I grew up in north Iowa. If you were not a Vikings fan, you were exiled to Wisconsin.
I heard they were casting John Elway in a movie about OJ Simpson. They needed a slow moving white Bronco.
Actually I was working w/ a Mexican guy who told me he was a Steeler fan. According to him football fans in Mexico are either Steeler or Cowboy fans. he said it was evenly split.
"They were a bunch of overpaid, steriod using, whiny, snivelling, snot-nosed punks."
Troy Aikman was on steroids and whiny?
Emmitt Smith played the Giants with a dislocated shoulder. Try that sometime and then talk whiny and snivelling.
Well, Aikman "prefers men" and was only successful because of the steriod-filled front line (and even then he wasn't all that good). Oh, and Emmitt is "Dancing with the Stars" these days. I also seem to recall that the owner, Jerry Jones(?), was so into himself that he thought that people would come to the stadium just to watch him.
I've always looked at ROAD ATTENDANCE as the only true way to judge Most popular Team.
Based on Attendance here are your winners:
#1 = Oakland Raiders (74,376 2005 avg. road attendance)
#2 = New England Patriots (73,356 2005 avg. road attendance)
#3 = NY Jest (72,840 205 avg. road attendance)
FYI...Pittsburgh ranks 15th
But I guess a poll of 1,100 people is a way to find out as well.
:-( Poor Cards. I do like them, my husband and I have season tickets to their games, and it's fun to cheer for them. Even when they lose. They do have some very loyal fans.
You'd have to look at it in terms of percentage of capacity, not just look at raw numbers.
If you play in a division with a bunch of big stadiums that are always sold out you get credit for ROAD ATTENDENCE whether any of your fans show up or not.
Merchandise sales is where the fans vote with their money.
SD
But I don't...
bad...... ;^)
Only in areas were folks run around dressed in their Dale Jr hat...and shirt...and pants...and wallet...and socks. Oh, and they have a Dale Jr clock in the dining room, and their fine china is officially licensed by the NFL or NASCAR.
When it comes to winning, they jumped the shark awhile back (and I do think Gruden/Callahan was a fluke, based more on what was happening in the division then on how good the team was).
That said, the raiders, always, always, do very well in name ID, and merchandise.
Should they? probably not.
However, the survey they are talking about in this article ranking favorite teams, is used by different sports leagues to identify which teams should get more of a marketing "push", and can generate the league (not necessarly the team) the most revenue through ratings, ticket sales, and merchandise, etc.
I am not sure about the limited life comment but to be honest with you I do not like the Cowboys....Since I will be moving to Dallas next year I may very well change my mind....after all, I now like the Patriots except when they play my Colts!!!!!!
