That's a mighty big chip on your shoulder there pard. Don't let it get in the way of your front sight when you squeeze (not pull) the trigger. Then again you're counting on your wife and kids to have your back if there's trouble.... And you think people from Connecticut are pu$$ies?

'Course you do have the AG Pretty well nailed.

CT law....if you grab your gun & give chase (no matter what the perp did) YOU then become the threat in the eyes of the law and are subject to arrest

About what I would expect from CT. Criminals in liberal states have more rights than their victims.

Then the pols in those states have the gall to say that guns in the hands of law abiding people are the reason the crime rate is so high. Maybe the real reason is that criminals in those states don't have anything to fear from their unarmed victims, and the few who are allowed to have guns as a privilege are afraid to use them in defense of themselves or their property because they will be prosecuted if they do.

yeah, I thought they were pussies..... now I'm sure of it....

yeah, I guess I would depend on my son and daughters to "have my back"... cover it as well.

I didn't realize that you weren't supposed to defend your family...silly me.

That's why I've trained the kids to shoot since they were mature enough to realize that they could kill something. that's what hunting, skeet shooting and target practice is for.

Each one matured differently and the three oldest can be depended on to not put their finger on the trigger unless they're gonna fire. Never point a gun at anything they weren't sure they were going to shoot and kill. and never assume that any gun is ever empty.

wife was somewhat hesitant to learn about weapons till somebody tried to get in the front door while I was at work and the cops took about 20 minutes to get to the house.

I think our dog scared him/her away since it was 3 a.m. and a German Shepard sounds nasty from the other side of the door.

we only had one kid at the time, but it scared her enough to realize that if somebody had gotten in the house, the pistol she had in her hand from our drawer would have been useless unless she learned how to operate the safety and clear a gun if it jams.

I guess I'm just glad that we both have the freedom to choose self defense or not. I chose to teach my family how to use a pistol, shotgun and rifle to defend themselves. You are free to call 9-11. Neat, huh?

here in Connecticut, you basically have no right to protect yourself, even if the bad guys come into your house.

I think that's the kind of thing that should be advertised here in Pennsylvania and other northeastern states: "Burglars, thugs, and armed robbers - - head on up to beautiful, rich Connecticut for some easy pickings."

Thanks, Connecticut.

Your line of thought is OK, just remember, sometimes people are confused and might be in some kind of mental state that they think they are where they are not. In other words be sure the person is a danger before you do something to defend yourself. Ie. what if it's the paper boy who just got hit on the head and does not know where he is.

Grow a skin and stop hurling insults will you? Glad your wife was OK. We had a similar experience here about 15 years ago and have been shooting together ever since. Why do you think your experiences and attitude about self defense are so unique?

Back to the article, I still maintain that the guy was wrong to give chase with a pistol. More likely than not he got into trouble because he caused a stir, and the cops couldn't let it go even if they wanted to. Not saying they did though, they could just as easily been self righteous tinhorns.

paper boy hit on head.... that's part of knowing what you're shooting at. You are right about "accidental" shootings. I remember a couple of years ago a man shot a Japanese exchange student dressed like a ninja in his garage during Halloween.

Danger means forcing your way into our house, getting past the dog and going down the hallways... shouted warning and then pray and make the best decision.

I think IPSC for pistols and skeet are a good way to train for this kind of thing. My kids love it and it's a lot more interesting to shoot a swaying, spinning and moving target. Ammo ain't cheap but it an activity that we can do 1 or 2 times per month. The boy loves it and the girls have confidence that comes from mastering a martial art.

nah..... I made a conscious decision about 8 years ago to stop being politic about issues that I feel strongly about with those that took what I feel a liberal argument.

Gun Control, taxes etc.... I just pretty much get in and let you know what I think and feel...

My skin is plenty thick just like yours.

We don't know anything except the fact that the cops have incarcerated and/or charged an old man that defended himself and chased the bad guys.

"this is the decision....would you rather be alive in jail or dead. Put in that perspective, you use deadly force only to protect your life."

Here in VA I was told as much by a LEO. He said it's always better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6. With regard to home intrusion, each and every single cop I've ever spoken to has told me that if an intruder is in your home you are within your right to use deadly force. It's my feeling any time an intruder is in my home, my family's lives are in danger and the intruder will be treated accordingly. Most cops have also told me that if I have to use deadly force to make sure it is deadly, shoot to kill. People who survive make very unfavorable witnesses and tend to file lawsuits.

It does read as if what the cop is saying is that once the thief makes it out the door with the goods....they are home free. This C__P REALLY has to end.

I agree completely!

The knowledge that store workers and homeowmers are powerless to stop thieves only emboldens the thieves.

That's pretty much true. He's at least free from getting plugged by the store owner.

CT law thinks that once they leave the property, the threat is gone.

Let me tell you guys something. you shouldnt be carrying a hand gun for protection if you dont understand your states laws and your rights. The law says you may not chase after someone who has committed a crime,(like stealing) yes it might be your property but todays society says life is more important than inanimate objects that can be replaced. That store owner/manager became the aggressor and the bigger threat. The local police and staties dont want people running around shooting at each other because YES accidents can happen were innocents could and have been injured and killed. They want the police who are trained and incontrol to handle the the threat. If the police dont ever find the bad guy and nobody gets hurt thats a plus. Sucks but thats the big picture. I think ive covered everything i wanted to.

The posters on this website are very familiar with the gun laws in their respective states and are also aware of their second amendment rights.
