Please remember our service men and women serving our country standing in harms way so we may have the freedom to enjoy every day in peace. Remember and send prayers also to those in the military hospital around the country and to the combat medics who were able to save them with their own bravery and duty to country.
God Bless

If you'd like ON or Off the Nascar at FR racing threads&stuff Ping List, let me know via Private Reply. Thanks!

This is not a High Volume Ping List and is intended primarily to alert folks of the posting of the weekly Nascar qualifying and race threads.

Occasional sports or military or prayers Pings using the list may also be sent as situation or subject dictates.

Profanities, flame wars and belligerence in observing common sense rules and family decency standards on the thread may result in serious sanctions so be nice. :-)

Todd Berrier on the COT.

Q: How’s the Car of Tomorrow going to play at Darlington this weekend?

Berrier: How’s the COT going to play at Darlington? I really think, at the end of a fuel run, you’ll be able to go out there and run faster in a rental car. I’m being perfectly honest with you.

I think it’s going to be miserably slow. But, I don’t honestly know. I think the race at Phoenix, where we were at another mile place; I think it was rather boring from my perspective.

Then I watched the Busch race at Richmond [last] Friday night and I thought it was rather good. I’m hoping the same thing plays out for [the Car of Tomorrow] — the thing is just so top-heavy and the center of gravity is so high.

There’s nothing about it that you would build, intentionally that way to go to Darlington and run fast — or anyplace else, for that matter. Darlington is just going to be way worse because the tires fall off so much.

I feel like it’s going to be miserable — miserably ugly. But I might be 100 percent wrong.

PING TO Darlington Race thread........

Because of the track’s unwieldy shape, Darlington Raceway has been considered one of the most difficult tracks to drive. Winning at Darlington means that you possess exceptional skills behind the wheel. The track has been nicknamed ‘The Lady In Black’, and dubbed the track ‘Too Tough To Tame’.

“You never forget your first love,” seven-time Cup Champion Dale Earnhardt once said, “whether it’s a high school sweetheart, a faithful old hunting dog, or a fickle racetrack in South Carolina with a contrary disposition. And, if you happen to be a race car driver there’s no victory so sweet, so memorable, as whipping Darlington Raceway.”

Seems some are worried that Hendrick Motor Sports is 'winning too much'... Wonder how HELTON thinks? Would Nascar complain about the NYYankees winning several World Series in a row???

We all thought BRISTOL’s first COT encounter was going to be a wreckfest, but the cars handled so horribly that it was hard to get ‘racey’ with them.

I suspect the same thing this weekend???

They may still handle horribly, but Darlington is a handling track, and that wall is closer than ever because the COT is wider than the current-generation cars.

My thoughts are that Hendrick has tested many, many, many more times than every one else. That is a fact and the other teams can only blame themselves. I blame Teresa for not putting the money into this effort, DEI has practiced very little........if I remember correctly they didn’t even have a finished car until December for crying out loud.

Like this........

“”They say that Hendrick’s have almost 100 days of testing in the COT car ... we’ve spent nine days testing,” Biffle said.”

” Earnhardt, mired in contract talks with struggling Dale Earnhardt Inc., had a twinge of jealousy in his voice while explaining that Hendrick has used several different test drivers this season to gather data. Max Papis, David Green and 17-year-old development driver Landon Cassill have all logged considerable hours with the Chevrolet Impala for Hendrick.”

They’ve got a lot of resources. They’ve got a great company, two, three really good cars every week, great crew chiefs. They’ve really got the package right now,” Earnhardt said. “Their cars, they handle pretty good. They’re getting through the center of the corner better with the COT, and that’s just because they test the hell out of it.

“I hear rumors they got Max Papis and road race guys at Sonoma testing and testing and testing and testing.” [that’s true]

Asked if DEI could keep up, Earnhardt didn’t pause.

“No. Not many teams can do that,” he said. “There are a few that can do that, but not many. They put a lot back into their race teams, you know what I mean?” [yes Jr we know what you mean $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$]

Did you see the special tires they put on it to get it to fit in the hauler?

Not directly. Don't think Roush has that problem because of how they configured their haulers (or at least that's what Robot said last week).

Well, I am really looking forward to this weekend. I love 'The Lady In Black'! A buddy and I went there in '01. What a great place. On another note, here's a link to pics of me at 'Dega last Sunday for the Petty Ride-Along Experience. Words connot fully describe what it was like. The turns were like a centrifuge. Three laps made me all wobbly when I climbed out ...... I can't imagine what 500 miles is like!! I asked my driver, Shaun, how fast we'd hit. He said, "Oh, about a buck-68 to 70." I said, "LET'S GO!!" Our car, the #19 Sadler Dodge, followed the other Ride-Along car, the #8 Bud car. I was really glad I was in the second car, as I was able to sense what the draft feels like when he'd pull behind him. Down the backstretch, they were weaving back and forth like they were blocking and trying to pass. They also took turns heading up to the wall in the turns. I could almost reach out and touch the fence in turns 3 and 4. The G-forces were WAY more than I expected. In turn 2 on the last lap, Shaun rode the rim, then turned hard left and headed down the hill of the turn like a classic old slingshot. I could hear the motor winding up!! I fully recommend all of you to at least do the Ride-Along at a track near you. Check out the schedule at the Petty Experience site.

I live just a few miles from Michigan international speedway. My neighbor’s brother in law is a former ARCA and occasional Busch series driver (Bill Ebersole). Ebersole is the president of the Track Time driving school at MIS but I’ve never done it.

Outstanding! Great pic there... I probably wouldn’t sleep for a day from the adrenaline rush from that. You of course asked Shaun if you could give er a spin, eh?

And, you did stop at Dreamland-BBQ for ribs afterwards, right?
