If theres suddenly a litmus test for insanity to be administered by the owners of Hollywood movie studios, then start with the executive suites. Thats my reaction to the are-you-sh****ng-me pronouncement by Viacom Inc. chairman Sumner Redstone today that his Paramount Pictures is terminating its 14-year relationship with Tom Crazy Cruises production company because the actors controversial and erratic off-screen behavior hurt the theatrical grosses of "Mission Impossible 3.
Of course, the studio's publicity department worked overtime all summer to dispel just that notion whenever entertainment business reporters questioned whether Cruise's loony tunes might affect his appeal. "As much as we like him personally, we thought it was wrong to renew his deal," Mr. Redstone said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal. "His recent conduct has not been acceptable to Paramount."....."

"His recent conduct has not been acceptable to Paramount."
And then they turn around and sign a deal with the makers of South Park.
The Dianetics acting method CLEARly isn't cutting it in the time track of Tommy's current Thetan skills.
I guess dirty is OK, but crazy isn't.
I guess you could call it 'Cruise control' but I'm unhappy with the situation as I had looked forward to watching him jump up and down on Oprah's couch again.
Redstone didn't get his bucks by being dumb. I'm sure he's quite convinced that the Cruise circus is just beginning its world tour.
And what is unacceptable conduct in Hollywood these days??
Cruise is a GREAT actor in the right film: The Last Samurai.
I was there when he jumped the couch. It was such a put on I thought they were doing a movie.
Maybe we can call people ruining their careers over fake love jumping the couch like jumping the shark is used for tv shows.
Guess he and Katie haven't found a baby to adopt to pass off as Suri. (okay I really think they had a baby but wouldn't die of shock if the whole thing was faked)
Sounds all to wierd to me
I wouldn't bank on a 40-something action star.
I saw all three. The first two I rented on DVD, the third one I saw recently on CBS. Quality-wise, the first two were a lot better than the third one. I stopped watching the third movie about 30 minutes in, because of the overkill of romance scenes. I'm not interested in watching some twerp engage in romance in some action thriller.
I am trying to understand what exactly is behind this guy's pull. He is an average actor with an intense stare and can prance around the stage like a monkey. Why is he such a box office draw? Granted many young girls still swoon over him but that's not his core audience. So whats the deal ?
Tom Cruise is definitely crazier.
Just shut up and act!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is bad business and it seems like more Americans are refusing to finance people they don't like off the screen or stage.
They think becasue there HollyWood, it gives them a free pass on what they can say and do.
Screaming into the camera like a hypersensitive 5 year old that Ritalin is bad for you.
The deal is that he plays the same character in nearly every movie -- he's the handsome but flawed guy who becomes a "good guy" through the love of a good woman.
Chicks love that stuff. It's a "hey, looky what I made!" kinda thing.
Then combine that with topics guys like, i.e. NASCAR, jet planes, sports, etc. etc. and you've covered your bases.
Obviously you haven't seen Eyes Wide Shut. THE WORST MOVIE EVER MADE!
