Political Climate Warms to Lieberman’s Favor
New York Times ^ | October 12, 2006 | Anne E. Kornblut and Jennifer Medina

Democrats here are convinced that Mr. Lieberman stands a good chance of returning to the Senate as an independent, and many have reassured him that he will not be stripped of his seniority if he wins, according to people in several Senate offices, who were granted anonymity to speak of the sensitive situation amid an intense political climate... Three debates, scheduled for Oct. 16, 19 and 23, will provide the Republican, Alan Schlesinger, his first real chance to speak to voters statewide. If Mr. Schlesinger draws even 15 percent of the vote, strategists said, that could be a critical advantage for Mr. Lamont. Connecticut pollsters and strategists working with all three candidates say that the race is far more volatile than the surveys indicate, with a variety of factors, including Mr. Schlesinger’s debate performances and the presence of three competitive Republicans on the ballot for House races, potentially influencing turnout in unpredictable ways... Some have publicly said Mr. Lieberman should be replaced at the top of the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee if the Democrats reclaim control. But several Senators, even some who are formally supporting Mr. Lamont, have privately told Mr. Lieberman they do not anticipate a movement to oust him, according to people in several Senate offices... "I think the conventional wisdom is wrong and that this is still a tight race," said Lanny J. Davis, a close friend of Mr. Lieberman’s who is advising the campaign. "But I do believe that Lamont has proven that a narrowly based ideological campaign in a primary has to transition into a broader electorate, and he has so far failed to do that. That’s the reason there’s a perception that Joe is safely ahead."

They treated him shabbily and I hope he remembers who all came out to support Lamont before the tide turned.

I'll vote for Joe, just so Nine-Nine-Ned (or Lone Issue Lamont) won't get elected.

Kerry also campaigned for Ahnold's challenger in CA, part of his campaign plan for 2008.

I am a Reagan rock hard conservative, but Liberman is one EX Democrat I would love to help regain his seat in Congress. He is a good honest man. He loves this country and knows what it takes to keep our Republic safe. The DIMS threw him under the bus, and anyone else in league with him.

I thought the Lieberman election was a referendum on the war on terror. I notice that the MSM has quietly dropped that from their talking points.

Alan Schlesinger

This guy is such a piece of shiite. Why did Joe agree to THREE debates with either of these putzes. He should just do one, and be done with the campaign. Schlesinger should compete with Bill Bennett on ESPN to see who can lose the most money playing blackjack in 24 hours.

We now have Alsharpton calling LIEberman a racist.

No low too low for the dems and their ugly cohorts.

That should have longer term benefit for the Pubbies, because of the fact that Sharpton will still be celebrated by the Dhimmicrats regardless of what he does.

The bathhouse denizens at the al Qaeda Tip Sheet just can't help but dream up scenarios where Lieberman loses. This may be the only time in this putrid rag's wretched history that they actually root for and support a Republican candidate for any office.
