Cannon Wins, America Loses... But We're Still Optimistic
Team America PAC ^ | 06/28/2006 | Bay Buchanan

Posted on 06/28/2006 11:33:08 AM PDT by NapkinUser

After a huge push from the illegal alien lobby, Chris "King of Amnesty" Cannon defeated Team America endorsed Candidate John Jacob 56-44% in Utah's 3rd congressional district. While we are obviously disapointed in the result, the campaign was still a victory for the cause of secure borders. Cannon accredits his win to "extremists" who backed Jacob (i.e. us) and turned off voters. This couldn't be further for the truth. If he didn't have to hide from his pro-illegal record, Cannon would have coasted to victory. In order to defeat a political novice, Cannon had to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars out of his own pocket and from his corporate cronies, engage in a smear campaign against us and Jacob, lie about his pro-illegal record, and solicit support from George W and Laura Bush. The pro-amnesty lobby cannot afford to do this for every one of their politicians. While Cannon managed to slip by us this time, the lesson of this campaign is clear: if you want an easy reelection: secure our borders and oppose amnesty. Team America will be targeting other pro-amnesty candidates in the near future. READ MORE

But Dane, you predicted that what with Jacob being a novice, making misteps, and being a single-issue candidate, that Cannon would receive over 60%. Chris "Landslide" Cannon only got 55.8%. How come so little?

56% is not bad especially since Cannon had a well funded challenger(although satan got in the way of him getting more money).

The big story though is the low turnout. With the massive local and national publicity, the Utah voters gave a big yawn to the "immigration referendum", that even tancredo/bay buchanan were touting as an immigration referendum.

It shows that immigration is not high on the radar screens or has much traction with voters in what is one of the most conservative districts in the country.

I see everyone is still in acute denial here.

Bush's endorsement isn't a Rosetta Stone to explain Cannon's victory.

I think that the Senate Bill's obvious demise let some of the air out of the illegal issue. Bush's recent popularity rise helped make Bush's highly unusual intervention in a GOP primary more effective.

...that even tancredo/bay buchanan...

Dane, if a meteorite smote both Tancredo and Buchanan, the anti-illegal movement would continue apace without them. What would you do then? Do you have back-up strawmen ready to beat in case you lose your two favorites?

Chris Cannon, Utah Republicans, GOP Republicans running in 06 and 08 and the White House, now knows that Americans are "mad as HELL and we're not going to take" our voices to be shouted down by the Pro-Illegal Businesses that are promising $$$$$ as goodies to shut us up or out!

I know nothing about the other candidate, I do know, however, he was smeared in newspapers, media and probably by GOP thugs coming in to "win one for W" as has happened around the country but one loss did not lose WWII nor the Civil War.

Conservatives who try real hard and lose then whimper away with their tails behind their legs never learned a lesson from the "Real COWBOY" (Reagan) nor from A. Lincoln, (who in case you were subjected to Publik Skool before 1960) who lost at business, politics and love over 30 times before he won, then lost his life over his strong stands.

God's timing is not ours.

That the President maintains control of the house and senate is the most important issue of our lifetime.

I think you're being a bit over dramatic there.

The turnout was horrible!

Even with the Texas vote.

A fairly predictable victory but all the hyperbolic rhetoric got some issues brought out.

We are within one seat of a SCOTUS majority, with a man in the White House who will appoint conservative judges. We are likely to get at least one appointment in the next two years. It took us twenty years after the Borking to get back to this point. If we lose this opportunity by the Senate going Dem, it'll probably take another twenty.

Lose the House and we lose funding for Iraq, the tax cuts will be reversed and we'll have an impeachment.

I'd say that's important.

Was the NJ a primary GOP election
or a general election?

"That the President maintains control of the house and senate..."

A republican president helping republican candidates in general elections happens all the time.

But getting involved in a primary is rare. I could understand if it was some neo-Nazi, but Jacob was just a garden variety conservative who was more conservative on immigration.

I agree it's a defeat, but Rome wasn't built in a day.

Yesterday, illegal immigration wasn't even on most peoples' radar screens. Today, it is a major concern for a large minority. Tomorrow, it will be THE social issue.

If you stand for patriotism and national sovereignty, the trend is your friend. If you are one of the internationalist, corporate elite, your days in the sun are numbered.

"Lose the House and we lose funding for Iraq, the tax cuts will be reversed and we'll have an impeachment."

The GOP controlled senate has had plenty of time to appoint Bush's nominee's.
If you want to place blame, place it where it should be.

Hundreds of GOP nominees for different courts are still waiting for hearing and appointments and who do u think controls the schedule and agenda.

THE MAJORITY GOP SENATE.

You're deluding yourself. Alito has already made a difference on the Court. One more conservative and Roe will be overruled.

Fortunately, it appears you single-issue folks don't have the votes to torpedo the Republicans and flip Congress to the Dems.

I said nothing about Alito who is a great Justice (Thanks to those of us who unnominated Harriet Miers.

THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF GOP COURT NOMINEES STILL WAITING FOR A HEARING AND APPOINTMENT TO THE BENCH.

What about that do u disagree with?

He spent more than 6 times than Throckmorton in 04...

Throckmorton spent $84,235 in 2004 compared to $246,552 spent by John Jacob. While unquestionably more, it's not nearly six times more. Don't just make stuff up, Dane.
