Middle-Eastern men buying phones in Jackson, MS
Vanity | 2/1/07 | struggle

Posted on 02/01/2007 1:06:07 PM PST by struggle

One of the students mentioned to her friend that there were bunches of Middle-Eastern guys buying phones in the Radio Shack at Metrocenter, Jackson, MS.

About 13 men or so bought the tracphones and her clerk friend also said that many of them came in buying phones in the afternoon as well.

I contacted the FBI in Jackson already.

Real threats in Mississippi? Ok then.

So what does the FBI in Mississippi do then? Sit around and eat doughnuts all day? I'm sure there are real threats to public safety the FBI has to deal with in Mississippi that would be neglected to deal with silly stuff like cell phone purchasers. Are there not many casinos in Mississippi? Does the Mafia operate in that state? The KKK? Criminal gangs? I'm sure the FBI has more important things to do in Mississippi than investigate cell phone purchasers.

So in 21st Century Republican America, anyone engaging in capitalism to make money should be suspect of providing support to terrorism? Sheesh!

Not just anyone. People who resemble people who killed 3,000 of us in less than an hour. If that's profiling, tough.

Other Freepers please chime in here, but you seem hell-bent on absolving them of any wrong doing.

Well, to be found guilty of any wrong doing a person has to actually do something wrong. So what did they do wrong that was illegal?

>That's because reselling the phones here in the US gets you only about a $20 profit per phone, but reselling it overseas will get you over $100 profit per phone. Most people with connections to places to re-sell them overseas are recent immigrants who have a connection to a family business back in the old country where these phones can be used. And the place where these phones can be re-sold in street markets is mostly in India, the Middle East, and parts of Asia.

That's funny, maybe if Mississippi had any Asians, this would make sense.

>If you are really concerned about terrorism, then you should want the FBI to be persuing real leads and not diverting agents off onto a wild goose chase every time someone buys more than one cell phone at a time.

Again, tell that to James Woods.

This will be my final comment on this thread. I am severely glad that you are not in charge of investigating potential threats, because you seem to put much faith in your ability to magically determine which are worthy, and which are not. Thank God, they are more logical and rational than you. Or we would be doomed.

Overseas where? Iraq, Iran to detonate IED's?

You do understand, my friend, that this is merely your assessment, and not facts.

Sorry, it is a fact. Can you give me an example of where anyone making multiple purchases of cell phones here in the US has been found guilty of any terrorist-related activity because of that purchase? Several people last year were arrested in a fit of hysteria, but no one was convicted of anything.

Are these friends of yours buying the phones?

No dude, I simply read the news and know what's going on. Try it sometime. Free Republic is a great place to start. Click on the links.

As a New Yorker who knows something about terrorist scares, I support your decision to call the FBI. Don't let these jerks discourage you, ok?

A lot go to India. And no, not to detonate IEDs. There are a hundred ways to detonate IEDs. Anyone want to use a cell phone for that would not need to import hundreds from the US.

Besides, you are concerned about cell phones going to Iran, but are not concerned that F-14 parts are?

Yes, thank God the FBI will put this report of "OMG, multiple cell phone purchases!" in the trash where it belongs.

It's good to be vigilant, especially a few days before a large event, such as the SUPER BOWL.

They're probably all West Coasters, and obviously didn't lose anyone on 9-11.

I lost a cousin, a heroic firefighter who was trying to free people from an elevator in one of the towers, just as it collapsed.

He was 34 years old. He left a wife and two little sons.

You are right. These naysayers are jerks. Wait until it happens to someone they love.

James Woods has never reported someone making multiple cell phone purchases to the FBI.
