James Woods on Leno Right now
NBC

Posted on 09/11/2006 9:18:09 PM PDT by Sensei Ern

He mentioned that an FBI agent slipped the idea that other box cutters were found, but that since the planes were grounded, they were not hijacked.

He also mentioned that six weeks prior to 9/11, he identified four men on his flight from Boston and told the flight stewardess. Turns out two were actual 9/11 hijackers, but the report was dismissed as racial profiling.

TOPICS: War on Terror; Your Opinion/Questions
KEYWORDS: 911; dryrun; fifthanniversary; jameswoods; leno; sept11; wot
Speaking of those two, they were on seperate flights, which means the different hijacker teams did know each other.

Claim: Actor James Woods observed and reported four hijackers making a trial run on an airline flight before the September 11 terrorist attacks on America.
Status: True.

James Woods apparantly was on the same flight from Logan to LA a week prior and reported seeing individuals in first class that were taking notes and doing a dry run.

Origins: A
great deal of "What if?" soul-searching and hand-wringing follows in the wake of any disaster. Should we have foreseen it coming? Would lives and property have been saved if we had taken preventive measures? Did we miss signs we should have noticed, or ignore signs we should have heeded?

In the case of the September 11 hijackings, some signs were definitely noticed, if not heeded. News reports indicate that at least some of the 19 hijackers who took over four flights on September 11 made "dry runs" several weeks in advance, taking trips on cross-country flights headed for San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego from east coast departure points such as Boston's Logan Airport:

ABC News reported last night that two of the hijackers, whom it did not name, flew from Las Vegas to New York on Aug. 1 aboard US Airways, and that one successfully asked for a tour of the cockpit, claiming to be a student pilot. In other flights designed to test airline security, some of the hijackers were seen videotaping in-flight procedures, the network said.
In addition to test runs, some of the hijackers also spent time at Logan in the days before the attack, possibly surveilling security systems at the airport. A rental car used by some of the hijackers was parked at Logan's garage facilities once on Sept. 6, twice on Sept. 9, and once on Sept. 10.

Some of the hijackers had frequent flier accounts with a high number of miles on them. That alone, the senior aviation official said, would have made airline employees more at ease with individuals who seemed to be nothing more than good customers.

A tale which quickly spread after the hijackings was that actor James Woods had noticed four men "of Middle Eastern appearance" acting strangely on a flight he made from Boston to Los Angeles a week before the hijackings, but when he reported his suspicions, they were not taken seriously:

Woods took a flight from Boston to Los Angeles one week before the World Trade Center attacks. The only other people in first class with him were four men "of Middle Eastern appearance" who acted very strangely. During the entire cross-country flight none of them had anything to eat or drink, nor did they read or sleep. They only sat upright in their seats, occasionally conversing with each other in low tones. Woods mentioned what he had noticed to a flight attendant, "who shrugged it off." Arriving in Los Angeles, Woods told airport authorities, but they "seemed unwilling to become involved."
That Woods noticed unusual behavior and reported it to authorities was true, although some of the details in the initial news reports were wrong. Woods' Boston-to-Los Angeles flight actually took place the previous month, in August 2001, not "one week before the World Trade Center attacks":

One of the practice flights may have occurred in August. Actor James Woods was so shaken by a flight he took from Boston to Los Angeles about a month before the attacks that he told an attendant and authorities of his suspicions when he landed. Woods was in first-class and the only other passengers in the section were four men who appeared to be Middle Eastern in origin.
During the entire six-hour flight, Woods noticed the men neither ate nor drank. They talked to each other in whispers and did not read or sleep. On Sept. 12, Woods called the FBI to tell investigators about his experience. He was interviewed by agents on Sept. 13. Woods's spokesman told Reuters the actor thought it ''prudent not to comment on this and let the FBI continue to do their job, which they seem to be doing superbly right now.''

Woods is very, very, smart. He warned of these terrorists, I think in August before 911. Flight from Boston to 911. I think a whole show should be dedicated to what this guy experienced. He has been trying to get this message out since 911.

Woods actually mentioned the "racial profiling" bit? I have even more respect for him, now.

Old hippies may not like "racial profiling," but it is essential to the survival of the rest of us in the War on Terror.

Woods identified two of the four 9/11 hijackers on his flight. One who was on flight 175 and one on flight 77. Intel originally believed that none the terror cells was ever in contact with the others but his report proves they were.

It is amazing how quick they work when the heat is on. In a similar vein, a friend of mine went to school with John Hinckley (the guy that shot Reagan). Two years before Hinckley became infamous, he spend a week in LA with mutual friend, also from Dallas. The day after Hinckley shot Reagan, the Secret Service was interviewing this guy in LA wondering why Hinckley had visited him in the past.

And that was 1981.

Didn't he say something like "Hey, they weren't of Norwegian extraction".
I was about asleep but snapped to just enough to catch most of Woods' appearance.

I think I understood that Woods would never have really known of
the FBI's in-house charge of profiling (racism) unless Hirsch had told him?

How nice. Try to help your government. Get labeled a bigot.
Except for his one slip...it sounds like the FBI didn't deserve
John O'Neill.

I believe this show hasn't aired on the West Coast yet. Please see it if you can.

Also this show with James Woods repeats on the East Coast at 2:00 AM ET ( where local NBC affiliates air later repeats ) sometime in the next week. Can't be sure of the date as it changes but it's not likely on this AM's show. Could be on Friday or next Monday.

Just one thing...
Leno had one of the best "Headlines" segments ever...but there
was some "adult content" in there.

I'm not being a prude...but someone's six or seven-year old might

But that Woods segment is something to see; even if he does go a bit
deep in his discussion on the WOT.

No, he didn't. He did just the opposite. Neither one could understand the idiots that believe the government was involved. Charlie pointed out that engineers had proven why the tower came down and it was not demolition. Both agreed that no one in the government was smart enough to run a conspiracy to do anything like 911. I think you need to clean your ears.

No it's not.

We need to "terrorist profile" - Muslims are not a race there are black Muslims, Arab Muslims etc, etc - Muslim fundamentalists can be any one of many different races.

Personally, I'd harass the hell out of all Muslims at airports, after all, WE are all subjected to an excessive level of harrassment every time WE fly, so if it's good enough to impose on us, it's good enough to expand for Muslims - full cavity searches and no carry on items of any sort - If they don't like it then they can take it up with their brethren that are giving them a bad name.

Then maybe they'd help to weed out the problem.

Six or seven weeks before he took the flight.

Two reports from that flight about the terrorists. Ignored because it was racial profiling.

"I don't know how many Norwegian terrorists there are... very specific to a region and to an issue."

on the war:
"As difficult as this war is, in 1999 for example, there wasn't a single woman who was being educated in Afghanistan. Now there are 2 million women going to school in Afghanistan. No matter how threatening this resurgence of the Taliban may be, wee seem to be single-handedly sort of trying to keep that bay so that more people can be educated. In a world where there is enlightenment, intelligence, kindness, awareness of others' needs and others' well being, there is no terrorism."

(my son saw the threads on FR and recorded the interview for me... thanks son and FR)

Remember Annie Jacobsen and Flight 327? Jacobsen wrote extensively of her experience on the plane, where a Syrian band acted strangely during take-off and landings--taking turns in the restroom with a McDonald's bag. CLICK HERE Jacobsen surmised that the men were on a "dry run" practicing to build bombs on board the plane, Bojinka-style. Jacobsen wrote a book on the case, "Terror in the Skies: Why 9/11 Could Happen Again," and updated the story earlier this month. Interesting in light of today's events:
