The UN’s war on guns

— July 4 is the quintessential American holiday. It is a boisterous celebration of the birthing of the U.S. and the wonderful independence which has made our great nation the most powerful and influential country this world has ever known.

This independence could never have come about were it not for firearms. Our forefathers were liberty-hungry upstarts who utilized their skills as marksmen to overthrow an oppressive government. Knowing full well that arming of citizens is necessary for the maintenance of liberty and peace by offering the ability to fend off not only potential invaders but future oppression as well, these great men later put into law that we as Americans have an inalienable right to bear arms. Firearms, in essence, are an integral part of Americana. That is why it can perceived to be a slap in the face that the United Nations will be conducting its Small Arms Review Conference here, on American soil, during the July 4 holiday. The UN, which is supposedly the catalyst of universal freedom, is holding this annual conference as a means to determine methods by which to disarm common people from the world over. They want to disarm them not only of justifiably-maligned assault rifles, but also of the pistols, rifles, and shotguns which are a welcome part of leisure pursuits and are vital to the protection of home and family.

By doing so, the UN would not be making the world a safer place. Taking firearms out of the hands of citizens and leaving militaries and police-states as the only armed entities (besides criminals) takes “accountability” out of the hands of governments that have oppressive tendencies. Such dictatorial and militant regimes murdered nearly 170 million people in the last century and the only way to prevent such tyranny and maintain personal liberty is through gun ownership.

Through the insinuation that America should follow suit with these anti-gun demands - best exemplified by the disrespectful scheduling of this event - the UN is lumping us in with these evil, murderous lands. We as Americans fortunately know better. Our nation is the model for personal liberty and what it results in: an unyielding success in capitalistic and cultural endeavors. There is very little that is oppressive of U.S. rule.

If anything, the U.S. should be the best example of the positives of gun ownership.

But, it can’t be. This attack on human rights is widely promoted amongst the UN’s rank and file through the use of spin. Focusing on urban murder rates, America’s drug culture, and Hollywood’s glorification of gun violence (which is disseminated throughout the world), they are keen on painting America as the poster child for necessary firearm reform.

Though believed by many, such spin is nonfactual and biased. It is using criminal events – not lawful activities – and fictional entertainment to define the usage of guns. The vast majority of gun usage is in direct contrast to such propaganda.

Such anti-American sentiment is par for the course with the UN. Kofi Annan and his ilk always seem to be against the U.S., possessive of a veritable feeling of jealousy. This disdain is created by the fact that we succeed where the UN fails as the world’s police force. The UN and its pedestrian mentalities allow the world to collapse around us, and typically it is the US that steps up to the plate to save it. We use power kinetically, not potentially.

All Americans should be disappointed if not disgusted with what the holier-than-thou UN wants to do with us and our guns. Our Constitution gave us rights that they want to take away. As proponents of the One World Order mentality, they want the entire world to be as one, eliminating the sovereignty that makes each independent nation unique unto itself. By striving to take firearms away from all, they are taking this mentality to the extreme, and ultimately ensuring oppression that is global in scale.

Perhaps. Although recently I have come to wonder...if the government claims that it would be "impossible" to round up and deport 12 million illegal aliens, just how the heck are they going to take the guns away from 100 million citizens?

My husband remembers when the UN was formed. He said that no good came from it then, and it hasnt improved any. There are times that I would love to give up on the world, but I have no other place to go.

" with some assistance (or so I understand) from the national guard at checkpoints."

The guard raided houses, whether anyone was home, or not.

Well, then, just forswear opression and they'll have nothing to worry about (and sleep better at night).

My opinion has always been: They can outlaw them all they want...but actually trying to take them is going to be a whole lot harder.

Tell us more about outlying parishes which the NOLA police hesitated to raid for citizens' guns.

This is an untold story!

When the rubber meets the road I'd like to see the UN attempt to control the use of those parks...they won't be able to.

Two things: First and foremost 12 25 million Mexicans are NO THREAT TO THE GOVERNMENT. They are a threat to the rest of us in terms of jobs and culture, but that many welfare suckers empower government that much more.

Secondly, 100 million Americans won't resist. 99% will just hand them over if asked (100% in new england) leaving about 1,000,000 who will hang on to them, and of these, 95% wil probably surrender when the gun gestapo comes knocking on the door in the middle of the night. As you might have gathered I have a low opinion of the importance of freedom to my fellow Americans.

Example, About 10 years ago Ga's local gun owners rights group held a rally on the capital steps (state capital) on a Saturday morning prior to the opening of the legislature for the year. We called 3000 people (our total member base), put a couple of adds on radio, and even put an ad in the marietta paper (never the Atlanta paper) the Atl metro area consists of about 4 million people. 140 showed up.

Contrast this with the size group who met Colonel Smith's troops in Concord when he was doing what the NO police did. 6000 armed militia attacked Smith's troops. This is 6000 people when the entire population of the colonies was estimated to be 2.5 million.

Love of freedom in America is dead and has been replaced by the culture of government dependency.

They sleep just fine at night. To their mentality YOU are a criminal for wanting to be armed. They are the "elite" the only ones entitled to be armed. If you don't believe me see how many cops have been prosecuted for killing or wounding citizens in the last 10 years. Even in the most egregious cases it has always been ruled a "good shoot"

Our Constitution gave us rights that they want to take away.
Nice sentiments, but the Constitution gives no rights. It's supposed to protect unalienable rights.
That mindset needs to end!

More of a non-story, actually. The surrounding parishes have their own local governments and police departments - the NOPD lacks jurisdiction there.

I could give detailed description of what happened where and when, but the following map and link show the way the area was affected.

As far as why unconstitutional firearm seizures did not occur in other parishes damaged by Katrina (especially St. Bernard, which was flooded worst of all), the red and blue electoral map tells the tale. I don't have a link to that handy, but Orleans is blue - the surrounding parishes very red indeed.

Why, it's almost as though right-minded people got the hell out of that urban hellhole and relocated to the area surrounding the city, huh? Imagine that. ;^)

Actually depending on the type, it could be either. My M1A falls into one catagory while my M40 falls into the other.
