In this photo released by CBS, Cable News Network anchor Kyra Phillips presents the "Top Ten List" on the set of the "Late Show with David Letterman," in New York, Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006. Phillips made headlines earlier this week when her microphone was left on during a bathroom break, unknowingly catching her conversation with a friend. The conversation ended up being broadcast live on the air during a speech by President Bush. (AP Photo/CBS, JP Filo)

No Kyra, I don't think it made the President's speech more interesting. It showed you to be an airhead.

Actually I think it shows a lot of spunk that she'd go on Letterman and read that. That's funny!
It won't get her out of hot water with the bother and his wife, but I can respect her moxie :~)

It's thingls like that which explain why we haven't watched Letterman in years. He was so much better when he was dropping things off of buildings...

I saw this the other night. She genuinely looked embarrassed. She also looks normal to me. So many of those anchorettes are are plastic and silicone.

This is copied from a post of mine on another Kyra-CNN thread.
She did absolutely nothing wrong, it was the sound engineer at the board in the control room who messed up. That's the guy who decides what channel to bring up and which outgoing bus to mix it into, and he chose to bring up her mic. Sending it to the live bus was probably a mistake, the intent was most likely to eavesdrop for a little fun- with his headphones on he missed the fact that he was live nationally!
If it was up to the talking heads to turn their own wireless sets off and on, you'd hear them switch in and out for every segment- it would go like this: Producer says it's time for the weather, so the weather guy switches on and the two behind the desk reach for their transmitters and switch off. You don't see that, it's seamless because it's done from the sound board.
All of the wireless units are on all the time, and the sound man selects which channels to feed to the main output. Like a Broadway musical that uses fifteen mics, the talent does not do the switching (or you'd hear dressing-room noise when Ado Annie goes offstage to change if she forgot).
Most of the time, the transmitter is hard for the talent to reach, especially for women who don't wear a jacket- it'll be behind them at waist level where they can't get to it.
If you listen to the Bush speech, he is talking along, then suddenly there's Kyra in the bathroom. No sound of her walking down the corridor or opening the door, because the sound crew had the slider down. Then, suddenly, her voice is there, the sound guy turned her up! Listen to the clip a few times and you'll hear the levels change, meaning that someone was actively working the controls. Note that KP's voice goes up at one point, then Bush's voice goes down- sound guy twiddling knobs.
They keep the wireless mics on, because if the talent turned them off then forgot to turn it back ON, then walked onstage and started talking into a dead mike, you'd have dead air and you'd see the talking head rush to flip the switch back on. It is much easier for the sound crew to have the talent leave them on all the time, and control the mix from the sound board- no dead air. This requires the sound crew to be decent and respectful and professional.
Kyra is taking one for the team rather than have CNN be forced to admit whose fault it is, and maybe have to discipline someone.

The person she most needs to apologize to is her sister-in-law...or maybe this will be an opportunity to tell her exactly what she thinks...oops, that already happened!

BEGIN THE BIDET
When I be-gan the bi-det
I was wired and I was a sender
It sure was a night of publicity splendor
Please pour me some more...Chardonnay
When I began the bidet
I was just there to refresh my tush-ie
But there I was...chatting along with Bush-ie!
Please pour me some more...Beaujolais
Oh yes, let me begin the bidet, let it spray
My job was once a spark, but now it's an em-ber
My freak sister-in-law will soon dis-remember
And I suddenly know...what heaven I'm in
Since I began the bidet
Since I began the bidet
Please pass the...Tokay
OKAY!
