Bill Would Remove Grounds for Impeachment, Bush Critics Suggest By Susan Jones CNSNews.com Senior Editor September 19, 2006

(CNSNews.com) - A bill now pending in the Senate would make the Bush administration's enemy wiretapping program more practical and flexible, removing all doubt about its legality. But that worries some of Bush's fiercest critics.

According to one anti-Bush group, the bill "would pardon President Bush for breaking the law by illegally wiretapping innocent Americans without warrants."

MoveOn.org's political action committee has accused Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) of caving in to pressure when he introduced a bill that "justifies everything the president did."

The group quotes Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) as saying that Specter's bill would "immunize officials who have violated federal law by authorizing such illegal activities."

MoveOn.org notes that Democrats and some Republicans are "holding strong" against Specter's bill, and the liberal advocacy group is urging Bush opponents to sign a petition "opposing the Republican move to pardon President Bush for breaking the law."

In his weekly radio address on Saturday, President Bush urged Congress to "modernize" the nation's electronic surveillance laws.

Bush says the NSA wiretapping/surveillance program allows the U.S. to "quickly monitor terrorist communications between someone overseas and someone in America," and he says it has helped prevent attacks on U.S. soil.

All of this is nonsensical smoke and mirrors. The Democrats would never try to impeach Bush...Can you say President Cheney?

The don't have that much foresight.

In fact, I mentioned the fact that Cheney would be President to one of them and they said they would impeach Cheney too. I then told them that Dennis Hastert would be next and they had no idea who that was. At the time I thought Condleeza Rice was next in line and when I told them that, they just got silent and stared at me like I was nuts. I now see that the speaker pro-tem would be before Ms. Rice so I was mistaken there, but regardless, these people are absolutely clueless as to why or how the government is setup. They just want to impeach Bush...then Cheney. Then all will be right in their little worlds.....(sigh)

Don't do it W. Over the past two days the FBI has raided Islamic charity offices and those official's houses. One of these charities has given large sums of money to the very same Dems who are obstructing the president on data gathering. I have no doubt that the foreign surveillance program was a first step in getting the warrants needed to pull this off. If the administration admits that this program was illegal then potentially every subsequent finding could be dismissed in court, including and Dems names who happen to show up.

The Dems FEAR that Bush is going to be pardoned from a CRIME...that has never been established to be a crime, I guess.

I think that Conyers and gang WAS planning on impeaching President Bush over the "illegal" war in Iraq...but, unfortunately, the Congress had a hand in THAT....so, I bet when the NSA program was "leaked" to the world, Soros grabbed that and told Conyers and Reid and gang...that THAT would be their "ace in the hole".

If Bush and Congress come to some sort of compromise..kind of like they are doing with this torture stuff...then that takes the "illegality" out of the equation, because Bush KNOWS they are going to try to impeach him.

HE is not going to hand it to them on a platter...and he still has VETO power, and the bully pulpit...so he has his own "ace in the hole".

I have a feeling after THIS Nov. elections...it will be no holds barred for Bush from now on...he has NOTHING to lose, therefore he better fight impeachment with every "trick" legally, in the book!!!

Lol...It'll take more than winning the house to move Nancy up.
But, she is entertaining and would make for some great comedy!

The Speaker of the House is 3rd in line to the Presidency

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_line_of_succession
The presidential line of succession defines who may become or act as President of the United States upon the incapacity, death, resignation, or removal from office (by impeachment and subsequent removal) of a sitting President or a President-elect.

This is a list of the current presidential line of succession, as specified by the Presidential Succession Act of 1947

1 Richard B. Cheney Vice President
2 J. Dennis Hastert Speaker of the House of Representatives
3 Ted Stevens President pro tempore of the Senate

You and me both.

I actually heard something funny tonight..and I can't remember what show it was on.

The line of discussion was Hillary running for POTUS in 2008...and this person (Dick Morris??) said something like "maybe the country will be so tired of this bitter partisan fighting that they won't nominate Hillary, because they KNOW that the fighting would be more ratcheted UP, rather than lessened"....

What a HOOT! This the the DEMS fantasy...get away with lies and smears...get away with calling elected officials, liar, incompetents, morons...

The wouldn't WANT a bipartisan government where we have everyone wanting what is BEST for America...heck NO!

"... for as long as America exists?"

That's reall the question isn't it .. how long will America exists if these people have their way? THey are so obsessed with the Bush hatred, they are clueless about our real enemy who could care less if the infidel was a liberal or conservative, Republican or democrat.

I have visions of John Adams looking down, weeping.

Not likely...but then again, she'd be a lame duck from day one and that could turn out to be the biggest disaster in Democrat history.

Any chance I can get IMMUNIZED when doing cash transactions (like buying A CAR with a CHECK) for over 10,000 dollars?

I THOUGHT NOT.

It would seem the dims are most hypocritical when it comes to any of these matters ...

Yes, I can say "President Cheney."

Though I would rather say it on January 20, 2009.

And as a Christmas wish, can we please have a fair moderator for the next round of presidential/vice presidential debates (and not the farm team for the DriveBy Media/DNC)? Jim Lehrer? Charles Gibson? Gwen Ifill? "Methuselah" Schieffer? Are you kidding me?
