our decline longer than this?

You're not the only Republican asking themselves questions these days. Despite some good, we've made some major strides backwards and to the left. That sucks big-time!

All this with a clear majority in the Executive and Legislative branches of our government. God forbid we should lose some seats. I can't even start to imagine how bad it would be if these stalwart Republicans weren't in the majority.

Well said. Most of the 'Real Conservatives' here are still upset that Pat Buchanan isn't president.

Gee see Mike Pence is offering up legislation that includes a Guest Worker Program? Guess you will have to find a new tag line since by your standards he too is not a "Conservative" anymore. Hmm. Let see, who DOES that leave in the 100%er's world who is not now a "Traitor"? Guess that just leaves you all back where you started. With Pat Buchanan and less then 1% of the vote. Boy when you only will accept 100% of ONLY what you want, sure is hard to find ANYONE you can vote for now.

The CBO said that the tax cuts would result in lower revenues. They were wrong. But I should believe their projections about other issues?

Ok.
