I bet Olmert is reacting more to the dissatisfaction of the Israeli electorate's perception of his handling of the crisis than to whatever the useless UN is drumming up.
I am getting upset with, what appears to be "cave-in" by our government to the French/Arab League/Lebanese demands.
Of course, we the public have not seen all the permutations of what is happening within the confines of the UN, the Oval Office or at the Quai d'Orsay.
A month too late, and that's assuming anything happens at all. Israel could have finished this long ago. This PC BS will be the end of all of us if we're not careful.
Olmert is an enemy within and he doesn't even know it.
"We must be on G-D's side.
FRmail me to be added or removed from this Judaic/pro-Israel/Russian Jewry ping list.
Warning! This is a high-volume ping list.
God Speed to Israel. And may He aid them in destroying those who seek their annihilation. I pray for Israel because you know Liberals are praying for Hezbollah.
May God protect the IDF. May God protect the Lebanese civilians (real ones, not the ones with Katushya launchers in their garage). God have mercy on the Hezbollah murderers that they may repent of their evil before they're gunned down.
God I hope not...but it sounds like the Israelis are sick of his wafling...if you're right, then prepare to say adios to PM Olmert.
Totally correct.
Once you accept that, you need to ask why he really is doing it, then a whole world of possibilites open up...
How is Ariel Sharon doing? Haven't heard from him lately.
I actually have the exact opposite opinion. Judge by his actions rather than his words. While his speeches are all "diplomacy" this and "UN peacekeeper" that, the actual boots on the ground are making the exact kind of forceful military strides that Israel has needed to do for decades.
I think this Olmert guy is absolutely brilliant. I think he's playing the UN and Israel's own Left like a fiddle. He's learned a great deal from the way Arafat and the other Arab ringleaders have handled the UN - by making sure to keep the UN mired in talking (what it loves to do best) and not letting the UN's empty words get in the way of getting the job done.
There is no way on Earth that there will ever exist a cease-fire plan that simultaneously pleases Israel, Lebanon, and Hezbollah. This becomes especially true when it's not these parties specifically that are in the process of drafting a plan, but rather when it's the US, France, Germany, etc., who have taken it upon themselves to argue about what the embattled parties *really* want, and how best they can achieve it without fighting.
Well, those parties can pretty much keep arguing forever. Olmert recognizes this, and intends to let the UN offer proposal after proposal, constantly thinking it's getting closer to a solution. He won't necessarily outright reject every single proposal the UN offers; either Lebanon or Hezbollah will reject a huge number of them, or he'll demonstrate that any given UN proposal is unworkable and tell them to go back to the drawing board, or both.
The way I see it, Olmert is a smart, smart man.
We should have a national time of prayer for Israel, and everyone engaged in this battle against the evil of our time.
Lord, keep the brave young Israeli soldiers under your wing as they fight their way through dangerous areas. I wish I could do more than pray.

God does not hear the prayers of the godless, neither does He answer them. God inclines His ear to those who humbly seek Him.
"The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry. His face is against those who do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.
The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart and saves such as have a contrite spirit." -- Psalm 34:15-18
