UNITED NATIONS - The United States and France reached agreement Saturday on a U.N. Security Council resolution aimed at ending the fighting between Israel and Lebanese Hezbollah guerrillas, U.S. Ambassador John Bolton said.
Bolton refused to comment on the text, but an official with knowledge of the document said the draft calls for a full cessation of violence between Israel and Hezbollah, but would allow Israel the right to launch strikes if Hezbollah attacks it.

This is big news. Nothing is more effective than a UN resolution. Israel and Hezbollah will now march hand-in-hand into the sunset as brothers in peace.
This "treaty" or whatever you want to call it is being brokered by two outside parties. Traditionally, each representative would be acting as the trusted friend of one of the combatants. The unspeakable truth is that here France officially gives notice to the world that it is Hezbollah's agent.
You've got this wrong. The French hate the Hezbos. In fact, France has suffered from Hezbos terrorism the most next to Israel and perhaps the US. The French are doing two things here. One: They are establishing themselves as a serious player in the region by jerking around the US. Two: They are annoying the hell out of the Hezbos by making an agreement the Hezbos do not want to make.
The Hezbos will die before they accept a deal where they don't get at least one morsal of a victory (Remember these fanatics have demented pride). In the end, the French may get a chance to shoot at the Hezbos as this plays out. Annoy America and annoy the Hezbos all in one day. Not bad.
But aren't the French going to disarm, disband the Hezzies and guarantee the peace?
Worried about what? I'd be worried too; that's why they have been unequivocal so far. What are you talking about?
And Bush is Condi's boss.
but that is not how the media will report it. Unfortunately, they will lie and distort
The Czech's got the same deal in 1938.
They can reach all the agreements they want to but until the parties directly concerned reach agreement it means squat.
A before-the-ink-is-dry default. Barely enough time to re-load.
You are about to have a ceasefire forced on you by the wimps in the US State Department, in cooperation with the French(!) The only result will be to allow Hizbollah to rearm.
"If you don't like the outcome of the game; change the rules", (Captain James T. Kirk, Star Fleet Academy Graduation, June 2517)
Rather than destroying the next few dozen Katushas you find, save them. Then shoot them from inside Lebanon into Israel, (into some field outside Kiryat Shimona. That's where the media is. Let them get good pictures, etc.)
Blame Hizbollah for breaking the ceasefire. Ramp it up again.
And the Frogs and Washington Weenies will look stupid for endorsing the ceasefire.
Good. Now the Israeli's can kill more of them.
The Hizzies will reject it, whatever it happens to be. If they accept it, they call attention to the fact that they haven't complied with 1559.
Consider this just a first draft.

"Under Article 7, Israel will be unable to carry out aerial reconnaissance missions in order to identify possible Hezbollah preparations for an offensive."
And George W. Bush is Condi's boss. So...
This is sheer lunacy. The victory belongs to Hezbollah. They are now ranked among equals.
What they have done is give standing to a political militia equal to that of a nation state, Israel.
Who among us would accept the UN giving standing to the KKK equal to our government in Washington?
Keyhole
The UN is irrelevant.
