Heated denials from news agencies accused of staging images with doctored photographs of dead children in the aftermath of an Israeli airstrike in Lebanon, cannot rest on staged images from the war arena never having happened before.

"The world was shocked to find out that a PR firm, Hill and Knowlton had manufactured the `incubator babies’ incident in Kuwait, which precipitated the Gulf War; Iraqi soldiers ripping Kuwait babies out of incubators in a genocidal fashion.

"The computer is tied to a fax. In this way we can disseminate information in a few minutes to those we think will react (positively). Our job is to ensure that the arguments for our side will be the first to be expressed.

"Our work is not to verify information. We are not equipped for that. Our work is to accelerate the circulation of information favorable to us, to aim them at carefully chosen targets. We did not claim that there were death camps in Bosnia, we just made it known that Newsday claimed it."

Any questions?

Just check out the names of the photographers AP sent to cover the story: Nasser Nasser was one, and several others who were just as likely to be Hezbos as they were to be actual "photographers."

And as far as Nasser Nasser is concerned, IIRC he's got photo credits from the area before Qana occurred, so it should be easy enough to find out whether the time stamp anomalies were time zone related.

So repeating a lie doesn't make them lairs too?

(I couldn't make the story come up so all I read was what you posted from it)

She's actually giving them too much credit. A "denial" would have to state a belief that the timestamps are correct rather than inconclusive, which is all we've heard.

A quibble: Many are saying the photos are staged, but I don't think anybody is going so far as to say that they are doctored, i.e. Photoshop tricks.

Who knew? All this time I've thought that Iraq's invasion of Kuwait precipitated the Gulf War.

I think it might be a good idea if we were very, very careful to make the following distinctions in talking about these incidents:

1. "doctored" ie fake photos which change a real incident, by means of such things as photoshop, to show something that did not actually happen.

2 staged photos of real scenes arranged by the photographers for an effect other that the reality of what occurred.

3.. Genuine photos of staged events, which is what I think we have here. The photographers may or may not be naive.

No blood. No broken bits. Apparent rigor mortis, too soon. Performers (green helmet man) playing multiple roles.

Staged events are a standard ME trick.
Some photographers are more gullible or more co-operative than others but it doen't help to blame them as much as to uncover and expose the staging of the event itself.
