Wounded Iraq Vet Threatened, Spat on by 'Antiwar' Protesters (D.C. Chapter Report on 1/27/07)
Sunday, January 28, 2007 | Kristinn

Posted on 01/28/2007 5:37:22 PM PST by kristinn

I'm angry. I'm angry at the 'antiwar' protesters who heaped abuse on our troops. And I'm angry at the people who couldn't be bothered to stand up for our troops yesterday.

Tens of thousands of anti-American leftists and their dupes marched on our nation's capital calling for America's defeat in the war on terror in Iraq.

Only about forty people could be bothered to turn out in support of America's victory in Iraq. Among those forty was a civilian POW held by the North Vietnamese communists and several Iraq war veterans--including wounded warriors who left the hospital to stand up for their brothers in arms on the home front.

Why did former POW Mike Benge and Iraq vet Joshua Sparling only find a few dozen people willing to stand with them? Why, as the anti-American left is heading toward repeating their victory in Vietnam, are so many people sitting on their asses and doing nothing to stop them?

Why, when Joshua Sparling was spat on, cursed at and threatened by 'peace marchers', were there so few people there to defend his honor?

Why was Jane Fonda allowed to desecrate the Navy Memorial and only face token opposition?

Why did Mike Benge see thousands more people showing up to cheer Jane Fonda than there were to denounce her?

Those who were there to support these patriots will be posting their observations and photos on this thread. I've said my piece.

First, thank you for all that you do.
Thanks to the DC chapter for all they do.

BUT, I certainly hope that you are directing your remarks to those that are within travelling distance of DC.
Moonbats either don't have jobs or don't care whether they keep them or not.
I do.

I would love to live closer and be able to give my support the same way you folks do.
My job won't allow it.

I understand that you were , and probably still are, angry but you're painting with a broad brush that, I think, you grabbed by accident in the heat of the moment.

I'm glad to hve been there to support our troops and their efforts to defeat the terrorists who would take away teh freedom of all of us, including those lunatic maniacs who were screeching about how evil the troops are.

Are the Commis using the Islamofascists, ar ethe Islamofascists using the Commies, or is it both?

The venomous tone of these lefites never ceases to amaze me, especailly since they're the ones who always lecture teh rest of us about "hate speech."

Yet they have signs like "Bush=Hitler", "9/11 Was An Inside Job", and other hateful, seditioous slogans and acts.

I'm tired of these haters desecrating everything about my country that they can. I think it may be time to dust off the Sedition Acts and use them. I'd also throw RICO at Code Pink, United For Peace and Justice, ANSWER, and the rest of the organizers. They are deliberately undemining our war effort and our country. They would deny you and me our freedom just as eagerly as bin Laden would.

Ah, more actions from the 1960's edition of the peacenik playbook.

Right down to the "Make Love, Not War" signs. Geez, you'd think they could at least get some new slogans!

We want to be clear what pissed of the DC Chapter.

1. The people who live in the area and never show up.

2. The statements this time about, "Let have a rally just for support". We have had them already and posted it.

3. The people who criticizes what we do and never can out. We have Freepers coming from all over the country. They all tell us it was one of their greatest times they ever had.

This is what we hate.

Now what we don't mind is:

1. Useful suggestions, money, a yearly visit (or two).

Keyboard Freepers who never show up or do any thing but post need not have an negative comments! They will be met with disdain.

In the video you can see a man wearing a baseball jersey debating the moonbats. His name escapes me, but he is an Iraqi combat veteran. He's written a book called "182 days in Iraq". He is well spoken and brought a lot of energy to our small rally.

I heard numerous protestors ask him "if you love the war, why dont you enlist". Most of the time he would turn to the crowd and let them read his jersey which read "IraqVeteran". Most protestors would turn and walk away, but many would shout at him that he is blind and cant see the truth. I saw and heard a lot of sick things on Saturday. Many of which were directed to him, Josh, and the other veterans in our group.

I tend to agree but just want to be clear that not all FReepers can make the trip to DC twice, or even once, a year.
I also tend to agree with kristin that not enough FReepers get out to the FReeps.

