Whew. The pictures of the veterans always get to me. Those brave, brave men and women who are now weak and aged—we owe them such a debt. Thank you for posting those.

What great pictures! Thank you, JAN. I love the one of GWB listening in to hear here—what a cute look on his face. I would love to have heard what she was saying! :) She really looks amazing. I was going to ask Snugs this—does she always wear gloves?
It may be a fruit cake. I think those are the ones that are made and stored until later.

In case Snugs doesn’t get a chance to answer, I suspect she made a fruit cake for her birthday, and then stored it to let it....what’s the word? Whatever, she stores fruit cake to let the flavor come through. (I’m just guessing here because Snugs has done that for Christmas.)
Exactly! Hang on...I think I’ve got the pic ready to post from NASA.
That's what she said.
I love that she has different traditions for birthdays. We just go to Albertsons for a cake...with ooey-gooey icing! LOL!

I’m finished now! LOL! Whew!!!
I'm just trying to picture these regular American GIs, as far from royalty as you can get, and wonder what's going thru their minds as they meet the Queen of England! That she went thru WWII herself and understands their sacrifices must make it all the more exciting and meaningful for them. Amazing.
President Bush and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II Exchange Toasts
HER MAJESTY QUEEN ELIZABETH II: Mr. President, I wondered whether I should start this toast saying, “When I was here in 1776” — (laughter and applause.)
Mr. President, it is a real pleasure to welcome you and Mrs. Bush here this evening. Over our six days in the United States, we have much enjoyed the chance to dwell on the history of the relationship between our two countries, as well as celebrating its present strength and vitality. I would like to thank everyone for the warmth and kindness extended to us.
I would also like to take this opportunity, on the day that has seen the formal transfer of power to the devolved Northern Ireland government, to thank you and your predecessors for your contribution to bringing peace to Northern Ireland.
May I ask everyone to rise and drink a toast to President and Mrs. Bush, to the future of our two countries, and the enduring friendship between Britain and the United States.
Mr. President.
(A toast is offered.)
PRESIDENT BUSH: Your Majesty, I can’t top that one. (Laughter.)

LOL! The dogwood was planted to commemorate her visit.
I like any tie that is not blue! ;*)
Glad you enjoyed them!
It is always a pleasure to post pics of our vets. Glad you liked them.
According to Jitendra Joshi the Queen also said this:
“Ours is a partnership always to be reckoned with in the defense of freedom and the spread of prosperity,” the queen said in a toast to Bush at the ultra-formal state dinner, the first white-tie event of this presidency.
“Disagree from time to time we may, but united we must always remain,” she added, in perhaps a nod to the bitter public opposition in Britain to Bush’s decision to invade Iraq with the backing of Prime Minister Tony Blair.
Sooooo, who is lying? The White House or Jitendra Joshi of AFP???
DITTO that!
I was going to ask Snugs thisdoes she always wear gloves?
Snugs, what say you?
Late again but want to thank you for the treasure house of pix/commentary. You really did a LOT of work & I join the others in giving you deep appreciation
