A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Awwww! I saw on the weather report that it's snowing 'up there'. We're supposed to have warm sunny 70+ degree weather today. Wish I could send some sunshine your way. But here's some sweet things to help take your mind off snow.
And it's good to see you again!

3-D Under The Sea
READ:
Job 41:1-11God created . . . every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded. Genesis 1:21
My wife and I went to see a large-screen 3-D documentary on life in the sea. We put on plastic eyeglasses that created a 3-dimensional effect and then marveled as one surprise after another jumped out at us from the screen.
Predatory sharks swam dangerously close to us. Giant turtles tumbled and swirled so close we felt we could reach out and touch them. One exotic sea creature dangled what looked like a lure in front of its mouth to attract smaller fish. The narrator marveled that the life-forms that produce coral reefs inexplicably spawn on only one night out of the whole year. Their offspring then catch currents that carry them to other parts of the ocean.
As I sat there, I thought, How can anyone think all of this happened by chance? The fingerprints of a Designer are on every sea creature weve seen! As Christians we know that time and random chance could never result in such perfectly designed sea creatures. Instead, we accept the witness of Gods Word that "God created . . . every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded" (Gen. 1:21).
The more we learn about life in our world, the more we recognize Gods eternal power and worship Him as Lord of creation (Rom. 1:20).
The greatness of our God is seen
In sky and sea and forest green;
And living creatures great and small
Reveal the God who made them all. D. De Haan
All creation sings Gods praise.

Purty pictures!!!
It was sunny and in the 60s this past Saturday, and my husband was able to get my pea patch tilled up, but then the bottom dropped out of the temps and I haven't been able to get them in the ground yet. Hopefully this Saturday!!!
I'm really itching to get into the garden.

Weather Underground Forecast for Wednesday, March 07, 2007 [by Shaun Tanner]. Precipitation will once again not be in the nation's weather headline Wednesday.
Light snow will indeed move through the eastern Great Lakes, southern New England, and the Mid-Atlantic before exiting into the Atlantic Ocean. Accumulatios will be quite minimal throughout the region as the hardest hit locations will only receive a few inches of the white stuff.
The biggest story in the East will be the intensely cold air that will remain entrenched from the Upper Modwest right through the Northeast. This cold air will greatly dampen daytime high temperatures once again as many locations will only rise into the single digits and teens. Other areas slightly farther to the south will rise into the 20s and 30s. The Upper Midwest will rise into the 20s and 30s as well.
The Southeast will see temperatures in the 60s and 70s.
A Pacific cold front will push inland across the West Coast states before gradually weakening as it approaches the Great Basin and Intermountain West. This will mean a quick shot of rain and high elevation snow is likely through the Northwest and southward through the northern half of Northern California. The Northwest will rise into the 40s and 50s, while California will see temperatures in the 60s, 70s, and some 80s.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of -30 degrees at Raco, Mich. to a high of 90 degrees at Santa Ana, Calif.
Addendum: Snow in Anchorage, Alaska, 6 to 12 inches.
Honolulu: Mostly sunny in the morning...then mostly cloudy with isolated showers in the afternoon. Highs 71 to 81.
Texas: Highs from high 60s to mid 70s.

La Enchiladita, my dear, do you know just what kind of a can of worms you will be openning if I do as you ask and "Tell all"!!!!!!!!?????
The first planting of the pea patch is going to be 3 rows at 30feet each. 1 row of snow peas and 2 of "regular" peas. The same with the 2nd planting. Then the same amount of string beans. 1 row regular green beans, 1 of yellow wax, and 1 of "asparagus" beans (the really long ones). Not sure about a 2nd planting on those, we'll see. After those beans, then the lima beans start going in. Then leaf veggies, lettuce and spinach, before it gets hot.
Once all of those go in, then the serious garden starts going in. Peppers (25 varieties of hot, 10 sweet) tomatoes (so far I have 6 varieties, that number will go up), eggplant (4 varieies), squash (summer and winter), watermelon, cantelope, tomatillos (3 varieties), cucumbers, radishes, ........hmm, what else...oh yeah, 4 varieties of corn (2 sweets and 2 popping).
In between all of that I have to get the herbs going as well, but hubby hasn't yet figured out where he's going to dig up space for that for me....he figured he better add to the space after I told him a minimum of 200 each of basil, parsley and cilantro........
Remember........I warned you :)!!!!
PS - glad to see your comment that you are feeling better :)

