U.S. fatalities in war equal those from Sept. 11 - Military deaths in Iraq, Afghanistan reach 2,973
WASHINGTON - Now the death toll is 9/11 times two.
U.S. military deaths from Iraq and Afghanistan now match those of the most devastating terrorist attack in Americas history, the trigger for what came next. Add casualties from chasing terrorists elsewhere in the world, and the total has passed the Sept. 11 figure.
The latest milestone for a country at war comes without commemoration. It also may well come without the precision of knowing who is the 2,973rd man or woman of arms to die in conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan, or just when it happens. The terrorist attacks killed 2,973 victims in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.
Not for the first time, war that was started to answer death has resulted in at least as much death for the country that was first attacked, quite apart from the higher numbers of enemy and civilians killed, too.

Good perspective and point, P.
"war that was started to answer death has resulted in at least as much death for the country that was first attacked, quite apart from the higher numbers of enemy and civilians killed, too."
Notice the equation that liberals would have the people buy. If you lose more warriors than the initial attack that started a war...the war is counterproductive.
Hmm, I wonder how long it took in WWII to lose the approximately 3,000 from Pearl Harbor.
They are blithering idiots and yes, liberalism is a mental disorder, a deviance, and a perversion devoid of rational thought.
And? These people we have lost at war signed up for that duty. The victims of 911 did not. How dare the media compare the two.
A pointless comparison.
God Bless all who served.
Probably Rush. He's been bashing the media for their panting on American casualties as they hit 500 death milestones. The MSM/libs are disgusting. They've never taken a history class, or read a history book.
Huh?
This is like noting the point when subsequent WWII combat deaths equalled Pearl Harbor. Was the war thereafter a failure?
Thanks. Kozak (post 18) makes a great point also.
U.S. casualties at Pearl Harbor: 2,403
U.S. casualties in WWII : 400,000
In WWII the ratio was almost 200 to 1.
Still, it is nice to see the A.P. admitting Iraq is part of the War on Terror, though I doubt that was their intent.
Perspective....or roughly half of the number of people who die of food poisoning in a typical year.
These body counting vultures in the MSM rub their hands in glee every time a "milestone" death occurs.
But, since Iraq has nothing to do with 9/11, why would they...oh, never mind.
MSNBC on-line is spouts more Liberal garbage than their little cable network.
I guess this holds some kind of meaning to the pothead, girlymen news forcasters. Time to cut 'n' run? We only fight until we lose the same number of people murdered on 09-11. Then we go home. I can't believe anyone is idiotic enough to vote for DemocRATS. You have to be a real, braindead moron.
Most of the deaths are, unfortunately, due to accidents and friendly fire episodes. Actual deaths from enemy combatants are likely a third of the overall total.
OTOH, on 9/11 the enemy death toll was 19, so they scored approx. 3000/19 or about 150:1 kill ratio.
They have not fared as well on the second 3000.
The war has been going on for five years. There is not a single living American captive in enemy hands. The moment they capture one of our guys, they start cutting parts off him until he is tortured to death. Then his body is dumped somewhere in the street.
The moment we capture one of their guys, he gets three religiously sensitive meals per day, a warm, comfortable bunk, a prayer mat, a sign pointing toward Mecca, and a copy of the Koran, carefully handled to preserve their religious sensitivities.
Yep, it makes me sick and enraged.., such as this barbarism: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1707038/posts
Well said Jack.
