The Damascus-based Hamas leadership has agreed on principal to release kidnapped IDF soldier Cpl. Gilad Shalit in exchange for 1,000 Palestinian prisoners, according to a report that will be published in the Arab-Israeli newspaper A-Sinara on Friday in Nazareth.
The report, which was based on senior Arab and Palestinian sources, said Hamas would be willing to free Shalit, recognize Israel, and acknowledge previous agreements, on the condition that Israel agree to allow Hamas leaders from Damascus to come to the Gaza Strip, and release some 1,000 Palestinian security prisoners.
Israeli sources had yet to confirm the report.

Israel should say OK, if you want to make it 1000 for 1, here's the deal: turn him over now or we kill 1000 of you, starting with the top guys in your little terrorist organizations.
I'll go with this if Israel makes Shalit head of the IDF and lets him run the war against the terrorists who kidnapped him.
They should put wedlock collars on every one of them . Check out the movie Wedlock, The collars explode if removed or tampered with and can be blown by remote control if needed. The movie came out 15 years ago and the technology should be easy to make.

Idiots. I feel sorry for the soldier, but no soldier or any citizen is worth a 1000:1 trade. Not only is the trade not worth it, but it only establishes that these tactics work.

I'd love to see a reporter put it that way to those terrorist Hamas leaders in Damascus during a TV press conference.

Before running your blood pressure up, keep in mind that 1) Arab newspapers aren't the most reliable sources in the world, and 2) the story doesn't say that Israel has accepted.
Where is Shalit's family to object to this madness? If I were his father I would tell Olmert to KILL 1,000 Hamas prisoners instead.
