Yeah, we can do without lifestyle Nazis. I no longer smoke but I guarantee not to complain if you do or to throw hissy fits over the fact that anyone does, much less look for stumbling, stupid gummint to make the call.

Yeah, we can do without lifestyle Nazis.

And they are Nazis...They don't like smoking so they want the government to forbid it. That's a slippery slope that leads to the loss of all liberties.

It should be safe to assume that all of the pro-smoker "anti-anti smoker" complainers here, are all for the freedom to smoke anything one chooses...right?

or are we just talking the freedom to smoke tobbaco?

I don't care what you do with your appetite or your crotch...It's none of my business. The Constitution does not grant me, or the government, the right to dictate to you what you can or cannot consume and that includes tobacco and marijuana.

"It seems the tobacco companies are just begging for more lawsuits."

I think that you are right. I just wonder if they are going to stand up this time and point out how the states mishandled the money that they stole, oops I mean were awarded from the tobacco companies.

liberty_lvr, HarleyLady27 & the like I've been saying for a long time now. God nor my Mama & Papa gave be a Big Brother & I don't need strangers incl the govt to be one or get one for me Now. When I don't want to be around smoke I don't go near it or if I am near it & it bothers me I just LEAVE. It's called taking personal responsibility for my own life/health. I wish these militant anti-smokers/non-smokers would MYODFB.

And @ least countries like Iran & China don't claim their citizens are free & have rights when they either don't or are restricting/repealing them. ; )-

mysterio, You're right. I've been saying for years now that when the militant non-smokers get their way & tobacco is out-lawed altogether or barely raises much tax $ & the taxes of ALL, incl those same militant anti-smokers, have to be raised guess who will be whining & complaining then. Not I b/c I'll say "I told ya so".
- - - -
I also warned "back in the day" when folks started suing gun manufacturers & tobacco co's that sooner or later it would keep getting worse & extend to say fast-food, junk-food & candy co's (those were my Actual examps @ the time) - - AND guess what. The fast-food suits have started. On the one hand I like being able to say "I told ya so" but on the other hand in many cases I wish I had been wrong & this is one of those times.

Speaking of my predictions, he is another one samm1148. Back when these tobacco suits started I warned that the states weren't going to use the $ for what they said they were going to which they usually said it was to re-coup/off-set expenses incurred for medical care costs for the dependents of the state like MediCare but instead I've heard a wide variety of uses incl but not ltd to rd work/infrastructure, state parks, schools & a variety of other state services & perks. So once again, unfortunately, I get to say "I TOLD YA SO!".

On a side note: I know someone that got a wedding invitation once that said:
*Guests are requested not to smoke, wear perfume/cologne, deodorant or hair-spray.* Basically, anything that had an "odor".
LOL, I kid you not.
Needless to say, my friend, who was actually related to the groom, didn't attend the wedding.
- - - -
Now if y'all will excuse me, I have to go & feed my "addiction" to College Football : 0 )- The game already started *Eek* & I can hear it from where I'm sitting but can't see it. *Runs to Living Room*

Ping!

Read through the comments so far. I *GASP* actually think that people are starting to see that all the no-smoking BS is just that...BS...and it's actually another step in the process of the Nanny Staters trying to tell us all how to live our lives.

I'm so proud! You guys have made a BIG impact on some of the thinking around here. :)

Lower the nicotine in a cigarette and you will have people smoking more cigarettes to get their nicotine level up to what they require. If you want to have them smoke less....really increase the nicotine. You'll get vomit though.

Not true.  I buy bags of loose tobacco and I roll my own.  This tobacco is not laced with all that chit that Big Tobacco adds.  And even Randall Flagg will tell you that by using the loose tobacco, we actually smoke less.  And it sure is CHEAPER!

Do smokers realize how nasty they smell? I can't understand why someone would pay money to get high and smell like $hit. Instead of increasing nicotine levels why can't the cigarette companies make some that leave the smoker smelling like flowers or something nice?

Gosh! You must hang around some pretty unclean smokers!  How about a little personal hygiene like bathing, washing hair, brushing teeth........you get the picture.

And washing clothes helps a lot as well.

I never ever had anyone refer to me that I STINK because I smoke.  I take care of myself buddy!  But if a person wears the same clothes and they reek and the person doesn't bath regularly or wash hair and brush teeth, of course they are going to stink.

My hubby used to be a heavy duty mechanic and he would come home smelling like gas and oil.  But after a shower, he was back to smelling good, and he smoked!

Try hanging with people who care about personal hygiene, how about it!

And GET  HIGH?  What planet are YOU on? We aren't talking POT here ole young one!

A report shows American tobacco companies increased nicotine levels by an average of 10 per cent over six years.

Obviously, they didn't actually burn any tobacco in order to determine this, because there is nowhere one can do that these days.

It's harder to find a place to smoke that it is to get a building permit for an oil refinery or nuclear power plant.

"Smokers Rights neither promotes smoking nor denies the health risks of smoking. Instead, we defend the interests of adults who choose to smoke; we promote freedom of choice for employers and proprietors who wish to accommodate smokers on their premises; and we speak out against those who want to discriminate against smokers or ban smoking completely. Last but not least, we promote greater courtesy and tolerance between smokers and non-smokers. "

Cigarettes and tobacco products are still a legal commodity.

Not surprisingly, the object of the crime is money—$206 billion to the states and billions more to contingency fee lawyers. The cover for the crime is the maddening complexity of the Master Settlement Agreement, which documents the deal. The real victims are the people whom the states and their lawyers set out to protect—smokers, who get nothing out of the settlement yet must pay the entire cost.

Freedom is not a commodity. If government can take his right to smoke marijuana, government can take your right to smoke tobacco.

Oh come on!.  Pot is very illegal.  Cigarettes have been around for over hundreds of years.  There was never much of a problem with people smoking until Big Tobacco fell to their knees in front of the Attorney Generals and then the Tobacco Settlement Money was born and turned gluttons into the state lawmakers.

They just can't get enough tax dollars off of smokers.  And to stick it to 25-30% of their constituents is sinful, IMHO.

At least if a cop stops me and finds cigarettes in my purse, I don't have the worry of being arrested.  I sure wouldn't want to be caught with POT!  NO WAY!
.
I didn't say that Freedom is a commodity.  I SAID that cigarettes are still a LEGAL commodity!