However, there are things that FReepers do in their own area that never get the same type of press, even FR press, that the DC chapter gets.
I'm not saying that the DC chapter are press fanatics, they communicate better than some other areas and, seem to, have more opportunities to have successful FReeps.

I'm an ardent admirer of the DC chapter simply because they DO go out and "walk the walk".
Just want to be clear about who, and what, kristin is bringing to task.

The man in the jersey is Phil Kiver. If you get a chance to pick up his book "182 days in Iraq" do so. He was an inspiration to talk to and is very involved in conservative politics.

To all that went:

I'm sorry I can't make it to these rallies. I always want to be there, but we are out here in Arizona, and I just can't get there. At hubby's next EAS date, we will be doing out best to get back east. Even if I could fly out there, my time is unfortunately being taken up preparing to send my husband to war again.

Our days are filled with the usual pre-deployment questions--"Where do you want to be buried and in what" "Will the Marine Corps send me home to Boston for your funeral" What do I say to the kids if you don't come home?" "How will I live without you". I can't fit anymore in there right now. I feel so sorry for these soldiers that get treated so poorly. These are my worst fears. I can't imagine how I would react if it were my husband.

I write this today because I don't know where else to put it. There is so much inside of me right now, and I have nowhere to put it. I just came back from the doctor to recheck my wrist, and I broke down. I have always been a good military wife. I have sent my husband to war before, and I have always kept it together. But this is different this time. He has no support here anymore. He has no support from his own government. He has no support from the media that he would defend with his life. He is willling to leave us, knowing full well he may not come back, and he does it for these people. And they DON'T CARE. And I don't think I can take it anymore. These people think that they are supporting the troops by doing these marches and by making their speeches, but they AREN'T. They make it worse. They make it worse because now, not only do these soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines have to leave, they have to leave knowing their families will be bombarded with this left-wing bu*&*^%* day after day after day. They will have to worry that their wives will be so overwhelmed by the idea of their husband being left behind as a pawn in a political game that she may not make it. They have to be worried that someone is going to call their them killers in front of their children and they will have to come home to a child that will fear him.

I have never, EVER had such an issue with a deployment before. But I am so afraid he will be left over there, undersupported, and he will die, all because Pelosi and her ilk are afraid of offending someone. Well she offends me. These moonbat morons pretend to be so smart, and they pretend they have our best interests at heart, but they don't even bother to stop and see the absolute and utter DAMAGE they are doing. They don't want anyone to question their patriotism, but dammit, how patriotic can you be if you are causing military families this much pain????

I thank you for those representatives that do show up on our behalf to these marches. Please accept my undying gratitude. And I swear, when I can, I will be joining you.

\/\/ayne's great too. I wait to read his AAR's from Tucson.

It is indeed a great honor hear such praise from the acknowledged Master of Free Republic Protesting.

I understand how frustrating it is when people don't show up, and I also understand how hard it is to show up. I can only make about one or two protests a month, and it was hard to get out the first time. I've been to a few FReeps but no time to make a report! I also lost my camera but found it yesterday, thank the Lord.

But I don't think negativity is going to help. We need to look more at how good we are at encouraging people and rallying patriotic Americans.

We need fresh ideas and things FReepers can do even if they can't make the rally or protest. For instance, a FReeper who can't make the rally could put flyers up at places like veterans organizations and conservative areas of town encouraging people to attend the counter-protest or rally.

They could also make banners and posters at home.

Non attending FReppers could also send emails to blogs, Republican clubs and activist websites.

They could have handouts or leaflets made up at a printers!

In other words, if a FReeper can't come to a protest, FReepmail someone who does and volunteer to help.

And let's all work together and strategize how we can improve the number of people who do stand for freedom with a sign or flag - with a positive attitude and patriotic message to the people.

Thank you JOYJOY. I always bring the kids to Pro-troop events. A while ago I took them to a counter protest of NJ Peace Action . My kids saw for themselves how vicious these peaceniks are. Anyway I have only the deepest respect for all of you constantly being out there and confronting the loonies. I will do what I can as often as possible...you can count on that. God Bless all of you who showed to do the dirty work.