#1 - Don't I know it!!!
#2 - Don't be, see above!
#3 - Yes, I'm planning to have a roadside stand
#4 - See #2
#5 - I love white corn, alas so do the deer :(
I forgot to mention the 100 strawberry plants and 12 raspberry bushes I put in last year.
Besides planning on selling the fresh veggies and herbs, I make jelly from the peppers. I made 12 jars of Habanero jelly on Sunday and I have enough left in the freezer to make 36 more (3 batches). Yesterday I made orange marmalade and today I made blueberry jam, I have enough blueberries (from the freezer) for 3 more batches.
We found a pick your own orchard for blueberries, plums, pears, and apples. In season, bluberries are 75 cents a pound....when they are $4 a pint in the supermarket, it's a no-brainer to pick our own. Late last summer, before school started a friend and I took our 3 kids and spent a couple hours there. For about $15 I got 10pounds of blueberries, and we had apples, pears, and plums, and the 3 girls had an absolute blast....including the 2year old!
Talk about cheap entertainment. And HEALTHY entertainment to boot. I honestly thought the 2 8 year olds would be sick by the time we got home, between them they ate 5 pounds of pears, just in the car. I have no idea how many blueberries they ate while picking, only the 2 year old had the telltale signs of how much she ate :)

Berry picking is heaven! I recall oh so long ago when I lived in San Francisco. We, a bunch of us, would drive inland to the countryside late summer and pick blackberries growing wild on the roadside fences. We also found an awesome plum orchard on a friend's land... best plums I ever saw or ate. We loaded up on those and took what we couldn't use to a local park festival to give away.
I still have a photo of myself--- about 5 yrs old --- on an outing to a pick-your-own cherries orchard. That was in a place here in SoCal called Beaumont. Don't know if that still goes on.
Yeah, and you do get sick... I sure do, after eating too much fresh fruit.... LoLoL.

That's such a neat picture, Dolly - have you been there? Isn't it something Alaska built them a safe place to cross like that. I always feel sad whenever I see a deer or other animal lying dead on the highway. In the Texas Hill Country, motorists have to be extremely careful, especially at night, because there are so many deer along the highway.

Oh how fun that sounds!!!!
The first time I ever picked blueberries was the summer before last, when we found this orchard. I was still on crutches from breaking my ankle and was basically sitting on the bed of the pickup while hubby and child were having all the fun. After about 30 minutes of listening to their laughter from somewhere I couldn't see, I decided to go see what all the fun was about. These are long established blueberry bushes and stand about 6feet tall, trying to balance on the crutches and pick berries just wasn't cutting it, so I decided I was just going to sit on the ground and watch. Well, well.......it seems nobody bothered with the berries on the lower branches. I was in heaven!!!!

Oh, I absolutely believe animals can tell time! Ours knows exactly when it's time for lunch, for an afternoon walk, for dinner, and for an evening walk, and one last potty break before bedtime.
Of course, it could be because they know the routine! LOL!

Warm Fuzzy Wednesday Poetry
Shy

Mother is feeling kind of tired today
So I'll have to be quiet while I roam around and play
Gliding down Halls that seem a little less wide than before
As my paws brush silently over the thick carpet on the Floor
I marvel at just how Big everything still is compared to me
While I sneak into each Room to check on our Human Family
For truth be told, I'm a little scared when Mother is not around
When out of her sight, I'm hesitant to indulge in running leaps and bounds
So I focus on things that are large and way beyond my grasp
Like trying to charge up the Stairs without a pause or gasp
I can now leap up three Steps where last week it was one or two
Though I have to stop and catch my breath, Mother was thrilled with the news
And told me that I would be able conquer more Things easily as the weeks go by
Like climbing to the tops of the Curtains and Book Case way up high
Which is not too shabby for a Kitten so demure and shy
Who likes to learn by playing while our Humans are busy and out of sight
Which means I'll be having lots of fun while the House is quiet through the night!

Adorable as usual, Cat Man!
Shy kittens are the ones I like the best...if they also like to cuddle. :D
