"Attempting to control smokers is like trying to herd cats"

***except they have to stop and take breaks occassionally***

[sorry, I couldn't help it. ;-) ]

This thread turned out more colorful and interesting than I'd hoped. Man, do I love FreeRepublic!

Don't expect any rational thought from the psychotic antitobacco zealots. Self righteous judgmental hatred is their drug, and they stay hopped up on it 24/7.

"I SAID that cigarettes are still a LEGAL commodity!"

Once upon a time, so was pot. Right up until it wasn't.

Therefore, Mugs makes a valid point:

"If government can take his right to smoke marijuana, government can take your right to smoke tobacco"

Right, wrong or indifferent, it's within the realm of possibilities.

Oh come on!. Pot is very illegal.
And cigarettes soon will be.

Cigarettes have been around for over hundreds of years
Pot has been around for thousands of years. It didn't become illegal until 1937.

At least if a cop stops me and finds cigarettes in my purse, I don't have the worry of being arrested.
That will soon change. You will be considered a criminal exactly the same as any other drug addict.

I didn't say that Freedom is a commodity. I SAID that cigarettes are still a LEGAL commodity!
Sure you did...you dodged the question xhrist asked.
You are outraged because your right to smoke cigarettes is under attack. I don't smoke cigarettes or pot, yet I defend your right to smoke cigarettes and xhrist's right to smoke pot.

An attack against one liberty is an attack against all!

I agree with muggs on this. There was a time when marijuana was perfectly legal, and in many places tobacco was illegal.

I have no problem with the legalization of marijuana.....my problem is with many in the pro-legazation movement who, while they are fighting for their leaf, actively work to criminalize mine. And there are many of them here on FR and it is thanks to them I am no longer taking an active roll. I don't fight the legalization of marijuana, I just don't waste my time activdely supporting it anymore.

I can't understand why someone would pay money to get high and smell like $hit.

It's news to me that one can get high from cigarettes.

Tobacco smoke smells like shit to you? They must have a different kind of shit where you come from.

And I hope you stay there.

You said, in part: I never ever had anyone refer to me that I STINK because I smoke. I take care of myself buddy! But if a person wears the same clothes and they reek and the person doesn't bath regularly or wash hair and brush teeth, of course they are going to stink.
***

Few people would have the lack of class to tell a smoker that he or she smells bad, but the fact is, they do. I have never smoked, but when I livd with my parents I stunk, because the cigarette smoke gets in all the clothes in your closet and everywhere else. I agree that a shower cleans ther person off (until they start smoking again after the shower), but at least in a house where two people smoke 2-3 packs a day, everything else really , smells. The smoker can't smell it because he or she is so used to it, just as your husband probably didn't realize how much he smelled of oil and gas when he came home. My first job was at a Red Lobster restaurant, and I came home every night reeking of fried fish, but I thought little of it, because I had spent hours with the smell. My family didn't hesitate to let me know though.

All of that said, I don't favor outlawing tobacco. I just stay away from it if I can, and tolerate it when I can't.

I understand your feelings. I take an active roll because I love the American dream and I don't want to see it die. The Constitution of the United States of America is the greatest document in human history, but it will end up in the trash if not defended by all.

No, you just don't like the smell of tobacco and so to you it smells bad.........to others it does not.

I smoke cigars myself, and the heavy duty ones like Camacho Corojo or Joya de Nicaragua Antano will definitely take you to a higher level of consciousness. :-)

(P.S. Don't tell the tobacco Nazis or they will start carpet bombing Honduras and Nicaragua.)

I'm totally with you on your position. But over the years I have been so brutally verbally attacked here, on other forums, and IRL, I just stick with my own product.

As I said, I do not oppose the movement, I just no longer do anything for it.

Yep. I went from 2 packs a day to about ten to twelve after rolling my own. And it was completely unexpected on my part.

(Sorry I haven't been around much lately, SL. Lots of issues last month)

Many people like the smell of tobacco smoke when it is "fresh." Occasionally I kind of like it too (it sometimes smells very sweet, and those times I can understand why people who smoke do so.). Very few people like the smell of smoke left in clothes, hair, curtains, car interiors, etc. I am sure there are some, but not most people, even including smokers. I still think that most smoker don't know how they smell to non-smokers (not that they should care, but the smell of a smoker, even when not smoking really isn't pleasant to non-smokers. Smokers, on the other hand, probably don't notice it.)

Well then lets make sure there is no Alcohol in booze....

As MADD gathers steam, political influence, inspiration and legal warplans from the anti-tobacco nazis, that is exactly what is currently underway...........

Do a google search on MADD and you will find tons of documentation that will substantiate what your comment implies........Their movement is growing just as subtley as the tobacco nazis did.

LOL!
I know...I've seen them go after you many times.
I have a really weird sense of humor so I don't mind when they attack me and I do enjoy responding to them. I picture them wild-eyed and drooling as they bang away on their keyboards!

MADD is a temperance movement. Their goal is alcohol prohibition. Their drunk driving statistics are bogus. Their next step is to nationalize drunk driving laws. With the states out of the game they can then use health regulations on a national scale to get rid of the booze demon.
