In April, Chicago became the first U.S. city to outlaw the sale of foie gras, a goose liver delicacy that is decried by animal-rights activists because it is created by force-feeding birds to fatten up their livers. Will the city prosecute if a citizen imports some through the post office (by mail) or by car (buys it in another city)?
Is possession criminalized or just sale?

And I believe the anti-WalMart "Big Box" vote will come up on Wednesday.

The latest target is trans fat, found in some oils used to fry chicken, fries and other foods. A proposed ordinance would limit the use of such oils by fast-food chains in the city. With a grandfathered exception for Billy Goat Tavern?

"We have children getting killed by gang leaders and dope dealers," an angry Mayor Richard M. Daley said earlier this year. "We have real issues here in this city. And we're dealing with foie gras? Let's get some priorities."
Im not exactly a great fan of Mayor Daley but he does have a point.

"...members of the City Council are trying to crack down on things they deem unhealthy, immoral or just plain annoying."
This is always where it starts. Is there some reason that people in government don't understand that government solves NOTHING? People solve problems...and these aren't even PROBLEMS!
Why not tackle crime or allow IL citizens to arm themselves? How about cutting spending and lowering taxes? But no, it's always got to be these stupid Nanny State missions.
I HATE using this term, but the majority of City Councils in blue areas are truly stuck on stupid! I lived under a regime like this when I was a property owner/business manager in Madistan. I fled the city limits as soon as I could. Friggin' socialists!

Aren't they also trying to pass a minimum wage increase that requires Target and similar stores to provide mandatory health care etc?
I heard on the radio that if passed, Target would close three stores and stop plans for more stores...
Hear anything like that?

Let's get some priorities.Actually most eloquent Mr. Mayor, I think they've got their priorities.
Maybe they'll go in in the dark of night with bulldozers to enforce them.

I remember when Democrats were real men, by god. What is happening to this country? lol

Of course. Lefties don't care about people being hurt by crime in the streets. To control that would violate their ideas on political correctness. But they do want to intrude into and control peoples' lives. No surprise, when you understand libs.

Will the city prosecute if a citizen imports some through the post office (by mail) or by car (buys it in another city)?I live about 100 miles north of Chicago - I may just set up a foi gras stand at the Wisconsin border - ya know like a fireworks store or a cheese hut or a "gentlemen's club" . . . . but only selling fois gras . . . . .I'd make a mint!!
To: Lexington Green
Interesting, the trans-fat ban would kill Chicago's famous pizza and hot dog restaurants. It would close down black soul food restaurants.

The city council in Chicago is the cantina scene in Star Wars. Sounds like it's degenerated even further...like the Mexican cantina scene in From Dusk To Dawn.
