A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day

ood morning, FRiends.   I have often wished I had a *generic* table to post on days when I'm short of time,   or low on creativity, and can't think of a theme or can't find the right graphics when I *have* a theme.   So, here it is - I made one - and you will probably see it again 'cause it just says WELCOME!

I'm calling it my "Ain't Got No Theme" (sorta)  or  "Ain't Got No Graphics" (sorta) table.  When you see it, you will know it's one or the other - or BOTH!   Do hope you'll stop in, have a cup of coffee, share your thoughts, pick a theme, post a picture, offer a suggestion for a future theme, offer to WRITE a future thread, or just wave as you drive by. :)

Okay, here's something that I'm pretty sure you've all been wanting to know how to do because you just never know when it will come in handy, and I did feel bad about not having a new theme for today. Everybody, please clear a space in your home for a *runway* or *stage* so you'll have room to practice today's important lesson.

Mastering the beauty queen look requires a mix of nature and nurture. You can't teach yourself to have shapely legs and blinding white teeth - though there are professionals out there to help with those things - but practice might make perfect when it comes to moving like Miss America.

Author Elissa Stein offers pointers in her book "Beauty Queen" (Chronicle):

• The Wave

The wave is the first sign of royalty - it's majestic, elegant and commanding, Stein writes.

Extend arm out to the side; bend elbow to 90 degrees; fingers and elbow should form one vertical line; slightly cup hand; without moving fingers or wrist, rotate hand from the forearm; as you wave, slowly turn head from side to side, making eye contact with admirers; smile.

• The Walk

For advice on turning a walk into a glide, Stein looked to "Becoming a Beauty Queen" by Barbara Peterson Bunwell, a former Miss USA, and her sister Polly Peterson Bowles, a former Miss Minnesota:

Think grace, think poise, think elegance, then walk on the balls of your feet; don't tiptoe, instead place your weight forward when walking; keep hips straight ahead and head still; place one foot directly in front of another, as if on a tightrope; arms should swing naturally; smile.

Jeff, a 20-year-old in our community, has been given more than he deserves. He had deliberately dropped a brick from a highway overpass that went through the windshield of a car driven by Vickie Prantle. It split open her face, put out her right eye, destroyed her teeth, and necessitated a long series of painful surgeries.

Jeff could have expected Vickie to have a vengeful attitude. But even as she awaited the paramedics, Vickie prayed for the grace to forgive the perpetrator.

Later, she asked the judge to give Jeff a second chance, and he was sentenced to 90 days in a boot camp. “She gave me a gift,” he said, “and I’m going to take it to the fullest extent. I’m very thankful she was a Christian. If she wasn’t, I would still be locked up.”

If that troubled young man puts his faith in Jesus Christ, he will fully reward Vickie for her gift. But if not, his guilt will increase on the final judgment day. Jesus said, “For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required” (Luke 12:48). Jeff has been given much. But so have you and I. We who know Christ have received something much greater—the salvation and forgiveness that Jesus gives.
