CAIRO, Egypt — Al Qaeda's deputy leader Ayman al-Zawahiri issued a new videotape Saturday along with a man identified as an American member of the terror network, inviting Americans to convert to Islam.
The 41-minute video, posted on an Islamic militant Web site nine days before the fifth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks, had footage of al-Zawahri and a man the video identified as Adam Yehiye Gadahn, an American who the FBI believes attended Al Qaeda training camps in Pakistan and served as an Al Qaeda translator.
Gadahn and al-Zawahiri did not appear together in the footage but were each featured on a split screen. Both wore white turbans and robes.
"This is a definite prelude to attack. Proper islamic protocol requires an opportunity to convert before an attack."
My thoughts exactly. Maybe AQ wants to celebrate the 5th anniversary of 9/11 with a "bang"?

I don't think they'd have any chance of getting away with it on 9/11. Security is going to be really, really high everywhere. I think they're more likely to try for sometime when they think we have let our guard down and are distracted with something else. (Election Day, for example?)

The problem with chosing election day is they aim to affect the elections, so they'll pull something first methinks. I'd think they'd go for the Spain effect. I'd bet they're hoping the Dems will try to impeach Bush. Depending on what they do, if it appears that Bush has not protected us here, it could easily turn the election on a dime.

Anyway... yeah, if anyone didn't already know what our choices are in the struggle against Islamic fascism are, this new video makes it perfectly clear. Fight them or lose everything.

Don't laugh. You may have hit on a big reason for his conversion. He probably had girls avoid him in school, or torment him. Now, he's part of a religion that allows him to "own" his wife/wives.
This may be the open door that the Democrats have been awaiting to push for negotiations.

That's also a possibility. In the case of Spain, they struck about 2 days before the election. That was time enough - by the evening of the attacks, the Socialists were in the streets, rioting in front of the PP (Partido Popular, the conservative party) headquarters and blaming Aznar. He was term limited out and was not actually running, but it was enough to defeat the PP candidate put up to replace him.
That time-frame worked so well that it wouldn't surprise me if they tried it again. And here as in Spain, they will have the eager cooperation of the left.
