SEATAC, Wash. The Christmas trees are going back up at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
Port of Seattle officials had ordered the trees taken down over the weekend after a local rabbi threatened a lawsuit if a menorah wasn't also displayed at the airport.
Airport officials say they took that action out of concern that if they allowed the addition of a menorah, they would also have to display symbols of other religions and cultures, which was not something airport workers had time for during the busiest travel season of the year.
Rabbi Elazar Bogomilsky says he never asked that the trees be taken down, and the threat of a lawsuit was withdrawn.
With the threat of the lawsuit gone, airport spokesman Bob Parker says all 14 trees will go back up -- hopefully by tomorrow morning.

Atheists don't need an ornament. Their religion is represented by the empty space between the trees.
Well, these are White Gaelic Protestants, but it looks like somebody wants to see, ugly or not:
It sure has been interesting how the Rabbi has been back tracking and trying to blame the whole thing on the Sea-Tac authorities.
They also want us to secularize the holiday as "Winter Holiday" or with "Season's Greetings". There is no logic to support such, see http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/1752559/posts?page=8
To take Christ out of Christmas leaves a hole that suggests something was there. That vestige necessarily points to its religious origins as a symbol. The ACLU doesn't want to carry out their "separationist" logic to this degree as the total elimination would create an uproar politically and economically. But there is no basis for the holiday without Christ.
Re your post 177 .
Thank You for your post.
As a Jew who was born and raised in America and having been raised by USAF USAA heroes I never knew what anti semitic really meant until I read all of the posts on this thread.
There are many many many positive posts, yet the anti semites crawled out on this one.
As for me, my Hebrew is very limited so I guess I will have to say it in English. The language used in my native country.
To all of you FReepers (even the non FReepers)
Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year.
Yikes!
I doubt even Merck has a drug that can erase that memory from the kids mind... scarred for life! So sad!
:-)
Do you have an example of this occurring? The secularists have spent the past 40 years actively driving all Christian symbols out of the public arena. I do not recall any Jewish groups fighting to allow us to keep our crosses and our nativity scenes. I'm sure some did, but the silence from all sides during this time has been deafening.
Now this Rabbi feigns surprise and contrition when he attempts to force his religious symbol and ceremony onto public property, knowing full well no Christian group would be granted the same privilege.
Forgive us for being skeptical, we've seen this b.s. every year for the past several decades. I supose the irony of his congregation having supported democrats almost near monolithically during this time is lost upon the good Rabbi.
No prob. I forgive. If Christian holidays fall, yours do, too. By the way, the Menorah is a beautiful story. I really enjoy the feasts. The significance of the feasts to Christians is truly powerful. They point to so much in the New Testament. One cannot understand the New Testament without a thorough understanding of the Old Testament. When St. Paul said that we are "grafted in the vine", he was indicating that we are brothers/sisters. As "a Pharisee's Pharisee", schooled under Gamiliel, I think he understood this well. Forgiveness is only a problem for those who are ignorant. Jesus looked upon those crucifying Him and said, "Father, forgive them as they know not what they do."
Same place.
Who said it was "false, but accurate"? Read all the news reports. Focus only on the statements by people actually involved (the rabbi, the people making the decisions). The dialog provided is an accurate rendition of the events as they were reported and known.
Nothing then. There is nothing wrong with putting a manger scene in the airport. I've seen all sorts of things that represent cultures and heritages other than my own. The Manger is a symbol of the christian heritage that founded our country, and there is nothing other than an overzealous and misguided supreme court that says it is somehow evil and must be banished from the public square.
A person has to be pretty pathetic to be offended or outraged or challenged by a stable with plastic parents, a child, some animals and a couple of rich guys with gifts.
The ACLU is an evil organization and must be stopped.
Calling the Rabbi every kind of name with the accompanying anti Semitism prevalent on FreeRepublic for the last several days is acceptable.
My post WHICH BROKE NO FREEREPUBLIC POSTING RULE WHAT SO EVER is removed.
Jews and those who are friends should take notice.
I can't believe someone in this thread was so weak that they had to report you for "abuse". It's sad, but it's why we can't put a manger anywhere, there's a lot of "victims" around, and some of them apparently are conservative "victims".
I haven't been following the story too closely...but is it possible that the Rabbi is not even a US citizen? Since it's an airport, it might be possible this guy just visits the states? This might make his ability to civilly sue more difficult? Actually, is the airport even public..If its private, how why the heck should the establishment clause fit in to all of this?
This has not been our finest hour. :(
I'm pretty sure he's a citizen. He lives and works in Seattle. He has a radio program. I wondered if he did it for publicity.
Oh..thanks:)
Grafted in... sounds Hellenistic. That is... anyone truly grafted in, would reject the Baalim.
Just because someone doesn't agree with this ahole rabbi does NOT make one anti-sematic. That card like the race card is OVERPLAYED way too much on this thread.
I support Israel but I do NOT support this pissant rabbi.
