Latest Polling: McClintock Up 4

by Brandon Powers - Los Angeles County 10-27-2006 5:00 pm

The results of Public Opinion Strategies’ latest tracking poll is in, and it has Lt. Governor nominee Tom McClintock up 4-points.

The survey, conducted over the last few nights with a sample of 800, has Tom up 39-35 with 15% undecided.

Further, of those who’ve already voted, Tom’s up even bigger: 43-35.

And despite attacks against him, Tom’s overall image rating remains in the neighborhood of 3:1, with his negatives still in the teens.

Last, of those left undecided, Tom’s image rating stands higher than Garamendi’s.

Going down to the wire, Tom stands in a great position to win.

Yes, that's another way to put it. Perhaps I should have said that the governor's RACE has long coattails. Arnold is leading by large numbers, because Angelides is such a jerk, and if people pull the lever at the top for Arnold some of them may not bother to split their tickets.

I still don't LIKE Arnold, but he's proven himself an expert at promising everyone a chicken in every pot and free beer on Saturdays, plus higher wages for everyone and no global warming within the California state lines.

Expensive, but many voters like it--until the state goes bankrupt.

My problem with it isn't just the bankruptcy, it's that because Arnold is a "Republican," Republicans will get the blame. It's a mechanic similar to what is happening in Congress now.

Oh, I don't disagree with you. We had a major window of opportunity when it was clear to the voters that Gray Davis was driving the state into bankruptcy and was nothing but a corrupt hack.

Bill Simon could have been elected if the leaders in Washington had supported him, and if Gerald Parsky whom they put in charge of the state party had given him any money. He came very close in spite of a lack of funding that might have allowed him to counter a vicious press and a vindictive judge.

Instead, they used unhappiness with Gray Davis to shoehorn Arnold into the governor's mansion. But there may be some hope if McClintock manages to ride his new position into the governorship next time around, assuming that the state hasn't collapsed before then.

That's too far out to predict what the economic situation will be, and we don't know who will be in the White House, either. But there's at least a little hope if McClintock manages to get his foot in the door.

There is no 'governor's mansion' and he's serving without salary.

I was just using that as a phrase for taking office, as you would say that a new president enters the White House. But perhaps another metaphor would be better in the circumstances.

I know what you meant.

Then why the impudent intervention? Both involved are California residents and are aware of the circumstances.

Was the motive for introducing facts not in evidence as transparent as it appeared? Many here would gladly pay the Austrian to leave if the Senator is successful in November.

Even now you want the governor defeated. You'd prefer Philth, why don't you admit it? I speculate you're going to be voting straight demoncrap.

You better watch your "6" for daning to critique anybody with an "R" behind their name around here! Expecially the Governor, or any other non-conservative "R" like Steve Poisoner, Brucie McPherson and some others who strongly support the platform challenged "New Majority" insurgency in the CAGOP!!!

You'll get bashed as an "ilk" or a "divider" or even worse, unless you repent and take passionate pride in the supposed spotless record of the greatest Governor in CA's history who can actually walk backward on water and wipe out conservatism in a single bound!!!

Don't git me wrong! I'm "tickled pink" that Tom's ahead in this one poll, but I'm afraid too many of his pseudo "new found friends" are puttin on too big of a show and dancin in the end-zone prematurely to put Tom's sincere, long-time supporters to sleep!!!

Did you notice that an old account, formerly so unpopular that it was tarred and feathered, paid us a rare visit last evening.

I couldn't believe it.

Yes, the big tent, Republican trolls are coming out of the woodwork with posies because a Republican candidate has a chance to win. At least they are dependable. They'll support a libertarian or a liberal or a conservative if the candidate is a registered Republican and has a realistic chance to win.

But woe be to the Republican who can't win. Their names are never mentioned. Mountjoy, and until recently McClintock, are typical examples.

Saw his TV ad last night. He is so un-phony. He's the real deal.

I wonder what clout he would have as Lt. Governor, though...

Hi, Mad Tom.

The Other Tom is head and shoulders above all others in office or in the political arena.

That was unwarranted.

Cool. Heard anything about the Insurance Commissioner or Sec. of State race? We've got an excellent chance at those too.

Uhh, as much as I liked Sunny, Mary is a real weirdo. Apparently, she's a scientologist, and she's also considerably more liberal then Sunny was.

In my opinion, while I'd support a rotting corpse over Boxer, the less we see of Mary outside her Congressional district, the better.
